What is going on?

Looks like it is being worked on right now.
I am checking some of the old IDs that showed 50 to 60 posts but when I go to see them they are all gone.
New ones keep popping up but getting zapped quickly.

I asked Carolyn a couple of weeks ago about captcha for new member registration and she said it was already in place.
I don't know about email verification as I didn't ask about that.
Something more needs to be done though. I know Johnny wanted to make it easy for people to post but 80 pages of spam is not acceptable either.

It also looks like what ever is going on, on the back end, is causing lag and issues with the system/server it self. There is definitely a slowdown in the time it's taking for the site to load - maybe with all veteran users deleting posts etc.

It is signing up new names again.

Also are we able to verify that there isn't any DOS attacking going on. Over top of the spam posts? It seams to me like the site is straining under the load of all this crap that's going on and i'm not 100% it's only posts and us deleting the spam etc.

Also any chance if this continues they'll look to upgrade some long time members to spam police with even higher privileges to kill this stuff faster?

It is back to nearly 20 posts a minute.

Page 1 and 2 is spam and by time I post this page 3 will be spam so it looks like it's starting back up. There are a whole lot of infected computers being used for this, as Bots in a botnet.

Can we tell if the posts are all coming from different IP addresses? Not that they can't be spoofed anyway.

It still could be one (insert your best colorful metaphor here) with a bunch of fancy scripts blasting the forum to smithereens.

Like I said earlier all I got was a radio button when I created a new user ID earlier today so if captcha had been in place there in the past it was missing earlier today.

Well, it's a helluva mess right now and last I counted was up to 10 pages of spam in just a few minutes.
I got better things to do than fight this garbage and waste my time. So I am outta here for a while.

I heard from Carolyn...all I got was that she had to get IT on it and a large amount was removed but he's back again and creating new IDs again....so IT needs to do some more work to fix whatever they need to fix to block this crap.

If they could just disable new account creation for now it would probably stem this flood

Ya - you can still see all the new member accounts that were created just recently.

I'm going to take a break and go get some RL stuff done. This issue can't be fixed by the likes of me and my little delete button.
