You're exactly right on 2 counts Lori. It does take alot to get me that upset and, I should (and will) turn my back on people like "Guest" (although I've never had a guest in my house act as poorly as this guest). You're right...I do feel sorry for him...he must not have any friends with that kind of attitude.

I better quit before I get P.O.'d again....

I could feel it coming.

I'm glad you will just turn and walk away next time. Like everyone told me, you shouldn't take the bait as it does nothing but raise your BP and get you angry. And, chances are, we should feel sorry for this person as people without problems in their lives have no reason to act like this. Must be acting out for a reason. And, hey, there are so many wonderful people to talk with on this site that the one bad apple shouldn't ruin the batch. Keep smiling!

Ah, that guest probably has a personality disorder brought on by extreme sleep deprivation with an underlying cause of sleep apnea. Pity them, and hope they can get the treatment they so badly need so that they can move away from the dark side.

Thanks to you all I just got the software and the drivers to be nice to each other and now I am up and running. Now all I have to do is learn how to use the darn thing.

Thank you all again for the help!!!

Don't worry about the guest meanie.

I like that! Very cute.

And I'm glad you're up and running. Now instead of posting how-to questions on the software and card reader installation, you can post how-to questions on what the various things on the software do and mean (LOL).

Take a lesson from me (learned the hard way). Don't get obsessed by the numbers. It's easy to do once you have the capability to see them all. But, like the intelligent, savvy users on this site drilled into my head, the overall best guide to go by is how you feel, not what the numbers say.

Have fun!!!

Slpyhed.....was the card reader $24 with $6 shipping or $20 Fedex? Did it take long to get? Thanks...that looks like maybe a winner.

sthnreb,

If you're talking about the card reader from 2factors.com, http://www.2factors.com/index.php?sp=&p ... s=&lang=en I got that one, too, and it was $24 with $6 s/h. When you choose the basic shipping, it arrives in a week. It came all the way from Hong Kong to my home in New York in just one week. Works great, saved me money. The above link will take you to the one you need to order.

Thanks, Lori. It's to late for me, I ordered the package for $200 but looked at that and think it's a great deal. I thought it came from Hong Kong and wondered if there were any shipping problems. They also have the smart cards. It appears they are the manufactures of the readers to begin with, Mako. It's good to know in case someone I know needs one. I saw where it was mentioned swapping the registration for the Encore. When I got mine from Cpap, I never saw anywhere to register it to begin with? So, still wondering how you swap the registration. Maybe I should register mine if I knew how. Just an ignert old sleepy guy.

Actually it was transferring the license. Still don't know how one does that. Unless it's just passing the software from one to another?

I legitimately acquired mine through purchase from cpap.com and I still never had to register, or didn't know to. So how do you transfer software licenses if someone hasn't registered it to begin with?

A good question. I have no idea. I purchased mine through Cpap also for the $200 combo, software/reader. I've never registered it or saw anywhere that you should. Who would you register it with? Respironics? They don't even supply support unless you are a physician, dealer, or sleep clinic. Respironics told me that or similar. (no support for individuals) I guess I will continue using mine unregistered if I ever get my machine back from repairs.

[ Go to Start -> Settings -> Control Panel and select System. Then click on the Hardware tab abd select Device Manager.

Look down the list for Smart card readers. If it's not there you have not installed it properly. If it is there, click on the +, and you should see the list expand to see Mako DT3500 SmartCard Reader.
Agan, if it is not there you have a problem. Double-click on the icon and a new window should open. Look at Device status, and it should say "This device is working properly".

Have you tried unplugging and plugging in the reader? Does the computer recognize it with a message when you plug it in the USB port?
In my case, the answer to all the above except for the very last question is YES.

[Steps I've taken so far:

1. Installed EncorePro (1 disk only, purchased just a few weeks ago from cpap.com) It comes up OK, let me add a patient, etc.

2. Found the Smart Card Driver file and ran the setup program (only program there). It appeared to install something, at one point giving selection of USB and PMCIA (I chose just USB) and then prompted me to reboot.

3. After rebooting, plugged card read (from 2factors) into USB port and waited eagerly...nothing.

4. Unplugged and replugged into 2nd USB port. Some sort of message flashed up on the screen, but before I get up off the floor from plugging in the reader again, it was gone.

5. Repeated step 4 in hopes of getting a glimpse at the message, but it didn't show up this time.

6. Nothing happens when I put the CD that came with the 2factors card reader in the CD drive.

Now what?

Should I have downloaded something from Sleepyman?
Should I have chosen PMCIA (?) also?
Is there something I should do with the CD that came with the 2factors cardreader?

Gracie,

You can kick me if this is too elementary, but did you try to load the card into the reader, double click on your name as the patient to take you to the next screen and then choose "Download Data" from the left side? At that point you choose "Smart Card Reader."

Okay. That was my only thought, that maybe you didn't take yourself to the correct next step. Sorry if you did and I'm just asking a stupid question.

More details of where I'm at:

In Control Panel/System/Hardward, I click on the Mako DT3500, the following information (or lack thereof) is displayed:

Device type:
Manufacturer: Mako
Hardware version: Not available
Device status: This device is working properly
Device usage: Exists in all hardware profiles
Driver provider: Mako
Driver date: 3/12/2003
Digital signer: Not signed

Then there are two buttons, one offering Driver File Details and the other Update Driver.
