It's a fungal infection, so like bacterial infections you MUST take the meds for the full course, or it can come back worse.

How long did it take, the Dr wants me to take them 4x/day for 2 weeks even if it seems better.
I don't remember, but I do remember dissolving those tablets in my mouth a few times a day... So sounds about right. I would definitely do the entire course that was prescribed, even if it seems better--like the Doc said.

We saw our Dr for followup today, Mike seems to be doing better, his BP is normal, he reduced one of his meds and he had blood drawn for kidney function and a few other tests. His cpap therapy seems to have settled down the last 2 nights. My thrush seems better but tongue still burning slightly, he wants me to take meds for 10 more days and ordered some extensive blood tests, we'll have results probably Monday. I'm finally giving in to my anxiety/depression and will start taking the meds he prescribed last week which I had resisted. I hate it but I recognize that I need some intervention right now as I have many responsibilities and must be able to function. I'm sorry you got me at a bad time so forgive the vent.

I'm sorry you're going through this rough patch, Dori. Who is taking care of you?

Hi Dori. I haven't been on the forum for weeks, but I'm catching up. I'm sorry to hear about Mike's illness, but glad you're both feeling better.

Please take care of yourself, though. I know how easy it is to neglect yourself when you're taking care of someone else, but it's a really bad idea. If you run yourself into the ground, then who will take care of Mike? If you can't do it for yourself (though really, you should -- you deserve it! ) do it for him.

I'd take both acidophilus and the active yogurt for a while. It will also help to avoid eating anything that will feed the yeast better than it feeds you. You're under so much stress already, I wouldn't recommend you make any radical changes, but avoiding (or at least cutting back) sugar, especially sweet drinks, and white flour should help. You can find anti-candida diets all over the web, but don't get carried away. If you change your diet too much too fast, it will compromise your immune system, and that's the last thing you need right now.

I hope you're both back to your best soon.

There's nothing to forgive, Dori. If you can't vent to us, then who? I'm pleased to hear that, in general, things are improving. I'm still praying for you and Mike.

Hopefully all this will pass soon
It will, insh'Allah.

DH and I both had thrush at one time.
(I used way too much fresh garlic in the garlic bread--it killed off our oral flora--garlic kills germs, even good ones)
Hubby recovered very quickly, but I was still suffering even with the yucky lozenges the doc rx'd.
I took matters into my own hands and re-populated my good mouth bugs:
--by having him chew gum, after which I chewed the same piece.
It worked like a charm. Gross, but effective.

Brilliant! And, well 'french' kissing or chewing gum - what's the difference LOL

See, Dori, where else could you get advice like this?! Should I send Mike a pack of gum?

That is taking "togetherness" one step too far!! Thank you very much!

Oh my goodness... An adopted grandfather once sat me down and we had a long discussion about girls. I was young and girls were (and still are) a little different in my perspective. He warned me that there would come a time when I would eagerly "swap spit" with them while building a relationship. I was told to take it like a man and enjoy it to the best of my ability. I later found it to be very enjoyable...

I wish he was still alive. He would really have cracked up with the idea of "swapping spit" to rebuild mouth flora.
