Hey Rested Gal,

As a newer member here, I want to thank you for posting links to the above discussions. Being that I'm old, tired and have no life, I had time to go and read the them. It definitely put THIS thread (and recent similar ones) into perspective for me.

This thread, the comments, multiple identities and any other shenanigans going on right now -- are tame in comparison. They're just not worth getting one's panties in a bunch over.

So, I am officially unbunching my panties and getting back to what's important.

As you can see from the posts on that thread (and many older ones on the same topic), there will probably never be categories on this forum. It's been a VERY much debated topic. Some folks are EXTREMELY passionate about leaving it the way it is. Although at one time I leaned slightly in the direction of having a few categories, there is just something about this forum that works best, I think, just the way it is.

I understand and agree that when you use "search" you sometimes get what seem like a million posts on the topic. If you're sleep deprived and frustrated, it can seem overwhelming. What I did in that circumstance is just post my question even though it may have been answered before.

Pam
I have a question pertaining to searches. Instead of categories can the search function be tweaked to combine keywords instead one word here and another there? It would make serching for a specific piece of information a lttle easier I think.

Wow. Gotta say that I've been greatly consternated for the past several days about what I'm reading here about the double or multiple identities being posted on this forum. And have to admit that as a two-year dedicated reader/poster, I have been totally naive to most of this, and am totally disillusioned about what I'm reading.

So it appears that some of our regular members circle the wagons around a few "special" people, but we also have forum history of vicious attacks on others who have entered alternate "secret" or guest identities which everyone seems to pile onto??

Come on folks! For those of you who have been here for a few years--- how would you feel to learn that such trusted identities as rested gal, sws, ozij, wulfman, or others you and I have consistently trusted to provide trusted answers, have been posting under another name and degrading you or others or making fun of your concerns, or deflecting posters to some trivial topic?

I'm totally stunned at the double standard. I think we need some fess-up details from jnk and "really" and others involved in this kind of scamming. Sorry. I respect what jnk contributes. But the duplicity doesn't cut it for me. I think it frankly sucks if everyone isn't on board to see through it. "Inside PM's "such as ozij referred to, are not justification and rationalization for me. But I am clearly not on the "inside track."

Hi plr66

Great post. Now be prepared to be called paranoid, shameful, suspicious, just an opinion, be nitpicked, diverted, minimised, vilified etc. But will your main concerns be adequately and truthfully deal with - I doubt it.

But Pm's can work both ways, and I would say that the majority of this Forum are aware of the double standards and hypocrisy of these older members, but do not wish to engage in challenging them.

Having watched Muffy gratuitously attack cpap members, and be defended by the 4 older members, the double standards were there to see. But if we have a mindset that someone is "good", then our own mind often ignores evidence that our original belief is wrong, or partly wrong. But the hypocrisy is so consistent that is is now easier to see, and accept.

Just read some of the threads I have been attacked on. It is all there. Here is one -

I felt betrayed, especially by Ozij. And I learned that -SWS is not so logical and rational as some like to think. So I came to accept that double standards prevailed, and also that some people had access to forum information that the rest of us do not.

And thank goodness that most of us aren't. The greater majority of Forum members are good honest folks.

But because of the esteem that these older members are held, some other members of the Forum support them, and think something is wrong with the person challenging them. It can be tiresome to be continually condemned and misunderstood, but it also lets me know where I stand, which is good. I can now laugh at some of the sanctimonious sentiments I read, which I know are just hypocritical bullshit; and some will be fooled, and others, who have read the appropriate posts, will see the bullshit clearly.

Your post, plr66, is the best that this thread has seen.

cheers

Seriously. I would prefer, if possible, that the queries not be in the form of a lengthy diatribe for me to respond to, but if you can ask one straightforward question at a time, I'll try to tell you anything you want to know as simply and honestly as I can. Not that anyone will trust me. And that's fine. But I'll give it my best shot. Fire away. Just ask.

Could you come up with a better example? Since I would stake my life that those members would never do that, I find it difficult to answer your hypothetical question.

Muffy, Not Muffy, Really, Really Ugly, Banned, Who, Guest, and any other poster who uses a dual identity on this forum,

I see no harm in posting under different screen names as long as there is civility in your words. It is never right to use a public forum to chastise and belittle others, even if you think that it is deserved. I read this forum everyday and occasionally have some advice for people who are seeking answers that I have a little knowledge on. Some of what I have read from these alter egos leads me to believe that you have no respect for others who may not be as knowledgeable or that have apposing views. My specific question that Muffy is asking plr66 is; Why do you need to use an alternate identity to be rude to people? What makes your opinion any better than someone else’s? What right do you have to be a bully? This is a public forum and I believe that everyone should be respectful of each individual here and instead of insulting someone; just either post your point of view respectfully or not at all. My mom always said “if you can’t say something nice then don’t say anything at all.

I once thought that too, ST. I learned otherwise, though, in my case. People got hurt. People felt duped (no pun intended) and lied to. People's feelings matter. So, I've learned it's not a good idea, whatever the motivation or how civil your words are.

I just thought you might want my learned (or, in-the-process-of-being-learned) perspective, Sleepy Taz. I still respect your perspective, though.

Every BBS/Forum, if it lasts long enough, develops a clique. Those within the clique will always "circle the wagons" to protect/defend one another regardless of the behavior being questioned.

As with all social interactions, you either accept it or move on.

There is too much to benefit from here to be "put off" by these silly contretemps.
