Sounds like the Rabbi started on the keg already.DoriC wrote:"I get up. I walk. I fall down. Meanwhile, I keep dancing” from Rabbi Hillel
I agree with you. As I've already said, some people have bigger problems than will be fixed with an attitudinal shift and a focus on helping others. That's amazing when someone can turn adversity into something good that benefits others (and through them, no doubt, themselves), but there are some problems that are beyond this. Every person who has the resources to make an attitudinal shift and help others despite their own issues should be thankful that they at least have that. Some people don't. And it's not necessarily their fault.RogerSC wrote:a lot of people are in circumstances (for whatever reason) where they are trapped or just feel trapped, and can't get out or move on without help of some sort. To tell someone that may be temporarily off center a notch or two that they're getting what they deserve is really not helpful, and just adds to their pain. Help them move forward, or be silent, that's my opinion (obviously). Maybe you just can't help that person...for example, if they're not in a place where they can accept help or don't want to hear what you have to say. But, again, to tell them that what they're experiencing is what they deserve doesn't serve anyone's needs.
I'm sure from what I see here that most people disagree with me, I understand that, but felt like I needed to say it.

I guess you've never tried any One-Eyed Jamaican.SleepingUgly wrote:Your happiness set-point is pretty well determined, and there are things you can do to raise or lower it, but not markedly.
Very interesting SU. My mother was definitely not a "power of positive thinking" type of woman and I definitely take after her which I don't see as a bad thing by the way.By the way, even among those who are not mentally ill, there's research that indicates that how much of a glass empty/glass full person someone is has more to do with their wiring than anything that person did to earn it. Your happiness set-point is pretty well determined, and there are things you can do to raise or lower it, but not markedly.

The only thing that research indicates is that one can use research to indicate just about anything you want it to indicate.SleepingUgly wrote:...there's research that indicates...

Sorry Madalot, I wasn't clear with my previous post. I agree that what SWA17 has done on the forum is unacceptable behavior and should not be tolerated.Madalot wrote:As much as I feel for SWA17, if the situation is legitimate which I am truthfully on the fence over.....
Regardless of a person's situation, personal illness & struggles, they cannot be given a pass and bad behaviors excused because of their issues. Sick or not, nobody here deserves to be cussed out and have a death wish thrown at them with the "F" word. Sick or not, SWA17 needs to held accountable for that completely inappropriate behavior.
We are becoming a society that wants to find reasons to excuse people's behaviors and not hold them accountable.

"IMHO", I think it's irrelevant at this point. I mean, he's stuck in own little Box of Hate. Isn't that sufficient?49er wrote:I agree that what SWA17 has done on the forum is unacceptable behavior and should not be tolerated.
No worries. I get that too. And to the degree each of us feels the way we do, I'm willing to agree to disagree.49er wrote:Sorry Madalot, I wasn't clear with my previous post. I agree that what SWA17 has done on the forum is unacceptable behavior and should not be tolerated.
But it just seems to me that certain people were piling on with their comments which I felt was not helpful. Just my opinion which I realize will not be popular.
