I prefer warm and friendly interactions to come from warm and friendly human beings - there is enough warmth and friendliness in the human interactions on this forum to have kept me here for more than 3 years.

I do not need - nor want - pseudo "personalized" notifications from what I had supposed was an impersonal robot that did not use my screen name in connection with my email. I find that kind of fake friendliness disconcerting. I was obviously wrong in what I understood when reading the registration screen info 3 years ago.

Exactly.
Furthermore, by connecting screen names to users email addresses, cpap.com has created at least one more connection in their system between usernames and screen names - and we have no idea how many users use the cpap@cpaptalk user account, know its password, deal with its address list, etc.

As for adding the PM text: I now realize that one of these days, when the database gets messed up, the text of my PM might arrive in somebody else's email. I will certainly keep that in mind. A person's ability to read my PM is no longer dependent on their ability to log in to cpaptalk, only on their ability (or somebody else's) to log in to their email.

Personally, nobody but me has access to my email - but - passwords can be cracked, email databases moved from one place to another. Many people - especially those older than 40 have younger relatives helping them with their email - and other computer related chores. Why should anyone's grandchild, say: "Huh? Where'd you get that nickname from?"

O.
Hi ozij,

All duly noted and moved up the chain for discussions and decisions. Does anyone else on the board have an opinion, one way or the other, about this particular matter?
Hi Everyone,

Thanks very much for sharing your opinions and views about this. We have mulled it over and looked at all sides and I think we understand a little better now the concerns. We are in the process of changing it back to the old way. Basically, no usernames in the email notifications and no text of the PM in the email notifications. This should be in place soon. Thanks for letting us know what ya'll want!

I'd REMOVE the damn DELETE button, it has caused nothing but problems on this board ever since it was enabled for spam control.

Posters like mkirkwag are now able to delete entire treads!!

You should only be able to Edit your own posts and NOT delete it and others posts especially not the associated posts contained within a tread or those contributed by others.

By allowing this to continue, it effectively eliminates all the efforts and contributions put in by others when contributing to a particular post/thread.

As a general rule, I don't usually respond to questions submitted to me in PM's and I get them all the time. I feel by responding in PM's that no one in the public forum learns from the answer, therefore I generally only reply in the public forum.

However, some people don't like hearing the truth in the public forum for whatever the reason and get offended by that then go off on a tangent with the Delete button. This time they not only deleted all my responses they deleted the responses of the other contributors on the forum.

Hey Snoredog. Are you talking about the Report Spam button or the delete button?? The way the delete button works is you can only delete your OWN posts, and only if noone has responded yet. If there are threads disappearing, I would be curious if you have an example.

For example I can delete this post I just made right now.... but if someone else posts after me...I cannot delete my own post.

In fact.... if I post again, right after my previous post (like I am doing now)... I no longer can delete the post above this one. BUT I can delete this post before someone responds now. Nobody, except someone with Admin privileges can delete other members posts. Report Spam is a different story. I believe Johnny Goodman monitors those regularly and decides what is truly spam and what is not. If he decides it is spam... it gets deleted.

a complete thread disappeared, not just mine but others who contributed to it must have been 10 or more posts in it. I know Goofproof responded to it along with me, either that or something is up cause it appears to be gone.

Hrmmmm. Well, veddy intervesting. I suppose someone could have reported as spam and Johnny made a mistake and deleted? I dunno. One other person mentioned a post disappearing from a thread/topic. Anyone else have this issue? Let's keep our eyes open for this. We certainly don't want a bug like THAT!

Oh do you remember the topic at all? Is this the one? viewtopic/p291274/viewtopic.php?p=291057
I will say, it is possible the original poster edited their topic title and that might make it hard to recognize or find again on the list of topics.

yeah that was it, it appears to be back now, I had another post to append to it and when I hit Submit it said message was deleted, then I got a PM from someone wanting to debate it there. Maybe I got caught up in a reboot or hiccup or something.

When members answer a poll without actually replying, the post should also bump to the top of the posts. Currently posts only bump someone responds.

Ozij beat me to it! I also wanted to thank the team, working on the forum, for their very prompt response to a situation raised by members. It is a great feeling to be part of a forum where the "administration" really listens to the members! Thank you!!

I had asked that chat open in a new window, and you've done that. Thanks.

I've not been closely following the evolution, nor have I kept good notes as to what happens when, so please forgive me if the following comments have already been noted and/or corrected:

Links within a posting, particularly links to other CPAPtalk posts, have occasionally opened in the same window, and the "back" arrow resulted in an "expired window" notice requiring a "refresh" to get back to the starting point. Can you arrange that links within posts always open in a new window?

Also, I think that I am noticing that links to previous individual posts now open at the top of the page they are on, instead of going directly to the specific post. Is that correctable?

Many thanks.

I don't think you should get an "expired window" message unless you are performing a submit post.. For example: the equipment below of a user's post open in the same window and if i hit back it does go back normally.

Can I get "ResMed VPAP III" added to the drop down list in the "Equipment" tab of the profile? You have the Malibu, which is similar, but the III looks like its a "dumbed down" version. I'd like my profile to show that I don't have the features of the Malibu. Thanks in advance.
