We don't yet know its mutability. If it mutates as fast as flu, it means it may become seasonal. If it mutates faster than flu, it could become nearly unremediable. If it's mutability is low, we could cure it. So far, it's looking more like it's at least as mutable as flu. That's why it could be with us for a while.

Clotting and embolisms are apparently part of what happens with covid-19. If a new strain manifests worse clotting and resultant embolisms, strokes. etc., that could be really bad.

Ironically, it's entirely possible we could see less flu next fall because of the social distancing and lock-downs world-wide.

We can only hope but I wouldn't take it to the bank. We can only prepare and do what we can (which isn't much) to mitigate the spread.
It's going to be around for a while I am afraid even when they do figure out an effective vaccine. Remember those people who are anti vaccine? It's going to be around for a while I am afraid.

Anecdotal evidence from essential business owners in my area says we have already seen fewer cases of viral infections (flu, rhinoviruses, intestinal viruses) in the last two months. They contribute it to stay-at-home and social distancing in general.

The ones Gramps and I talked to were early to implement programs in their workplaces and have seen fewer sick days.

Nice! I hope the anecdotal evidence bears out long-term in the data. I suppose/hope more brick-and-mortar businesses are going to find ways to adapt long-term as well.

You know if the only people the anti vaccination people hurt was themselves I might just right them off if they die from the virus as continuation of the species by killing off weak stupid people but unfortunately it's not all about their stupidity. The virus doesn't care who it infects and who it spreads to as long as it gets to continue feeding on people. Unfortunately even when there is a viable vaccine for some idiots to refuse....not everyone will be able to take it for any number of reasons and the infected stupid people will be out there sharing it with innocents again.

Kill off enough people and there won't be any economy anyway that is worth anything for years and years.

This virus isn't going anywhere anytime soon. We can't stop it and it won't stop on its own for years to come...if ever.

How many deaths are an acceptable reality in exchange for opening up things? People won't abide by common sense restrictions when things get opened up. They are already proving that fact even now.....crowding at the beaches...protests with people packed together like sardines and no masks. People will die that didn't have to die and that part is the heartbreaking reality.
How many deaths are considered "okay" as payment for the economy? What if one of those deaths is someone you know and love and will miss terribly...is that death worth it just because someone felt it was just too much of a restriction to heed some common sense guidelines for when they go out in the public.

Again...I am not against opening things up but it needs to be done in a careful measured way so that the loss of life is kept to a minimum if at all possible. People need to embrace the new "normal" but they won't. Some will but enough won't that will mean that the rest of us are put in harms way. They are already doing it now and the restrictions aren't even lifted. What they hell are they going to do once the common sense restrictions are lifted?

When people make sweeping generalizations, it's time to carefully examine what they say for all the myriad flaws.

The present health system in the USA was built on the supposition of an in-motion economy, so I get why people continue to discuss the prevention of the collapse of local, regional, national, and international economies, even mid-crisis of a pandemic. The two remain joined at the hip. For better or worse.

The solution to it all is way over my head, but I think I somewhat get the concerns on both sides. Hopefully it will all be resolved before it gets to the messy, deadly widespread-unrest-and-warfare stage that historically often follows the collapse of large economic systems.

Either way, I totally get why people are trying their best to keep things from transitioning from "hunker" to "bunker." Things seemed balanced on a razor's edge even before the virus.
