Clownshow,

By providing this link to the hidden message revealed by playing "Stairway to heaven" in reverse are you suggesting that if we reverse the wording of some of the "YIKES" posts that they will then make sense to the rest of us.

It's worth a try because I am at a loss to understand the rationality of this kind of reasoning.

POOR WELFARE!

Post by jean19540_0 » Fri Jan 21, 2005 1:00 pm

WHY OH WHY DO YOU THINK (sorry hit the wrong button) that all poor people or those less fortunate would like to make a buisness out of collecting welfare cheques dont you stop and think, that a vast majority of these people feel bad about it themselves. after all, we all know what a lot of society thinks of this. perhaps, just perhaps they actually feel quite bad about it. god what is wrong with society why do we have to think so little of, basically, the sick, the poor, and the disabled. you know, the vast majority of them would rather be sitting in your seat dont you think that people can genuinely fall on hard times why should we feel so begruging dont they deserve a lift up a bit of support while their, probably going through the worst time in their lives. . has i keep stressing, were all only one step off the broken rung of the ladder, this time next year, they may be begruging you jean

Jean,

If we're all one step away from that broken rung on the ladder what happens if we all hit it at the same time? I guess will all have to look at each other in confusion.

The fact is, if one quits using the broken ladder, climbing to the top will be a successful endevour. How's that for Objective thinking.

Jean ,
I'm not talking about the genuine fallen on hard times people. We all dont mind giving them a helping hand since its genuinely appreciated. It's the folks whom don't appreciate it and think its owed to them that we are talking about. Generations of the same family. Pregnant with 5 kids from different men sort. O the dole for years. They have money for drugs, they have money to party . They are professionals at abusing the welfare system.
The right job just hasn't come along. Read the post Jean. Its not against welfare, or NHS. Its about the abuse of the system that we are talking about.
Why is it that some pull themselves up no matter what and others can't make it with great subsidy from society.

Give a kid a toy and he will play with it for a day and throw it in the pile with all the rest. Make him earn the money to purchase it himself and he'll play with it gently and place it on the shelf for all to see.

You really must see Harrison's clock. Its at Greenwich.. http://www.nmm.ac.uk/server/show/conWebDoc.355

Cheers,

Chris

sorting them out!

hello, here again,
i take your point chris, but how do you sort the genuine from the not so genuine belive me, when goverments have a clamp down on thing, its always the genuine that suffer belive me, i know, as you've probably guessed, i am severly disabled myself, if they desided to start sifting through, the more vulnerable are the easiest to find. the number of times i have had to go for medicals, infront of panels of doctors. the stress that this causes, i dont think this does my problems much good at all, but i realise it as to be done
if its so easy, how do they get away with it, how do they get through the net
any ideas belive me, if i had the choice, i would rather work than go through the humilliation of that, whenever they descide to.
i think though that putting the pressure on people, who are genuinely sick, is a way of saying, they've sifftered through everybody, & they've then got some figurers to bandy about., to prove it please dont think im trying to justify myself, i dont need to, but i do feel very vulnerable at times, with all of these reviews, if i do, so will thousands of others. bye for now, jean...

Thats me biting my tounge and not lashing out at someone who doesn't deserve it. The reason that you don't understand my "Yikes" is because your governments propaganda machine is top notch.

Time to wade back in

Have to say that I agree with 90% of what imissyuma wrote. The 10% doesn't matter. I don't think the US is the only urban, industrial country with central heating and electricity.

I don't really understand why some people appear to believe that medicine can only be provided if somebody makes a BAG of money. What? Doctors won't work unless they live like Kings? Last I checked, Cuba (not the US) had more doctors per capita than any other country on Earth.

Medical, and other 'improving' research won't take place if somebody can't get rich off patent rights? I don't know what the clock had to do with it, but as I recall some of the most important, life saving discoveries netted the discoverers ka-zilch, on this side of the great beyond anyway.

I live in London Ontario. Home of Dr. Frederick Banting, discoverer of insulin. He was awarded the Nobel prize for medicine in 1923, and shared the money and the prize (though he didn't have to do either) with his lab assistant Best. Sold the patent rights to the University of Toronto for $1 -- that's right, one Spandoolick -- so that it could be massed produced at the lowest possible cost. He invented the G-suit later to save pilots lives, and was killed in 1943 on his way to test it. A veteran himself, he did not seek to benefit from the invention but donated it to the Government of Canada. You say he must have been rich as a Doctor? He ran a free clinic, in the poorest part of London, and supported himself by teaching at the University Hospital.

How about a real communist? Dr. Norman Bethune, father of blood typing and blood transfusion, had served as a Doctor in WWI and wanted desperately to find a way to save more wounded men. Not only did he NOT patent the thing, but -- Montreal's most famous Doctor -- he ran off to put his medicine into action during the Spanish Civil War, and was killed providing medicine to the Reds during the Chinese Civil War.

Oh so many -- but here's one of my personal favorites. Not a Doctor, but perhaps the greatest benefactor of humanity in the Twentieth Century. Dr. Charles Saunders, Director of the Dominion Experimental Farm, and son of his predecessor, William Saunders. Father and son worked for fifty years trying to develop a strain of wheat that could grow in the Canadian West: like the US great plains, short growing season, not much water. In 1903 Charles produced Marquis from a cross between Red Fyfe and seeds he had imported from India. Why do we care? If you eat bread, you know why. Food production exploded thereafter (quadrupled in the great plains within ten years, both sides of the border). What did he get for this? A $100 commemorative coin was struck in his honour last year.

Heah guys. Wake up. Industry might come up with a cure, or a better treatment for apnea, impelled by a profit motive. Just as likely that some worthy soul will cobble it together in a little lab somewhere, or that a government lab will find the answer. So history shows.

Thinking more about imissyuma's Post

Post by Popinka » Fri Jan 21, 2005 9:38 pm

Thinking more about it, and still with you.

Greatest, most evil fallacy in the world: if you're working class, you can only have it, if somebody else doesn't. If you're having troubles man, its the fault of somebody poorer -- some lazy sod, living the good life on the public purse. That's the logic of the Klan, and the Orange Lodge, and every Fascist organisation ever formed.

We had an election like that here. We had a couple in fact. Newly resurrected Conservative Party told us that the province was broke because we were spending so damned much money on welfare mothers. Having kids for kicks. Spending the welfare cheques and milk money on beer and smokes. Living on the fat of the land. So they got in . . . and sold Ontario Hydro (value: 54 billion) for drinks at the Ritz Carelton in Toronto, while slashing disability pensions 1/4. Nearly lost the next election, but played the same tune, and told us that the Liberals didn't know how to read a balance sheet. Didn't understand a budget. Would run the province right into the ground. Got in again . . . and cut taxes in such a manner that the top 10% of income earners benefitted entirely disproportionately. Stopped spending money on maintaining the prison system (which they wanted to privatise) to the degree that they put us in breach of international convention -- oh, and cut welfare again. Next election they played the same tune. Who was buying it? They lost. They successor government discovered that whoever knew how to read a balance sheet it wasn't the Conservatives. They'd understated the deficit by 5 billion a year. So it goes.

Analysis. Lenin called it 'the socialism of imbeciles'. Allowing your anger to be directed against those weaker than you, so that you won't notice when those stronger drink all the gravy. You wonder where its all gone. Stronger fellah says 'goddamn lazy good-for-nothings took it all [BURP!]'. How long do you believe it?

Concerning the benefits of a private system rather than public ownership. Still wondering why everything has to run better with profit. You don't think you're paying a surcharge. You say 'but somebody has to pay for those lazy SOBs'. In a socialised system that's right. How is that more expensive, however, that paying for a system in which every rep of a for-profit drug company expects to travel first class as a right, in order to distribute 'free samples' and pamphlets to doctors too lazy to keep current, and who earn their HUGE incomes by perscribing the wrong medicine following the wrong diagnosis? The real kick in the butt: when you buy the wrong medicine for the wrong ailment, your also paying for the drinks on the train, and the Gold holiday in Barbardos, as surely as Magic Johnson's HUGE fees are rolled into the price of every pair of basket ball shoes. So much better than providing care for those who can't afford it -- like lazy Walmart greeters for instance.

Popinka,
I'm sure you provide your legal services for free since you are against anyone making a living by working in private enterprise. Many of the cost in medicine are caused by lawyers bringing suit. Now we practice defensive medicine. Expensive Testing just in case so we dont get sued.

The real ironey is you use this forum , provided by capitalists for free, to air your socialist views. Where do you get off comparing for profit business people to the Klan. I suppose your going to blame big business for your weight problem also. I'm sure your socialist medical system Dr. told you to eat less and exercise more. Furthermore, you say you pay more in taxes than most people make, That makes you a capitalist also so stop calling the kettle black. Maybe you are over charging for your service to those that can least afford it.

Fact is .Under the capitalist system in the USA you can purchase a complete Auto CPAP system with all the bells and whistles for less than your mandatory contribution under your socialist healthcare system. I noticed you were inquiring if you had to pay tax if you bought a system on line from cpap.com . AN American Capitalist company which you so dispise.
IMHO you should not be allowed to go around the socialist system that you so much love.

Its a bit more than 2 cents but I had to get this off my chest. OOPS

Most of the laws in this country and yours are made by Lawyers so why dont you go to your lawyer chat line and petiton then to change things.

Sorry for the rant everyone. Popinko this rants for you.

fly guy, calm down for goodness sake or you'll burst one of those blood vessals . popinka, is only voiceing her opinion i think making comments about her weight problem (if she has one ) is a bit uncalled for, do we realy need to get personal + she is only saying what she belives & to the best of my knowledge as'nt insulted anybody, or has she & i've missed it i personaly agree with alot of her comments, not everyone, perhaps, but thats my parogative, i have had discusions with wade & irvine, who again have totaly differant veiws, but i dont critisise them personaly. we live in a free society, where we can speak our mind on these topics & belive what we want . come on fly guy, be nice to popinka, she's not a villan . be gentle with her take care, jean
