What if someone here had a copy of the software? What would the legalities of sharing it be?

That depends on the software license, but it's safe to say that it would be considered "Software piracy" if you make copies for other people to use. (Some places still consider one backup copy for safe keeping to be OK, as long as you don't share it).
How much "risk" you would be under depends on the companies that make that product.
In any case, if you decided to share it with other people, it would probably be a good idea not to talk about it in a public forum.
But that's just my opinion.

A while back I bought 1.8 from a fellow forum member. I have had my old 1.6i version sitting around in a box and I just got around to unpacking today.

I'd be willing to let it go for $120 (shipped free w/in continental US) ... Sorry, only accepting PayPal payments ... you will have to get your own card reader as I'm keeping mine (http://www.two-factor.com/shop/index.php?productID=115)

Also keep in mind that Encore Pro 1.6i does not work with Windows Vistas or M-Auto w/ Aflex.

I spoke with Respironics customer service yesterday w/ a few questions. One was concerning software. The lady told me it really was never supposed to be released to the public. I asked her why 1.6 was still available and other manufacturers had it available for their machine and she could not answer.

I called cpap.com yesterday and they said even though 1.6 was still showing on the website, Resporonics had forced them to remove it for sale and now it is no longer available.

I am sitting on a 'scrip now for an A-flex machine and I asked cpap.com if she were me, would she get the A-flex and wait for software to be re-released, or get a different machine with software available right now. She said get the A-flex. Comments?

ALSO - respironics told me yesterday that the smart card would hold many months of data and I did not have to worry about downloading every 7 days, which is contrary to what I read on this site. Comments on that?

I saw software V1.6 and reader go for $267.00 on eBay - DANG!

The improved functionality of the Encore® Pro SmartCard® and the power of Encore Pro software gave us the opportunity to tailor some of Encore Pro's reporting capabilities to specific operating capabilities of different devices. For instance you can program the SmartCard to change the therapy mode of a BiPAP® Pro from bi-level to Bi-FlexTM without ever taking the device in for servicing.

I assumed that the problem with putting the reader on a hub was power, but it is not.
I have a very well powered hub that works with everything I have connected to it, _except_ the card reader.
Also of note: You must plug the reader into the same USB port every time, or it will not be recognized by Encore.
It looks like some sort of problem with how Windows enumerates the USB bus, and perhaps Encore only checks only the first branches of the USB tree, and expects the card reader to be in exactly the same space every time.
Not quite the way it was described in the USB standard.

But if it can be made to work, then it's better than nothing.

[quote="Panhandler"]I sent a message on the "Contact Us" page of the Respironics website. The check list of information you have to provide suggests that they're totally "provider-centric".

By the way, there is also a http://www.cpapsupplyusa.com.

I talked with a guy at http://www.YouNeedSleep.com the other day. His website says he has the software we want, just call. On the phone he said that Respironics doesn't want the software listed on the website, but that he can sell it. Price: $499. He also said that Respironics told him that he could burn a copy AT NO CHARGE for anyone who buys a machine from him. I didn't pursue it further, as I'm in no shape to buy another machine. Maybe someone else is close to making a decision.

BTW, I emailed the management here to let them know what I'd heard, but haven't gotten a response.

This is getting interesting.

I can't really comment on what the smart card can hold, but I can tell you what I've seen Encore PRO 1.8i report from the card.

It can report several months of compliance data, but most of us here can tell if we're using the machine or not without checking the smart card.

It reports a maximum of 7 days of detailed data. It might hold more, but if their software won't report it, what difference does it make?

I want all the detailed data I can get from the machine.
When I talk with the doctor and show her the reports we can discuss what's going on rather than just the AHI etc......
An example is that I used the data available to convince her to re-prescribe me to an APAP machine from a CPAP...

That and I'm just a data freak......

cheers

So Respironics will sell it to your doctor but not you even though you have a prescription, is that right?

Maybe we should get Michael Moore involved?

Encore Software and Downloading information

Post by C4009 » Sat Jul 14, 2007 8:59 am

Why spend the money for software that you are not even suppose to have and you will not be able to get updates on. Instead i would suggest that you go to http://www.sleeprestfully.com's website and on the home page is information on how they will download your information for free and e-mail you the results.

Maybe cuz you get what you pay for ... usage data is useless.

Software provides the important efficacy data.

I think it's a legal liability issue. It's hard to understand how people who do something stupid can sue and win, but they do, and we all pay for it. (Anyone have a soapbox handy?) Don't get me started!!
Never attribute to malice what can be adequately explained by stupidity.
