LOL -- he kept insisting the Trilogy didn't have AVAPS mode, so therefore I had to be lying about using AVAPS and even about being on the Trilogy. -SWS came to my rescue and posted the documentation proving the Trilogy has AVAPS (which I know because I use it!).

He never would admit he was wrong. And he was pretty ugly to me, but he and I made a truce. So if SWA IS him and he's doing this, he's taking shots again which is very disappointing.

I've been thinking of that for awhile but didn't want to bring up a sore subject again. Is there any way to trace that?

Carolyn could see if it's the same IP address.

I have trouble remembering who wrote what, so I can't compare SWA's presentation to Calist's. I thought Calist came in trying to educate, though, and his MO was to insult everyone as not as intelligent/knowledgeable as he was. I can't remember what SWA wrote before, but my general impression is that his thinking (as evidenced by his writing at least) is pretty disorganized and recommendations don't seem to have much impact. I don't have the impression that he's here TO cause trouble, rather, that he's seriously troubled. But, admittedly, I could be forgetting a big chunk of important information about things he's posted in the past.

I think tolerance is low on this forum for those who don't have pretty good resources to learn, adapt, motivate themselves, etc. This is no place for people of low intelligence or for the mentally ill. Just sayin'.

Sorry, Mollete. But this comment from SU has really been gnawing at me.

Are we really intolerant as SU suggests? I have been thinking about this, on and off, since I read it last night. A typical human response to SU's suggestion would be to say we're not, excusing and justifying all we say, but that's not who I am. I have to ask myself if she's right.

My thought is we need to be intelligent and informed; just to counteract the ignorance promoted by "the system".
Since we have separate threads for technical issues, we have some hope to not drive away the average "non-techie".
When we are visited by individuals who are 100% negative, and neither heed nor try advice,
THAT is the element most likely to put off newbies from the help they can get here.

SWA has been around since 2011. He/she has a pattern of asking medical questions that get more and more bizarre and more demanding of medical detail. He/she will often stalk responders in PMs, asking for answers to more and more bizarre questions and becoming more and more demanding that members help him or her with advice which is way outside the parameters of this forum.

Whether or not SWA's claimed medical issues are legit, every time he/she surfaces the welcome is quickly worn out. If you go above to do a member search you can read nearly 400 posts and see the pattern. Clearly SWA enjoys some sick attention. I usually avoid posting on any thread SWA posts on--I've had to ask that Johnny intervene to stop SWA's inappropriate pms in the past. As far as I'm concerned, SWA is a known troll and best not fed.

While I commend you on worrying about our "intolerance", I know of several example where we worked quite patiently with various patients that just did not "get it" and needed to learn patience. They've managed to find benefit from various tools. What we collectively are intolerant of is the troll like response of the original poster. No only does it cause disruptions, it also causes confusion. That's when I typically step into the mix .. when the responses of SWA might cause others to derail their own course of medical therapy (and it has caused that type of confusion in the past).

I had never heard the term "troll" before I came to this forum. I still don't really know what it means, other than it's used to dismiss someone annoying. OK, I'm going to look it up. Here's a definition from Urban Dictionary:
One who posts a deliberately provocative message to a newsgroup or message board with the intention of causing maximum disruption and argument
I highlighted certain parts in red, which seem pretty critical to the meaning. Assuming I understand the definition, someone whose purpose is not necessarily to cause disruption and argument, but who nevertheless causes it, would not be a troll, right? So if they aren't a troll, what kinds of people have a pattern of causing these kinds of issues? And if the pattern were one of inadvertently knocking things over in stores due to walking/limping with a cane, we would be a lot more accepting of that, wouldn't we? Hence my point:

And this doesn't even touch on the impatience for those who don't quickly develop a positive, take-action attitude toward CPAP use, and who might spend more than a passing minute grieving over this diagnosis.

That does it for me.

Before he/she deletes this remark, I am saving it by quoting it.

Between all the bizarre posts here and under the same name on another apnea board, e.g. getting apnea "from worms" I say this is a young (17 when signing up and choosing name) bored troll, perversely entertaining him/herself at the expense of the rest of us.

Sick? yeah.

17 when first appearing? yeah.

with apnea? I no longer believe it.

Whatever this person's problems are, and there are apparently many, this is one very sad human being who needs a lot of professional help. None of us here can offer the kind of help this person needs. Let's wish this person well and move on.
