Started with a sore throat and chills last night, seem to be getting a cold today. I guess I ran myself down, couldn't go to rehab today which upset me although I did speak to Mike a few times and he seems to be OK. They've scheduled a conference with us for tomorrow at 1PM to discuss the progress and discharge planning so I have to get well fast. Hope you're all doing well, I haven't had a chance to keep up with the latest news.

Re: Pray for Mike
Hi, I'm feeling better today, just some cold symptoms but OK. We had the conference today with the team and it was decided to discharge him tomorrow if we can get the Dr to OK it or else he'd have to stay until Mon or Tues when the Dr comes in again. Mike really objected to that so if we can get everything in place he'll come home tomorrow. I'm a bit apprehensive but he's been pretty stable all week and getting stronger so everyone thinks he'll be OK. He's been through a lot but he's a fighter. I'm anxious to get him back on his cpap schedule, hope it won't be too difficult. Thanks for keeping us in your prayers. I can't wait to be able to catch up on all the new posts. Hope you're all doing well.

Re: Pray for Mike
Thanks for the update, Dori.
Sorry you're under the weather (but glad it's just a cold), and happy to hear Mike is doing well enough to be discharged. I bet you'll both feel a lot better as soon as he's back home.

Re: Pray for Mike
Hi All, Mike came home yesterday, pretty hectic getting settled but he was so happy to be home and looks pretty good. I was very nervous this morning while he ate breakfast because that's when he had those episodes but everything was fine. The only problem which I was kind of expecting was the cpap. Everything was adjusted the same but he had 30 mins of large leaks and the rest of the leak line was pretty choppy too. Lots of snoring. His AHI was 2.5 but who knows. He's never been able to adjust his mask in his sleep but when I woke up at 3AM and heard the leaking all I did was move his mask down a bit and it stopped. Now he's saying the words I didn't want to hear, "why do I have to wear the mask if I slept OK in the hospital without it? I hate this mask". I'm thinking of lowering his pressure a bit to see if we get the leaks under control again. Any thoughts on that? Or what I can do about the setup to ease the transition back to nightly cpap?

Re: Pray for Mike
Is the setup the same and are the straps exactly the same as before he went to the hospital? Unless he's lost weight, I'm not sure why it would be leaking more now than it was then. My guess is that the straps were adjusted in the hospital and you need to get them back to how they were (and then measure them and write it down--eg, "top straps 4" on each side, bottom straps 2.5"...", etc.).
Is he arguing the point and considering refusing to wear it or just complaining about wearing it but will? If the latter, and if it were me, I'd make a joke and say, "That's no way to talk about your Girlfriend!" or whisper playfully, "Shhhh! You're hurting your Girlfriend's feelings!" and then continue as if it was never said. If he's refusing to wear it or really giving you a real hard time, you'd know better what would work (personally I'd play the "I've been worried sick about you, and I need more worries like a hole in the head!" card... In short, appeal to his concern for YOU. But that's just a guess, and you'd know better.)DoriC wrote: Now he's saying the words I didn't want to hear, "why do I have to wear the mask if I slept OK in the hospital without it? Re: Pray for Mike
My guess, fwiw, if he slept well in the hospital,
it was not because of not using a machine.
I would sleep pretty well on painkillers, too.

Re: Pray for Mike
Right now it's just a complaint so I'm not making any comments and will do the routine tonight as usual. I did mention that he seemed less sleepy today, he thought about it for a minute and said, " do you think maybe because I'm back on the machine"? Yes! Actually, I brought his backup cpap and mask in the hospital. As usual, I'm being impatient and will give it a few more nights before I begin getting nervous again.

I'm glad Mike's home, and I hope you're feeling better, Dori. Try not to worry (I know, I know). I think keeping to your usual nightly routine with Mike is smart. Crossing my fingers that it goes smoothly.

Despite the worry it has to be sooo gooooood to have Mike home, DoriC. May God continue to bless both of you. There aren't all that many that have shared the love and devotion you two have had for each other all these years. May the two of your share many more! (((hugs)))

Re: Pray for Mike
So happy to hear this are getting better Dori. It will take awhile for Mike to settle back into normalcy, don't expect everything to be perfect all at once. Baby steps will lead to success.............seems to me I've heard that one before...ah...now I remember..it was our Dori giving advice to an impatient newby . Things will improve and you will both be back in each others loving arms VERY soon.
Cheers and hugs
