I purchased a bottle of "Tincture of Benzoin" at my local CVS here in Hicksville. It was in the back of the shelf, but they had it. Also, Rite-Aid ordered one for me. Impatient, I went across the street and lucked out.

IT WORKS G R E A T !!!!
Is half the price of the marine mask sealer, in addition to getting much more.

The pharmacist told me that guitarist use it also - for sticky fingers.

Just as a follow-up, I told 123scuba.com about my situation with the Sports Seal Marine Glue coming in melted. They sent me another for free. That one, too, came in melted.

Well, they are very reputable. They provided me an RA number and told me to return it for a full refund, including s/h. I don't know if I'll bother, but it was nice of them to back up their product. I just don't think you can purchase it if you have to have it sent, only directly from the store.

I am going to look for the benzoin tincture. Thanks, offerocker. My CVS said they didn't carry it but could order it, so maybe I'll ask them to.

Glad I could be of help, Restless

I've used it 3 nights now, and WHAT A DIFFERENCE! It is amazing.

The pharmacist told me that it would discolor my skin. I now believe he was joking, as there's been absolutely NO residue; I don't even feel anything on my skin in the morning, as I did with the Marine Seal (Hmm sounds like a USMC-Navy game, huh) .

Prior to hearing about the tincture, I had ordered 3 tubes of the MS; they weren't 'melted', but I could tell that the tubes didn't seem to be FULL' - I placed the remaining 2 in the refrigerator. Maybe in the fall or winter, someone may want them????

It's good news to hear that 123scuba is a good company "after the sale".

P.S. I believe the tincture of Benzoine cost me $1.20 !!! May have been old stock, but it still works. Some stores only carry 1-2 at a time due to lack of requests, but it only takes up 1" on shelf space.

I've been applying mine with a cotton-tipped stick (JUST TRY to avoid using the word "Q-tip, ha ha), and it works great. I'm fairly liberal, but not to the point of dripping.

Good luck, and tell Frank I said HI!!

Just for the record, Tincture of Benzoine is where I have ended up as well. I put it on a bit before I'm going to put on my mask to let it dry and it becomes just "tacky" enough to keep the mask in place.

I decided not to use it last night and fought with my mask all night until finally giving up on it about 3AM so that I could get some sleep!

It's far superior to the face mask glue and is way way less expensive. I don't remember what I paid for it but I've got about enough in one little bottle to last me into the year 3000.

Ken,

Isn't it amazing what those "ten-cent remedies" are actually worth?!!

I was about to use the 'tacky-putty" stuff used to hold sheets of paper on the wall. I'd already tried tape.

I would NEVER have known about thie existence of this product, had it not been for this Forum.

Any "Newbies" out there: READ, READ, READ!!!

Offerocker,

When you said to say hi to Frank, are you talking about the pharmacist at CVS by me? It can't possibly be unless you're psychic...

Absolutely is. One word of caution that occured to me after I'd posted. For those of you using nasal pillows be careful NOT to get the benzoin on the inside of the nostril - not because it will harm anything but it's so tacky that it won't let the top of the pillow into the interior of the nostril and that makes for quite a wrestling match!

Yes - in the white corner tonight we have our favorite - Comfortlite Pillows and in the red corner we have Tincture of Benzoine. It's going to be quite a match tonight folks and I know you're all sitting on the edge of your seats waiting for it to get started.....

ok, ok - back to work.

He grinned and said it might be hard to find, that CVS doesn't carry it. It's something, according to him, you don't hear being asked much for anymore. He said he could order it and have it by Monday probably, if I wanted to, but to try this "mom and pop" pharmacy down the road to see if they might still carry it.

You didn't ask any question re the two quotes you put up.
Are you trying to put me on the spot re Frank? No, I'm not psychic - I just thought they ALL were named "Frank". ..because I've had such good luck with pharmacists - they are very frank and forthcoming with valid information. It is GOOD to get to know your pharmacist well! They can protect you from lots of mistakes/misinformation.

Offerocker,
I noticed that, too. I find this happens quite often on this site. There is someone here who highlights different points in threads, makes a new post and that's it. It always leaves me asking, "And your point was?"

I don't understand the reason for this, either. I looked to the bottom of the screen to see if there was a follow-up post by the same author saying something about leaving something off the prior post by accident. Go figure!

Clarification: Frank is my local neighborhood pharmacist at CVS. He is just what they portray their pharmacists like on their commecials, very helpful and kind. I probably should have let Frank order the benzoin tincture as I just got back from picking it up on special order at a local mom & pop type pharmacy in town and they charged me $7.51 for 2 oz. He said it should be $9 and change, but he couldn't figure out how to change the price on the register, stating that they don't carry this product anymore and it's an old price in the computer. Geesh, isn't $7.51 enough?

But we won't complain now, will we (perhaps I just did???). I will give it a try tonight and see how things go. Kind of fun having new things to try with treatment after all this time that aren't as expensive as buying new masks.

$7.00!!!!

Lori,

I only paid about 2.23 for mine - it must be REALLY OLD!

I just called the Rite-Aiid pharmacy where I've ordered it; seems like there are different kinds - the one I HAVE is a COMPOUND.
the R_A drug store has multiple kinds/sources of this stuff, and she couldn't tell me from where mine was ordered. It also comes in a spray, which I wouldn't want.
Also advised to call the 'Healthy Grocer' - it's used as a topical antiseptic and astringent, holds gauze bandages on, etc..... IT DOES STINK though, but not enough to keep me awake.

I'll let you know about prices, although you may not need another for awhile, but it's always good to know!

Kathleen
