There's no captcha, recaptcha, email verification or anything on the signup page. Just a radio button last time I checked.

I run a basic phpbb board and I allow posts by unregistered guests and I don't get any spam posts anymore. A few lines of code adds a check box that the spam bots don't know needs to be checked but it plainly tells guests to check the box...and if they don't it allows them to try again and again without losing their post....but it won't post until they check that box.

It has worked 100% for years.

Edit: I see that they register first. I also have registration defense system, but they are really good at registering, so eventually I gave up and turned on email verification and administrative approval. Spam sucks

Ya I'm trying to delete them as fast as I can as well - we're not looking at 80 pages worth any more but it's still coming in strong.

Carolyn got rid of a bunch of users. But there are still more. I think it stopped signing up new ones for now. The last new name has not change for awhile.

maybe just figure out a way to block all posts that are non English characters.
