OT: Time out and/or Duke it out thread
Re: OT: Time out and/or Duke it out thread
Hello, Gang! Long time, no see.....
Since I'm on the Trilogy, I feel really removed from the regular CPAP posts and needs. Plus the nastiness of some on this forum just irks me so I don't bother. I do stop by from time to time, skimming to see if there's anything going on that I CAN contribute to. And because it was from Pugsy, I began reading this thread. Pugsy, you are a good egg and I love that you started this thread.
I already know that I am wasting my breath (fingers???) with what I'm about to say and that 90% of the people here will ignore it. That's what human beings do these days. Sad, but true. The other 10% already do this and that's why I have so much respect for them. But as I suppose I'm feeling especially stupid and futile this morning, I'll say it anyway...lol
Every single poster needs to evaluate their own behavior. They need to take a step back and ask themselves if **THEY** are behaving in a manner that they are proud of. Would they want someone else responding to them in the manner that they just responded to someone else?
The entire concept of "Do unto others...." seems to be lost on people today.
Have I ever responded in a way that I'm not proud of? Of course, but like the 10%, I'll admit it and apologize and do better next time.
I came in a few weeks ago and a thread sparked my interest. A few posts in, a veteran on this forum posted "You're a moron!" No preamble or anything -- just "You're a moron!" There's NO EXCUSE for this type of behavior. And I simply cannot wrap my mind around why any human being would be so vile or ugly to another. Again, there's NO EXCUSE for it. I left as fast as I came.
So, while I know I'm wasting my breath (fingers), I've said it. And while I know that those 10% aren't going to change, I 1000000% support Pugsy's efforts to bring it here. Spew your nastiness here and leave helping threads alone. It's the right thing to do. And any, single poster that chooses to ignore this and continue to be nasty in helping threads - is showing that they are mean, nasty, hateful people. And I can only hope that Karma catches up with them eventually.
Hope everybody has a pleasant Sunday.

49er - are you suggesting I called someone a dunderhead? Never ever happened and I challenge you to show the post where you think it did!
I thought you were a friend, but I guess have decided to join the bullies... nothing like safety in numbers eh?

You totally missed my point.
If you are going to complain that people are bullying you, I feel you have an obligation to stand up when others are also being bullied. I gave the example of the person who was being called a dunderhead. I did not say you have called the person that.
Hmm, you have decided I am a bully because of this misunderstanding? Ok

Ok, a misunderstanding... so you are not a bully, but wrote your previous note... why?
You know it strikes me how absurd this all is... don't know about you (collectively) but I'm way too old for this crap, which is why I said I was leaving. If relative newbies are allowed to trash things here because that's who they are, but others are bullied by them and apparently not 'allowed' to fight back, then I guess Johhny's values aren't what I thought after all. Who needs this for heaven's sake... I don't.

Hmm, why wouldn't I write it here since I was responding to your post which was written in the same place? What am I missing?Julie wrote:Ok, a misunderstanding... so you are not a bully, but wrote your previous note here... why?

You're missing the note you posted in the thread "Are these sleep apnea symptoms?" where you found it necessary to repeat a note that I had chosen to delete when responding to one of PEF's... and I came back to you and said "Thank you so much 49er for your gratuitous support of that ignorant poster. This is my final forum appearance. Bye all." because I couldn't fathom why you'd brought her nasty one back... it wasn't your fight and even if you'd disagreed with my reaction to hers, I was surprised you'd found it necessary to resurrent it. It plainly felt like you'd taken her side in things.
Re: OT: Time out and/or Duke it out thread
OK, I am grateful to Sonnyboy for posting the Goodman's policy on deleting the post of others that are not spam. Their policy forbids it and from what pugsy said, I am able to contact Carolyn.
So here is what I have decided to do about my deleted posts. I will give Julie one more chance to stop doing this to me. I know she has done it to others in the past also because I have seen at least one post by someone else complaining about it. I prefer to settle disagreements among ourselves and not bother the Goodman's with petty grievances. They are so generous to supply us with this board and they don't need a lot of aggravation.
However, if it happens again, I will contact the Goodmans.

Re: OT: Time out and/or Duke it out thread
And what will you concede to? For the last time, I asked you not to quote my notes in ones you felt it necessary to not just disagree with the issue, the medical points, etc., but trash me as a person, my intelligence, education, whatever (and my medical background goes back 40 yrs, not based on who I was married to). I can also write Carolyn about your totally uncalled for vicious attitude. You may feel hard done by because I deleted a note of yours, but if you'd been civilized and stuck to the 'agree to disagree' on the issue like an adult instead of how you behaved, there wouldn't have been any problem. I argue points with others all the time, but if the price of staying here is that you get to trash me with impunity no matter what, then the price is too high.
Re: OT: Time out and/or Duke it out thread
Julie, with all due respect, when a post is deleted which is against forum rules, it is my fight. And all I did was resurrect it without commenting on what you or she had said.Julie wrote:You're missing the note you posted in the thread "Are these sleep apnea symptoms?" where you found it necessary to repeat a note that I had chosen to delete when responding to one of PEF's... and I came back to you and said "Thank you so much 49er for your gratuitous support of that ignorant poster. Re: OT: Time out and/or Duke it out thread
With all due respect Julie, I don't believe what you are saying about me is completely true. I was just looking over my old posts and I am not seeing where I have quoted you and attacked you. In fact it was only a week or so ago when I learned to use the "quote" function and I am still not good at it. But I did see many instances of you getting nasty over the opinions of others. So this issue is not just about me.
You seem to have difficulty distinguishing between what is your own problem and what is the problem of someone else. Our own behavior and emotional upset is always about US and not someone else. If I am bothered by what you say to me, than that is my problem to deal with. Since, in the beginning, your treatment of me was insulting, harsh and unfair, I knew I had to do something to avoid conflict with you. So I put you on my foe list so that I could not read your posts and be moved to write angry replies that I would regret later, not to mention embarrass myself. I am never proud of myself for getting into conflict with others. Likewise, your emotional upset regarding my posts is your problem to deal with. I really don't know what it is about me that so upsets you, but I am not deliberately provoking you. But when you started deleting my posts, you really crossed the line. Why don't you just put me on your foe list?
I am really sorry if what I say upsets or offends you, but you need to deal with this without dictating to me acceptable content of my posts. It seems lately anything I say sends you into an uncontrollable spasm of anger. Only you know what this is all about. Do I remind you of someone you hated? Believe it or not, I am actually concerned about you and I will do anything I can to help you solve the problem.
I stated in my earlier post that I wanted you to stop deleting my posts.

talk about driving off a new OP that need help with nonsense
Thanks for posting this very recent example of Avi's tendency to "answer" a question by posting something that is both irrelevant and at least somewhat misleading.
Telling someone with question about ramp to switch to straight CPAP mode is just plain silly. For all we know the unregistered newbie is using a Resmed S9 CPAP Escape or Resmed S9 CPAP Pro since all he says about his machine is "Resmed S9." Avi's post is both unhelpful and unwelcoming since it implies the OP is doing something "wrong" by using the ramp.

You responding to what I said about the spam button?Julie wrote:So therefore it becomes OK for someone to be personally attacked, bullied, humiliated, etc. (vs having the 'issue' facts debated) but they must not be allowed to defend any of it - not that it is either defensible or really doable) but have post after post sit there 'in public' where they are made to look like fools or worse though they may have done nothing but correct (on a medical basis) someone else's post (without attacking the OP)? Just wanna make sure I'm reading this right...
(It would really help out if you could learn to use the quote button in situations like this)
If you are responding about what I said...yes, essentially it becomes ok for someone to bully, attack, or spew shitty information and yes..mention your name...when it comes to the spam button use.
Not my rules but Johnny's rules.
He's pretty specific about it.
Just because we don't like what is said ...whether it's true or not...isn't a reason for using the spam button.
If it was then we wouldn't be having all this discussion about hijacking a helping thread with a fist fight...we would just remove all the offenders comments and go on our merry way.
PEF has the very same rights as you do..which are to post her opinion and yeah she has every right to mention your name. Whether you or I or the rest of the world agrees with her or not doesn't really matter....according to Johnny's rules. She or anyone disagreeing with you or anyone has the right to voice the disagreement and have their post stand and not be subject to the spam removal button use just because someone doesn't like what was said.
Doesn't matter...those are Johnny's rules..he's made them fairly plain and simple.
The spam button is for spam...real spam and not because someone says something about us that we don't like...and not because someone is wrong (or right for that matter)..and not because someone is being a jerk/bully/asshole.
Those are Johnny's rules...this is his sandbox and if we want to play in it then we must abide by his rules.
The ONLY exception to this is real profanity and not just a few four letter words interjected here and there. I think most of us recognize the difference.
If removing something just because it's ugly or uncalled for or wrong was a good reason for using the spam button I wouldn't need this thread...I just would remove the pissing contests that have derailed the thread. I sure as hell don't like them and I don't think most of us want to see them.
But just because I don't like something no matter how right or wrong it is...isn't justification for spam removing something that isn't real spam.
Johnny's rules and since I want to play in his sandbox I will abide by his rules.
If you don't like his rules and don't want to abide by them or feel your rules are better...maybe going to find another sandbox to play would be in order because your rules don't supercede his rules.

Chunkyfrog, chunkyfrog wrote:And in a thread about hose hangers, avi posts a link about Israeli statehood.
But not a link to a hose hanger!
I have to differ with you about your opinion of Avi's post on this tread. He clearly includes a picture of the hose hanger he uses and the picture of the hose hanger, along with information about buying it from Amazon is the core part of his post. Avi's post is at viewtopic/t114205/Which-hose-hanger-sho ... l#p1105264
At the end of his post Avi does make a comment based on the OP's location as Independence, MO. The link avi provides is to a specific exhibit in the Harry S Truman Presidential library which is located in Independence, MO. And so Avi's comment is, in my opinion, a introductory chat/question designed to welcome the OP to the forum. In other words, it comes across to me as a "Hey, I noticed that you are from <X>. Did you know there's something neat at <X>?" In other words, it's the equivalent to the kind of statement someone might make seeing my avatar of the frozen Niagara Falls and then commenting at the end of a post about a visit they made to the Falls at some point in their life.
Moreover, the specific exhibit in the link is a memo to President Truman from one of his aids concerning the question of the establishment of a Jewish state in the Middle East. The aid does not actually go as far as advocating recognizing Israel (yet), but does speak to the complexity of the issue, given what was still the recent revelations of the horrors of the Holocaust. It's an interesting piece of American history, and I don't think Avi's including this link as the *last* part of his post was intended to derail the thread. And in fact the thread has not been hijacked by this comment.

Re: OT: Time out and/or Duke it out thread
PEF - you said
"I am really sorry if what I say upsets or offends you, but you need to deal with this without dictating to me acceptable content of my posts".
You seem unable to accept that when a post is made with medical info. in it, very often to newbies, and the content is just medically wrong, someone should take issue with it, disagree with the content, but NOT turn and trash the person who disagreed. If you're so thin skinned that you can't abide someone calling you out when you're wrong in content, you shouldn't be on a forum at all, certainly not one where newbies take medical info at face value. If you can't tell the difference between honest disagreement and nasty behaviour, you shouldn't be here either. I won't delete anything if you stick to facts (ask PR about those ) but if you continue to be nasty I won't just take it... or your silly psychobabble about me. I'm so tired of all this and am quite willing to start over but only if you agree to be rational as well.
It's not wrong to be mistaken about info/content, but wrong to attack the disagreeing poster rather than the mistake. Lashing out is childish, not useful.

I did not delete his post, but felt that a link to the actual subject would have been more helpful.
Since he had the ability to link, an odd choice, except, I suppose, for a social choice.
