Encore does not detect my smartcard reader lil help please

Post by SLPYHED » Tue Sep 13, 2005 8:24 pm

I discontinued using my Remstar APAP until I could get up and running with the Encore Pro data. A very nice individual sent me a copy of the Encore Pro and I purchased the infineer smart card reader from 2factors.com I downloaded the software and created a patient...me and then downloaded the driver for the 3500 reader. When I try to read the data from the smartcard I get a cannot connect to device message.

Are there specific drivers that I need to download from the Resperonics website?

I really want to resume my APAP usage , but I need to have the data to fine tune my treatment.

Can anyone help?

Thank you in advance

Slpyhed, I'm not techie enough to help you. Until someone replies directly about your problem, perhaps you can find something in the these discussion links that will help.

Slpyhed -

Just this afternoon went through this very same thing, and I had to go into Windows Control Panel / Add-Remove Programs / Smart Card Reader Software and remove the driver, then reinstall it from the CD. Had no problem after that. HTH .

Slpyhed, did you ever go to this site to get the drivers for the reader?

"setup.exe" drivers file URL to drivers for the Mako card reader on "sleepyman's" website.

I don't believe the drivers that are on the CD that comes with the Mako card reader from 2factors.com will make it work with the Smart Card. I *think* you'll need the drivers sleepyman graciously put up on his site.

You asked about the Respironics site. If the version of Encore Pro you're using is version 1.3, and if you haven't already gone here:

Respironics software update center for Encore Pro

You'll need to go to the Respironics site to download and install this free upgrade to your Encore Pro. Download and install only this one to get 1.3 upgraded to 1.4:

SLPYHED,

You've got a LOT of nerve!
You're trying to install "BOOTLEGGED" (not legally purchased) software on your computer and then asking for help (posting on TWO forums) from users who HAVE purchased legal software and who have ours up and running. Maybe the "very nice individual" who sent you the copy of the software can help you. It's not that hard to install if you follow the directions (which you probably don't have). If you didn't install it according to the instructions, there are numerous things that can be wrong with your setup and why it isn't working. You wanted to save money, but you're wasting everybody's time (which IS money) trying to save yours.

WHOA!!!! Hey, "Guest"--

Talk about nerve! SLPYHED is not wasting anybody's time by asking a question, except apparently yours.

Having questions about anything to do with CPAP is why we're all here in the first place!! Sheesh!!!

Wow! I am very sorry that I affended you and wasted your time as you say. The software is not a bootleg copy as you so jumped to the conlusion that it was. the VERY NICE PERSON did not have any use for the software and gave it to me since she switched from Remstar over to the P&B auto. Maybe my use of the word copy was misconstrude. I don't have a problem with buying the software, but it was offered to me as a nice gesture. Kind of like when I and many others donated masks and other equiptment to Katrina victims. Being nice is not that hard.

My hope for you is that you sleep well and get well. That's all I want.

I am having problems with my COMPUTER and with my lack of knowledge in using it.

How does that shoe taste right about now GUEST?

Please don't jump to conclusions.

Forgive and forget.

Slpyhed,
Actually, I too had concerns because your post implied that you were using a pirated copy of Encore Pro. I am responding now on the understanding that you have transfered the licence from the previous owner.

The following assumes that youo are using Windows XP, although you should be able to do the same thing using an earlier OS.

The first thing to do is chaeck whether the SmartCard driver is in fact installed and is recognized by your computer. You need to open the Device Manager.

Go to Start -> Settings -> Control Panel and select System. Then click on the Hardware tab abd select Device Manager.

Look down the list for Smart card readers. If it's not there you have not installed it properly. If it is there, click on the +, and you should see the list expand to see Mako DT3500 SmartCard Reader.
Agan, if it is not there you have a problem. Double-click on the icon and a new window should open. Look at Device status, and it should say "This device is working properly".

Have you tried unplugging and plugging in the reader? Does the computer recognize it with a message when you plug it in the USB port?

Let us know if you get this far.

Good for you SLPYHED......if only others can be so lucky as yourself to be able to get a copy of ANY software....and I don't care who is the owner.!!!

But what i don't understand what the difference what you use the cared reader for it's just another device your adding to your computer....why should you have to install EncorePro ( or as a matter of fact any software) before installing drivers for a perticular device for your computer...?

Ramblinman,

The way it works with the card reader is, you have to first install the EncorePro software. Then before you connect the card reader to the computer, you have to install the drivers. If I'm figuring this out right, I would imagine there are other types of readers you could use with the software and it needs to know beforehand which one you'll be plugging in so it will work when you do. That is an important thing to remember when you do your installation soon (think we've talked about this before, you and I).

When it comes to software, you're probably better off not trying to figure out the "why"s of everything, but just the "how"s. Less troublesome that way.

And it takes a lot to get Yawn angry...

Don't let this pesron get you upset. Like they told me, it's their problem. You don't have to feed into it. I know how you feel, believe me. You are a helper and this type of attitude you can't tolerate. But it's not worth getting yourself upset over it. We need to just turn our backs and walk away and feel sorry for "Guest" who has all that anger pent up inside that he/she feels he/she needs to take it out on the innocent people of this site.

Sorry you got so upset, Amy. Don't give it another thought, though.
