Wow, DoriC, what a ride you & Mike have been on. Sounds like things are settling in a better place for him...what a relief!

OK thrush...bummer. It's killed on contact with coconut oil -- ya gotta get the organic kind. If you don't like the taste, find a jar of Spectrum Organic's refined organic coconut oil (tasteless)...no hexanes used in processing. Jarrow also sells natural and refined forms, but it's harder to find here in Atlanta. Here's how I've read some docs use it to cure thrush; 1 tablespoon in mouth, let dissolve (it melts at 72 degrees so it's gonna melt pretty quick) in the back of your mouth. I've never needed to do this as I have coconut oil daily as it's all I cook with. I'd say enjoy some Thai coconut milk chicken soup (Pad Tom I think) but the aggressive chilis in Thai cuisine might not feel so good now ... and a pina colada is just waaaay too much sugar ! Great addition to whatever the docs' have you doing and if it's suddenly 'cured' ya don't have to tell 'em how unless they've got an open mind . Get well Dori...rooting for both of ya!

Has it really been 8 days? It's been a whirlwind of Drs, keeping track of meds, trying to figure out day to day problems, etc. My thrush seems to be getting better, I've finished my lozenges, I've been doing salt water rinses and eating yogurt and taking acidopholus, so we'll see. Mike has good days and not so good and it makes me very anxious not to be able to figure what's bothering him. Our nurse is thinking he's just not getting good restorative sleep even though the data says he is, AHI 0.7-1.7, nice even leak line. In the rehab without the cpap he woke up really refreshed and said he felt "great" as I could tell when I spoke to him in the morning on the phone. And he had a pretty active PT program there which kept him going much of the day. Now at home he's sleepy when he wakes and naps most of the morning. So I've got to look into that, he may need another sleep study. Truthfully, at night when things quiet down I can't get myself to the computer or the forum , just want to veg out in front of the TV until I get sleepy. Hopefully, things will setle down one of these days and I can catch up with all my favorite people. Thanks for thinking of us.

Hi Dori,
Good to hear from you. I hope you will soon be "mended", not only on the mend...

Wasn't Mike getting oxygen in the rehab? Has his oxygen level been tracked at home?

O.

Blessings, Dori. It sounds like you're somewhat burned out after all this, which is perfectly understandable. How are you sleeping?

Good question about the O2, ozij.

Hi Dori

Sometimes self-care means doing exactly what you say above.

You can catch up with us anytime, but you have to look after yourself every day, cause there ain't no one else going to do it for you

Oh My! Dori, I just came in to post my news. Tonight I noticed your thread. I am so sorry to hear that Mike is not well. Of course you have my prayers and good thoughts.I will post a prayer chain on my cruising forum. We have done some good work with our prayers. They are always willing to help. Taking care of Dori is very important too. You can't help Mike effectively if you are not well and exhausted. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Laura

I am so sorry to hear this! You are both in my prayers, and hopefully they will soon determine what Mike needs in order to get better.

Hugs,

Dori,

Haven't said much -- you were getting good advice! -- but you and Mike have been in my thoughts.

Interesting update! Mike has been somewhat rebelling about using cpap since he's home from rehab, insisting that he slept well without it there. I've told him that the nurses all reported that he was very restless and was awake many times during the night to urinate. He agreed with that part but said it was because they gave him a lot of liquids and still insisted he slept better without cpap. So he just had 2 miserable nights without his cpap and is now convinced that he needs to go back on cpap tonight. Whew! I hope these last 2 nights haven't set him back as he was doing pretty well these last few weeks although he does nap a bit more than he used to before this last illness. The Drs have told me to accept this as an ageing pattern and a compromised immune system but long as his vital signs are all OK not to worry and he may still be adjusting to his new BP meds. I think someone here asked about his oxygen levels. He only had oxygen in the hospital and not in the rehab although they did do an overnight study and wore oxygen equipment during his daily physical therapy. Hope everyone is doing well and I hope to be able to participate with all of you soon.

Say "hello" to Mike and let him know that we all are rooting for him.

Remember to look after your own needs too.

In case anyone is struggling and doubting the benefits of good cpap therapy, I'm here to tell you that the difference in how Mike felt today after a good 9hr sleep with his machine and only 1 bathroom break is really amazing. I had almost forgotten myself the pre-cpap days and how bad it really was. He's happy to be sleeping with his "girlfriend" again. Sometimes it's good to be smacked with a 2x4!
