Angry
When fatigue has been ongoing for years, you are falling asleep at your desk as I was, snore loudly, and no other causes have been found, I'd say it's time for a sleep study.
I was skeptical when I was first referred to a sleep disorders doctor, but I wasn't the least bit angry. I was simply willing to try anything. I'd tried a lot more off-the-wall stuff over the years, so why not this? I didn't know much about it and it sounded a little strange, but I went on the Internet and found articles from the most prestigious hospitals in the country including Stanford. Any doubt that this was not a mainstream serious condition were removed.

Rant ...ugly American my ass
Hello, Caution ..Rant Ahead
I just had to add to this. In my 20 years in the USAF I learned a few things. Everyplace I went they loved our money . They all love to hate Americans.
Last Year I visited Westminster Abby. I asked the guide where Isaac Newtons memorial was (it was behind a plant). The guide said "You're an American, How do you like killing babys" Well . Like I said I was used to that talk. So I replied that Isaac Newton was my uncle on my mothers side. She didnt like that. My mother grew up in Chingford just up the road . I was born in Irving Scotland. have a UK birth certificate. Am I really an American ? That popped her cork.
I have see many foreign officials visiting the USA. Their planes are full of America products when they leave. Washing machines, tevevisions, VCRs, Jewelry, Appliances. Every nook and cranney filled up with "STUFF" Most from third world piss ant countries that just want American $$$$. Most of these products wouldnt even work in the average home in their country. No electricity. No running water. Whatever. The leaders have them tho. These places wouldn't be so bad off if their own government wasnt robbing them blind. These places dont have money for medicine or food but they have Planes and Guns . Mostly to keep their own people in line while theyt live the high life. Kids kept high on drugs so they can be used in war.
We may not be perfect . We arent always right. But damit nobody is more generous than America. Our blood has bought freedom on every continent.
Get off your ass and work. Dont expect the socialists to do everything . Soon there wont be anyone working. Only consumers wanting more free goods.

TOUGH LUCK
good morning all you sleepy heads, across the ocean all those cpap machines ticking along...
thanks for all of your replys. i was not and would never judge anybody, we all have familys to feed & great i applaud anybody who "gets up off their ass" as was put , but my very strong point was , everybody is not in a position to "get up off their ass". just because someone is sick or disabled, it does'nt make them spongers, because someone has fallen on hard times, does'nt make them spongers. it could happen to ANYONE. what happens as one of the previous writers said, in the case of long term illness, it goes on, & on, getting worse & worse, it could be you, or even worse one of you children, grand children. then your health insurance is up for renual, where do do stand then does the insurance company take you back on, renew your policy, knowing that your medical bills are going to keep spiraling i DONT think so do you in all honesty.then what happens to you, your child, your grandchild in the uk nobody would ever be in such a worrying situation, & lets face it, when your desperatly sick, or disabled STRESS is one thing you could do without. someone mentioned 1979-81, well you can be assured things have inproved drastically since then, that was more than 20 yrs ago, although i must say, i was going through a very tough time health wise then, but i could not grumble one bit, i was treated well & thoughraly. yes you will always get the rich going for private treatment, but at the end of the day, their treated by the same doctors, get the same drugs, but probably more of them, (the doctor as to line his pockets). i stated that from very first refural through to getting my cpap, it took about 3 months, well one of the replyers (sleepy guy) said he waited about the same amount of time, privatly in america, so you can see how things have got better here.
wading through, i did not say that you said tough luck, that was my way of expressing some of the feelings that some people have too the plight of the less fortunate. nobody made any law stating your abliged to do anything, as i said before i applaude anyone who is able who goes out & does their bit.
with regard to africa, we could all do more, by patitioning our governments to lift the trade barriers, to give these people a chance to begin to make things better for themselves. with regard to their governments & guns ect, i totally agree, but that does'nt help that poor child with a swollen belly, or that mother with a baby at her breast, trying desperatly for milk, but she herself is so malnurished she has non to give. some might bring up the issue of contraception, well do we seriously think if they had the money for contraception, that they would buy it no they'd put food in their kids bellys. these poor people are living in complete squalor, they have NOTHING AT ALL wading through also stated " i havent a clue" well let me tell you, i have a little bit more of a clue than you could perhaps imagin.
AMERICA, why do you presume, everybody loves to hate america i know they do an awfull lot to help out, but they are not alone. the west in general is VERY rich. as with regard to the coment, "these piss ass" countrys, with no electric & no running water, well i'm stunded (unless i've looked at it wrongly). if you lived in one of these "piss ass" countrys, & you went & saw all of these things so much in abundance, at such low prices, IF you had the money would,nt you get one, i know we would, so can we blame them but again its the rich, what ordinary person out there can even afford the price of a air ticket.
one last thought, these people you say who love to hate america, then perhaps they see america as a country which is always shouting loudly about what its done, & perhaps they find that just a little bit, in your face, (so as to speak!)
seriously, the west is a great place to live, we are very lucky, indeed. but you cannot blame those in the other parts of the world for, perhaps wanting to sample our delights. otheres want no western influance whatso ever, & for that we must respect them
CHRIS. is this better i've put my finger on the caps button, JUST ONCE (sorry) for you

Jean, if you are going to quote me please do not quote only part of the thought and make reference to it. You make it sound as though I'm refering to everthing that you said when I was refering to a specific coment you made.
Tell me just how do you know the thoughts and feelings of myself and others that...should think and truely care about others a little more.

I told myself that I was not going the write again on this particular topic. I regret now having brought it up and an resulting hard feelings it aroused. I particularly regret offending any of my new Chums who have been so helpful in my new struggle with CPAP/ Apnea.
Irving I could not disagree with your comments more. Frankly I find them frightening. My husband is a colonel in the Canadian reserves, was once full time army has taught at our West Point (Royal Roads Military Academy) and is now a professor of International Relations and Military History at U.W.O. He has been on several U.N. missions, and I think he and others we are close to also have a fairly good aquaintance with N. America's role on the world stage.
I think you are conflating the idea of hating American's, with questioning the proper relationship between the Southern Hemisphere and Northern Hemisphere. Fact remains my friend that 90% of the world is born into countries where the average wage is less than $1 a day. While there are tribal politics / other factors which often misappropriate the few resources available in these countries, fact remains is that our violations of International Law (Canadians included) often work to keep these people in poverty. N. Americans & Europeans repeatedly protect their own trade and violate W.T.O. agreements to prevent countries which produce textiles and agriculture (the only products an undedeveloped country is capable of) from competing on the world markets. One only has to look at how the U.S. once funded the Taliban and their speculation of world currencies (when Wall Street traders dropped Brazillian currencies in the 90s and pushed a generation of middle class into poverty to make yet more money) to see that the impact that rich rest has on the rest on the countries is hardly benevolent. A few token supplies after utter economic and miliatry dessimation is a farce. Many of my husband's friends (who were higher ranking than him) quit over Canada's potential involvment in Afganistan alone. Irving why don't you read a little and find out what is really going on. Read widely, not just the big brother like indoctrination that CNN provides (how the US has been editing their own media is anything from free). I am not a socialist (I voted for a right of centre party last election), but as a Christian and a thinking person I simply cannot sit back in ignorance of what is going on.

And another thing! I do pay taxes. My husband and I pay more taxes than most people make. We both work very long hours. As someone with Sleep Apnea I do not work as efficiently as I would like, but I am trying my damndest! You will see from Jean's previous posts that she is struggling with a lot of very serious complications (likely related to her apnea)...one can only struggle through severe illness for so long.
Sorry for the spelling in my previous posts ( I blame the sleep apnea)!

Popinka,
Don't fret that you've offended your new cpap chums. Our differences on world politics won't get in the way of our common goal of succeeding with cpap. We're all tough enough to handle a few heated discussions. These issues are key to the future of healthcare for all of us. It's good to have an open discussion like this so that we can all understand each other's point of view. Keep posting topics as you see fit. So far the ones you've participated in have generated a lot of response...that's a good thing.

Hogtown Hoser
Hi there. Like Popinka, I'm a citizen of soviet Canukistan. Don't agree with everything she said, but agree with the general argument. One thing to keep in mine, guys, when the fighting starts -- who's better than who; who's system works better -- is that as people with a permanent health issue we're all of us dependent on some form of insurance, and all of us probably take in more than we fork over. Socialised medicine IS insurance. Here in Olbast Ontario, socialised medicine is OHIP -- Ontario Health Insurance Program. The only difference between it and something private is that everyone has a policy and premiums are scaled according to ability to pay. Oh yes. The company is the province. I've been struck reading these posts not so much by what divides people, but by what unites them -- vulnerability to bad diagnoses, ignorant doctors (why not mandatory retesting, to ensure that they stay current?), money/work issues.
One thing I didn't understand is why Irving understood any of this as an attack on the United States. Odd how posters say 'health care is expensive, and I'm having trouble making it', and anybody could read that as an anti-American statement . . . unless American freedom = huge profits for medical suppliers.
Great posts. Time for a snooze . . .

Oh missed something. Snooze will have to wait. Irving: twenty years in the USAF. Guess that makes you a special sort of American -- one with access to VA hospitals, a pension if you're forced to take long term disability, and with an understanding, paternalistic employer. Shoot. You've got socialised medicine man, face facts!
As I understand it, health insurance everywhere is about two generations old, whether its organised as NHS, OHIP or Blue Cross (for those who can pay) and Medicare (for those who can't). Anyway you cut it, its damned expensive. I think the US spends 14% of GNP on health care. We spend 13%. EU nations, I think, spend about 10%. In Ontario OHIP takes up 2/3rds of the Provincial budget. Common issue then is how can we get better for less?
NOW time for a snooze.

Possible Forums
We need a dedicated forum called "The Global Politics of Survival", a sub forum under that called "The International Politics of Breathing" and yet another sub-forum under that targeted especially for us called "World Wide Political Considerations Toward Better Breathing at Night".
Not to make fun of the thought-provoking albeit excellent points made in this discussion. Thanks to all for a most interesting read!

Hey Hogtown . Are you from Indiana ? I Have my own private insurance thru my job. I dont use the VA system. Its broke just like national health is and right now I'd rather see our GIs from the war using it . Its for service related disabilities which I have non. I get faster service thru private pay. I but my cpap supplies from the internet. Pay out of my pocket. So dont worry its not costing you or the VA a dime.
As far as america bashing : I just responded to JEANS assaulting babble about NHS and Africa and the evil west.
Thats the great thing about this forum , You never know what it will lead to.
So can you explain to me why all those Canadians are rushing to the states for their no waiting health care. Maybe they wil not live long enough to see the MRI machine in Canada. Over here they are everywhere.
I love the changing of the guard at Ottawa. Stood on the reviewing stand with the PM back in 1975. It was awesome!
