Thanks for the understanding comments. I was really surprised that a few people were offended by my problems with the cpap.

Insomnia is a difficult problem. Most days, I am unable to focus at work, which is difficult, since I am an accountant. I have had a car accident. Last week, I fell down a flight of stairs. I know it is because I am sleep deprived and very, very tired.

Sleep drugs can kill you? So can falling asleep at the wheel.

No ambien, no sleep.

It was extremely frustrating to go through the trouble and expense of a sleep study, purchasing a cpap machine, only to discover that it won't help me, I gotta pay for it, and I can't return it.

I feel rather intelligence-deprived to be in this situation. Usually I research things better than this.

But now, I gotta pop over Craig's list to seeif I can unload this thing. Next week, I am going to look for a doctor who will prescribe ambien.

I checked ebay and craig's list. People buy and sell cpaps. I can unload this thing and get most of my money back. I guess my biggest complaint is that after realizing that the machine doesn't work for me, I could not return it. My insurance had already paid out and I have to make a copayment.
Your insurance has probably paid the first month of rental. You don't own it for another 13 months.

You need to use this machine. Your posts have demonstrated extreme sleep deprivation.

You could, you know, simply walk back in to the DME and ASK them to demonstrate it again. That is their job. Oh and don't overdose on drugs would be helpful too.

I took ambien for several years, and slept very well with it. My doctor will no longer prescribe it because the fda has cracked down on it. Actually, there have been several serious crimes committed by people under the influenceof ambien. Also, it has been used as a date rape drug. It is very, very powerful.

I am nearly immune to the otc sleep aids. I usually do take several every night, as I wake up several times every night and can't get back to sleep. And I gotta go to work in the morning.

They hardly affect me anymore.

I begged my doctor for more ambien. Instead, he tested me for sleep apnea. Results show I got it bad.

But this cpap thing is not going to work. If anybody is interested, I got a scarcely used, demonic, snake-hissing cpap for sale. The supply store will not take it back.
It's not the FDA cracking down on Ambien, it's your Dr cracking down on you. Ambien when used as directed is a safe drug and is prescribed regularly, but understandably, your Dr must have some misgivings about prescribing it for you. You have a severe sleep disorder which will eventually cause you many health problems and worse unless you start taking this treatment seriously. Start reading here and ask questions about your equipment and you'll get yourself on the right track. If you're a troll, it won't be the first time we've been fooled!

Could you have a best friend sign up for this forum ? They could send us your obituary soon and it would be a good learning example for our forum . You have the perfect recipe to take your self out by your behavior -excessive drugs , failure to follow your doctors best advice , not recognizing a potential fatal diagnosis, and rejection of best therapy . We have small children on cpap and old folks too. They all know it takes work to get better. Is this the best you can do? If you introduce alcohol in this formula it would be even quicker.
I would tell my children this same thing if they were in your shoes. You need some good advice from your friends and family, bring them in on this before you quit.

You REALLY, REALLY, REALLY need to keep at it till you get it working. Giving up is NOT an option.

It can take weeks to months to get everything tweaked. Some people need to try different masks before they find the right one for them. Some people need to start with a different pressure than what they were prescribed.

Many, many people have come to this forum with the same frame of mind that you have right now.......and we've been able to get them going with their therapy.

Thank you Bill, but you'll find many more caring people than me right here on this forum and I'm sure you're one of them!

Queen of Darkness,

For what it is worth, I am still unable to stay asleep on the machine for a significant amount of time after several months. And to be honest, if I had my druthers, I would quit yesterday. But then there is reality such as my body telling me that I need to find a way to make this work.

What I am saying is I understand your frustrations but it sounds like your body is also giving you the same message. Please don't give up and do what you can to make therapy work.

If you don't want to do pap therapy, you might give dental devices a try. But do something.

Queen of Darkness,

Some more thoughts.

Are you leading a purpose full life right now? I know I am not with my pap therapy issues and it frustrates the heck out of me to the point of being extremely depressing. There is much I want to do and I can't. But that is what is motivating me not to quit.

I suggest you think of how your sleep issues are interfering in your life and use that as motivation to either make pap therapy work or find acceptable alternatives. Please do not give up.

I would rather be fooled than to throw a false accusation at someone. Of course, if someone is trying to scam you, that attitude won't work as well for obvious reasons but this person isn't in that category.

It is unlikely that insomnia is your root problem. Your root problem is sleep apnea which causes bad damage which makes it difficult to sleep.

Even if there were a sleep aid that would make you sleep, you would still have the same huge problems because your breathing is dysfunctional when you fall asleep.

You seem determined not to use CPAP. In this (deadly) case, adopt tactics to prevent backsleeping. Sleeping exclusively on your sides and stomach may somewhat relieve sleep apnea.

I agree,so rather than "accuse", I asked the OP to read and ask questions and get on the right track. I did voice some misgivings because of the "unusual" way the OP presented herself. I would love to eventually see her become one of our success stories.

Sorry Dori, in rereading what I wrote, I can see how that didn't come out the way I intended as I meant that as a general statement rather than in response to what you wrote. I shouldn't have quoted you. My apologies.

I agree her manner is unusual but in my opinion, it is due to extreme frustration.

A big fat sigh. Of course, you focused on my mistake and ignored the fact that I tried to make the situation right.

You just refuse to cut me any slack no matter what.
