i understand greater good. but can someone explain to me the practical benefit i derive from knowing i have possibly become infected if there is no action to take past just knowing?
You do have an action choice...you may not like it or do it but you do have an action available.
If available...you could get tested for antibodies or active infection.
If testing isn't available you have a choice to be a responsible human and make an effort to self quarantine or take extra cautious measures should you venture out into the public. This action does potentially affect others.
Greater good choice so you don't hurt someone else....IMHO nothing is more important or practical than that.
Some people think only of themselves....some people actually think about other people before themselves. Society has always been that way....but now those people who think only of themselves can actually kill others at the same time they are only thinking of themselves.
We can't stop this virus yet and it may be quite a while before we can stop it...and we can't effectively treat it yet....so the only real weapon we have at this time is to try to reduce the spread as much as possible. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out how to reduce the spread and we don't all have to become hermits to do it. Common sense folks...common sense.
Hell...do you know what I did 3 weeks ago? I was going to WalMart and I saw an old woman walking home from WalMart trying to carry her 2 bags of groceries. She was obviously totally spent and having great difficulty putting one foot in front of the other.
As I passed her I saw her fall and then try to get up and gather up her spilled groceries and start walking again. First thought through my head was "Oh crap, I gotta help her and that means I might be exposing myself to something which might be a big mistake"....but I turned around and went back to her and asked her how far she had to go...it was at least 2 more miles. I told her to get in and I would give her a ride home. So I did...and went and did my shopping and came home and promptly disinfected all the areas of my truck that she touched. THEN I made a special point to not go to my mom's house for 2 weeks...and when I did go to the store (once a week) I made an extra effort to cover my face and not touch anything that I didn't put in my shopping basket for 2 full weeks. Just in case....
I saw 3 people drive by that old woman when she fell and was on the ground before I could get turned around and back to her...3 people didn't even bother to stop at all.
I may have to RISE but I refuse to SHINE.
