Transferring SleepyHead to Another Computer
Re: Installing Sleepyhead on Win 10
Couple of wild ass thoughts....why can't we just move a copy of SH 0.2 over to Windows 10..and it's corresponding MyDocuments folder. Or would that be too much work?
Then also just do 9.8.1 separately....and keep both SH programs on both computers. The old one for reference if the new one doesn't pull in the old data (which mine didn't but then I didn't make any effort to get it there)?

Re: Installing Sleepyhead on Win 10
Yes, that might work as well. I've also been thinking that my original instruction made things too hard. I don't see any reason, now, to go through the rigmarole of fooling around with the SleepyHead Data-test folder in the first step as I originally proposed.Pugsy wrote:Couple of wild ass thoughts....
I think just to copy the folder from the old computer and paste it in the new computer document file then download SH to the new computer should work.
So the steps would be:
1. back up the current SHDT Folder.
2.Copy and paste the current SHDT folder to the new computer
3.Download and install the same SH version to the new computer - Done! Just like an upgrade.
Which is kind of like what you are proposing, Pugsy. Or in rereading you post is almost exactly what you are proposing
So Rosie, I think the first thing you should do now is see if you can get SH working properly on the old computer.
Probably by restoring it to 9.2, then we'll figure out what to do next.
Edit: A tested method of transferring SleepyHead from one computer to another.
This test was done using SleepyHead 9.8 From a Win 10 Machine to a Vista machine.
1. Copy the SleepyHeaddata testing File from Documents on the first Computer to Documents on the second computer.
2. Copy the Sleepyhead Program files from the first computer to any location on the second computer.
3. Run the SleepyHead Program by clicking on the executable in the program folder
- a. the first run may require Running as System Administrator
b. the first run may not find the data file and ask to create one, Say yes.

Re: Installing Sleepyhead on Win 10
Jay...yeah, that's what I was proposing but at the time I wasn't aware that Rosie was still using an older SH version. I was just talking about 9.8-1. Pretty simple...replace blank SH MyDocuments folder with the copy from the old computer.
I am not sure how to get the older (pre 9.8-1) merged into the latest version though.
When did SH start doing automatic backups for the S9? Wonder if one could copy the back up folder for the older version and use it to import to the new version to get the older data?
So would involved 2 steps...1 being the copy/past of the MyDoc folder and 2 being an import directed to backup files.
I will play with doing that on my current computer with my current SH that doesn't have older data...see if I can get anything older than March 2014.....if I still have that older backup file from the older SH version.

Re: Installing Sleepyhead on Win 10
Pugsy, all my data came forward when I upgraded from 9.6 to 9.8, but I've only been using SH Since June of last year when I got my S9. Sometime between June of 2014 and now, I upgraded to 9.8 and all the data is there. I don't think anybody has lost data by upgrading from one version of SH to the next. She should be able to go from 9.2 to 9.6 to 9.8 if she has to. However, she might be able to go right from 9.2 to 9.8 on the same computer. I think she tried that but wasn't able to because the name of the SHDT folder had been changed.

Re: Installing Sleepyhead on Win 10
Okay....I had some success pulling old data from older SH versions into the latest version. Not total success but I think that may be from also using different machines and having different profiles and some SH versions no longer being in MyDocuments.
What I would do in if I was in Rosie's situation.
This is to be done on the old non Windows 10 computer.
First I would go to MyDocuments 9.2 version folder and see if there is a back up folder in there for her ResScan data. It's under profiles/serial number folder.
If it is there we will use it to bring the old data to the new SH 9.8-1 version. If it isn't...we are screwed.
Then I would make sure that I have the new SH 0.9.8-1 testing version installed and working properly on the old computer with the data that is on the SD card at this time...just use it normally.
Once it is confirmed that version is working and you have current data....do another import but instead of letting SH find the SD card direct it to the ResMed back up folder that is in the older SH 9.2 (or whatever) version that was just located.
So then the new SH version should also have the data from the older SH version in it if it imported by the backup folder.
Confirm by looking back at the calendar.
Once the new version of SH has everything we want on it....then make a copy of the entire SH app folder (found in MyDocuments) for the 9.8-1 version and put it in the MyDocuments folder on the Windows 10 computer.
Since that copy also contains Profiles...no need to create any new profiles in SH on the Win 10 computer.
So....install latest SH on old computer...use and make sure it works...then import to it from the old backup folder from SH 9.2....once SH 9.8-1 testing has everything we want in it....then copy the entire folder for it found in MyDocuments and place it in MyDocuments on the Win 10 computer.
If SH is already on the Win 10 computer...and profiles already made...I would remove that entire folder and replace it with the now current copy from the old computer. Otherwise SH will get confused by duplicate profiles and duplicate folders.
Or simply install SH 0.9.8-1 after putting that MyDocuments folder copy from the old computer onto new Win 10.

Mine didn't but then I was also testing 9.7 and some variations of it and I knew I was going to be changing it often so I didn't bother trying to bring the old data forward.Jay Aitchsee wrote:Pugsy, all my data came forward when I upgraded from 9.6 to 9.8,
I would try the steps above ...going directly from 9.2 to 0.9.8-1 testing in one big jump if it were me.
If there is a resmed backup in the 9.2 version...it should work.
It would be the simplest/easiest I would think. Trying to manually upgrade through all those versions is not something I want to try to explain how to do and some of the versions aren't upgradable anyway.

Agree, get 9.2 working and then attempt upgrade to 9.8
I understand what you're saying about back-up, but the back up is relatively new isn't it? How did people go from 9.2 to 9.6? Didn't they just download and install the new version? All her data is there now, it seems she should be able to just install 9.8 over the top of 9.2, maybe having to use the "rebuild CPAP" function. Or is that a function of later SH versions that uses the "backup" file? But, if she gets 9.8 running she should be able to point it to her data folder and "import", maybe?

I thought 9.2 was already working on the non Win 10 computer? Did I miss something?Jay Aitchsee wrote:Agree, get 9.2 working and then attempt upgrade to 9.8
My thoughts were to get 0.9.8-1 up and running on the non Win 10 computer...import the backup from 9.2 to complete the data in 9.8-1 on the non Win 10 computer...then make 1 move to 9.8-1 from the working version on non Win 10 to Win 10 computer.
I don't have 9.2 I had already upgraded it to 0.9.3-1 so I don't know what's in 9.2...that's my only concern.
If it has a back up folder...it will work. I just got done bringing more old data into my 9.8-1 version.
The only problem I am having is my old S9 VPAP data...the non Adapt VPAP. For some reason that backup folder isn't wanting to import...it keeps locking up SH.
I don't have any of my old PR S1 data either and I don't have copies of those files I don't think but I will keep looking. I am not the cleanest housekeeper when it comes to copies of crap.
At any rate I now have data back to Jan 2013 when I started using the Adapt.

Re: Installing Sleepyhead on Win 10
Honestly, I don't know. I was a little confused about the status of things. That was why I suggested she do a little house cleaning and start fresh. I think she attempted to download 9.8 onto the old computer but she had changed the name of SleepyHeadData folder so it didn't find it. I suggested she change the name back and try to start sleepyhead again, which would essentially be an upgrade to 9.8 like we've been talking about. That might still work, but I edited that post and told her to jump down here. I also told her to make a safe copy of her current SHDT folder, which hopefully, she's done.Pugsy wrote:I thought 9.2 was already working on the non Win 10 computer? Did I miss something?
Yes, we agree, update the old computer, then move on to the new one, but we need to hear from Rosie to find out what state her files are in.

Re: Installing Sleepyhead on Win 10
there's a really handy program, called 'teamviewer' that people can use, to do remote desktop support, it's free for personal use, and supports multiplatform.
I've used it with jedimark when we were working on the oximeter import on the latest SH, pretty handy letting someone in australia control my machine in the US, much faster than trying to pass "do this... what did it do" "uh, well, i don't see that, what should it say" things back and forth for hours.
Rosie could run teamviewer on her end, and provide the id and password it gives her to another person(s) who could then see her screen, and help her out. there is a chat built in, but being on the phone at the same time helps even more.
teamviewer runs on windows/mac/linux, and maybe more.

Re: Installing Sleepyhead on Win 10
Thanks PR, that does look handy.
OK, I've done a little research and it looks like SH versions thru 9.6 could be installed on top of 9.2 or serially upgraded. However, with 9.8 Mark said, "If you're on an earlier version, and want to upgrade, it's best to try going through 0.9.6 first. If 0.9.6 doesn't work for you, all I can say is good luck, and I hope it works for you! If not, you will need to create a new profile." and "There are absolutely no guarantees that upgrades will work from versions earlier than 0.9.6... If it fails, please don't bother filing bug reports about this.. I'm sorry, but in the interest of moving forward and keeping SleepyHead maintainable, I'm not interested in solving those problems."
viewtopic/t101108/SleepyHead-0981-Testing-Builds.html
viewtopic/t89808/sleepyhead-93-update.html#p824873
So, Rosie, you can try going to 9.8 on the old machine. If that doesn't work, you can try 9.6 and then 9.8, or you can start fresh on the new machine with 9.8 and leave the old one with 9.2. When you upgrade the old machine to W10, it will keep what ever version of SH is on it.
To upgrade from one SH version to the next, back up your SleepyHeaddata-test file. Leave it in place in your document folder, then download, extract, and run the new version.
J
P.S. Rosie, how about changing the title of this thread to something like "Transferring SleepyHead to Another Computer". It really doesn't have much to do with Windows 10.

Re: Transferring SleepyHead to Another Computer
Hi Y'all
Thanks Palerider, Jay, Pugsy, WOW this should be very challenging for you computer gurus adding some excitement and fun things to do I'm very fortunate you like that kind of challenge
Some clarfications;
- I only changed SH name on the old computer after having tried to install 32, 62, Open and Broken versions 9.8 without success.
- The data folder name is SleepyHeadData for 9.2 version and SleepyHeadData- Testing for 9.8. I changed the name adding Testing, it didn't work, I tried to use it without adding anything, same results.
- I installed SH 9.8 in the new computer, I read the SD memory card (now rejected by my machine snif snif snif) and I have the data for my last machine Rosie S9 only because I can't read the data coming from 9.2. If it finish I can't read the really older data in my new computer and I need to let the rest on the old, I will live with it. What happens is that I can't accept defeat coming from a computer
I will try now to install 9.8 in the old, if that doesn't work I will try to find 9.6 and do plan B (installation on steps)
I let you know what happened soon, I'm working on that.
Thanks again
Rosie
EDIT: all my files are OK, I saved them with another name on my Documents. Each time it takes a long time because I have 4.5G of data.

Re: Transferring SleepyHead to Another Computer
Hi Rosie,
Good to hear from you! Yes, this is exciting! I didn't know there had been a name change in the SleepyHeadData file. That little tidbit might help someone else someday. Though, I'm pretty sure it was SleepyHeadData-Testing in 9.6, but I'd have to go back and look to make sure.
I hear you about being beat by a computer! I think eventually, we would win. But, it may not be worth the effort. I'm glad you got the new computer working, though.
I looked for 9.6 on the web but I couldn't find it. I'm sure we can come up with a copy someplace.
Keep us updated on your progress.
J
If 9.8 won't install on top of 9.2, you might try installing 9.8 as a stand alone on the old computer. Isolate the existing 9.2 by a name change or putting it a folder of it's own. If 9.8 installs as a stand alone, then you might try pointing to your existing data file with the "import" function of 9.8. Don't know if it would work, but it might.

can you offer some more detail on the fails? maybe we can help fix that.rosacer wrote:Downloaded 9.8 64bit, tried Broken and Open=fail

but, like Jay says, you likely need to get 096 and use that to upgrade the data.
this SHOULD (I hope) be a good link to the 096 version:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/sleepyh ... p/download
then upgrade to 098-1.
