Well, after dinner I made the trip to a closer West Marine store about 10 mins. from my house. Finally found the place and they were out of it. He said he could check the other local stores, but I declined and will just wait for my delivery that I placed this morning. In the future, I will order from them with FREE delivery!!! Wish I had known that this morning, but my bad for not doing my homework before I ordered.
Moogy, if you get yours before I get mine, please let us know what you think.

Scuba mask glue & silicone sheet for tapers????
Ken....just wondering...do you think this stuff would work for tapers if spread on a piece of food grade silicone sheet and placed over the lips. I'm thinking you might be able to cut an oval to fit over the mouth and then apply a thin layer around the edge of the oval and around the lips. The silicone could be washed and reused. The silicone sheets are rather expensive largely due to the fact that one has to buy it in quantity.
Faced with the choice between changing one's mind and proving that there is no need to do so, almost everyone gets busy on the proof.....Galbraith's Law
Re: Scuba mask glue & silicone sheet for tapers????
I'd be very surprised if that worked. There's so much water around the mouth that the glue would not be able to stay "set". But what the heck - it's worth a try.krousseau wrote:do you think this stuff would work for tapers if spread on a piece of food grade silicone sheet and placed over the lips.
I did the "tape thing" last night for the first time and it was amazing how much it changed my readings but was very uncomfortable. Maybe after a night or two more I'll get used to it.
good luck!

First, Yay Ken for bravely testing this glue!!!
And what a great idea to connect them with cpap.com!
There is a Wests a little over an hour from me. Store finder says they don't carry it now, but I'll call them and ask them to get it in.
I wonder (and hope) that this might not only handle those pesky leaks but also help me keep from taking the mask off while I'm sleeping. That would be great.
I think after I try it I'll call the sleep doc about it. I think it would have helped me on my second night of testing if the mask in the lab had not leaked all night and made rude noises and blasted my eyes with air as they played with the pressures. Seems like this is a natural for a sleep lab to keep on hand.
Come on Marine sports seize the opportunity for a whole new market!

I tried it last night (another brand - Trident - but same kind of stuff) and it works great!
Try your local dive shops, the first one I called had it for 5.95.
I use the med. nasal pillows on the CL2 but think I'll be able to step up to the large for the better airflow. Before, the larges tended to slip out of my nares. I bet they stay in with this stuff.
Great find! Ought to be a part of everyone's tool kit.

So what's been happening in glue land? Mine is due to arrive tomorrow, just in time to try it out with the new Ultra Mirage ff mask I bought that arrived today. Have you been using yours still and, if so, how has it been working?
Moogy,
When is yours due to arrive? Did you also order it from 123Scuba?

I bought mine from a local dive store. I must have a really oily face/nose, because my mask started to leak half way through the night. I do wash my mask daily and my face at night as well. I think it is a wise idea to try it though. My dive store said others had come in asking for the same product for cpaps!
Hi all - I've been out of town for a bit of a trip and had my first "road" experience with the whole system.
the glue continues to be a life-saver for me. Here's what I've found I have to do.
1) Clean face and mask well (using soap) each night.
2) apply thin coverage of glue to nose and mask.
3) Get mask set carefully and leave it alone for a couple of minutes. I've actually taken to doing this in front of a mirror so that all of the angles are correct.
4) sleep like a baby.
Now - I do occasionally have a rotten night and last night was one of those BUT I can remember waking up for a second in the night and wondering why I didn't have my mask on but IT WAS ON! - I was so totally comfortable that it just seemed natural and one of those factors is that the pillows hadn't moved.
I'm going to try a bit thicker amount tonight and see what happens.
Stay tuned! -
Ken
PS - West Marine charges freight as well as 123Scuba.com so 123Scuba is still the best way to get it unless you have a store near you.
Also - I've not heard a thing from CPAP.com so I'm supposing that they're not interested.

Ken,
Thanks for the update. One more night without it for me. Hopefully it will arrive on time tomorrow.
Moogy,
Sounds like it couldn't come at a better time for you. They send you out a notice from the shipper when it finally does ship.
I called another West Marine near me and they said none of their stores here on Long Island actually carry it as an in-stock item, but I could order. I told him I already had from another place, but...so I guess it's just an item that most of us can't walk into a store and buy off the shelf.

Hey gang - just a quick update. I've gradually been increasing the amount of "glue" that I use and have gotten to the point where it's really working almost every night. I'm now using a "dollop" on each pillow and not worrying about whether or not I put some on the nose. A dollop can be defined as about a smidge! -- hee hee.... actually - it's about the size of a very small baby pea - the one that refuses to go on the fork no matter what you do.
One other thing that has made life much better with my mask (CL2) is to move the upper straps to the very top connectors and wear the headstrap very low on the back of my head. It seems ever so much more stable.
I'm still struggling to find the "sweet spot" with pressure settings. I'm finding that I have much more tolerance to higher pressures now and start out at 12 with an upper limit of 14. I'm actually considering that 12 is my best pressure though and I may just try that some night. The nice part about all of this is that there are SO many things to try and the software tells me what works and what doesn't.
Happy "Almost May Day" to you all.
