Looks like it finally shows leak data. I literally just turned on the machine, disconnected my mask and let it blow full blast for 5 minutes even. It showed 40 AHI, and I got Mr. Frowny face on the sleep report.

Thank you so much for taking the time to satisfy my curiosity about how the half assed brick reports the little bit of data that it gathers.
Looks like it will give a 95% number if things are bad enough for at least some of the time.
At least it is reporting something in terms of leak. Better than nothing..but just barely..

Again...thank you.

You're most welcome. I know palerider wasn't a fan. But I think this thread really shows how much this machine is really lacking, with hard photographic evidence. Its definitely eye opening to say the least.

Just glad I was able to help out, and holy hell I'm so excited to get my autoset. I also plan to take these images into my followup appointment in July to show the doctor just how awful this model is. Even if my doctor is not interested, I personally know the other doctor in his office, and I will definitely get with him and show him. He was the first person I consulted when the DME told me: "all the doctors care about is AHI."

As I continue to learn more about xPAP and sleep apnea, if I end up half as knowledgeable as you, I'd call that a good start. So in reality, thank you!

we knew it was lacking, what the thread shows is that it's not a completely, totally worthless piece of shit, just 98% worthless (which is what I figured it was, like the machine it replaced)

I disagree with calling the AirSense 10 CPAP model a "brick." If you're stuck with an A10 CPAP, there is some very useful data there, DON'T ignore the data it DOES provide.

It's still an amazing piece of technology with useful data. It's criminal that they throw away some of the potentially life-saving data, but what they do provide is still useful. If we call it a brick, those who are stuck with it may not use the data it does provide.

On the other hand, we DO need to get the word out to avoid it to those who haven't made their purchase yet, or who might be able to arrange an exchange.

you're welcome to be wrong...

it's just as much of a brick as the old escape auto was.

and should be avoided just as vigorously.

Lowsats, can you edit the title with the model number or something so people won't think this thread is about ALL ResMed Airsense models? Is there anything that will help newbies distinguish this brick from the other great models???

It's much less of a brick than the Escape, Respironics Plus, Respironics SE, DS250/260, or many other "true" bricks.

With a true brick, your treatment can be completely ineffective and your data will indicate nothing.

With the "semi-brick," you'll at least get an AHI number. Most problems with your therapy will show up in the data and can be seen remotely by your doctor.

The full data machines will give you or a competent doctor enough information to actually diagnose and treat most treatment problems remotely with the SD card. Unfortunately, most sleep docs aren't competent, and they probably won't look at more than the AHI number anyway and will just send you in for an additional $leep te$t.

Yes, the "real" fully data capable machines are the only choices a competent doctor would allow, but if you're stuck with a semi-brick, you CAN and SHOULD use the data it provides, at least until you can get a good CPAP machine.

And yes, you absolutely SHOULD fight to get a real fully capable CPAP machine. Or pay for one out of pocket if you must.

But if you have an Escape Auto or A10 CPAP, there is useful data there.

You really have to wonder WHO in the management chain is responsible for these "bricks", half-assed-bricks, etc.
Every time they make a different "model", it would involve more manufacturing and inventory nonsense than is necessary.

Memo to ResMed and Philips/Respironics..........(for the umpteenth time).

STOP with the non-data-capable or limited data-capable machines or even the fixed pressure models.
Just narrow the inventory to the APAP models which are capable of fixed pressure and provide full and complete data.

You just MIGHT save some manufacturing costs which will add to your bottom line.

JMFO, but aren't these dumb machines specified by dealers who have financial interest in sleep labs?

If the number of models was fewer, the costs should be lower and could be sold to the dealers for less......which could still be beneficial to the manufacturers, dealers and everyone else.

But . . . kickbacks on unnecessary sleep tests?
This can be the only reason for the existence and demand for these piles of feces.

But, in the "real world" (outside of the forums like this one), the vast majority of users don't know or care about whether they can get data from machines or can monitor or tweak their own therapy........or question their sleep doctors or DMEs.
They're led to believe that tampering with the settings on THEIR OWN machines is "illegal". For the most part, we get a more inquisitive class of users here.......or we manage to educate them that way.
How many times do we see posts from individuals ("Guest" or new members) who ask questions about their machine or their mask or some other part and don't put forth any information about what specific make or model they're using or have any idea what their settings are?
The DMEs and doctors will still try to keep their patients and customers in the dark regardless of how sophisticated their machines are.

Absolutely, I'd be happy to. just tell me what you'd like it to say and I'll change it. I agree with you and wouldn't want someone to get confused. Just not sure how to distinguish. Maybe "Airsense 10 non Autoset CPAP only?"

Let me know
