Answer: Secret Family Recipejennmary wrote:I have to say this. I usually hate the smell of mint. I can smell someone chewing minty gum from easily 10 feet away and it makes me gag. I use arm and hammer toothpast because it is the least minty to me. But I LOVE clear. I dont know what it is. It is the first minty type smell I have been able to stand.
Believe it or not, I don't tolerate straight Peace well--It keeps me up. A drop with the others does the trick.
Y'all have a lot to look forward to with the other flavors:
Fresh (tangerine & lime) - I had a lady buy 20 bottles the other day. She must like it. A lot. It's much less intense and persistent than Spice. Just a touch of lime with a little lavender, too.
Creme (real vanilla) - this one is a treat but it's not a true EO (though it's labeled that way to me). Real vanilla EO is extremely expensive. This is a tenfold oleoresin extract--ten times more powerful than real baking vanilla. There's a small amount of alcohol solvent, just enough to keep it liquid (or the oleoresin would be very thick. This blends very well with Clear (mint-creme), Spice (orange-cream), and ylang-ylang (Paradise), which already has a vanilla-like aroma.
Deep (lime & basil) - This is actually the first one I developed. It's not for everyone but many people like it. It is quite relaxing. I'm thinking about reformulating this the next time labels are printed . . . . maybe lime and grapefruit instead of the basil.
Rosa (rose geranium & palmarosa) - real rose EO is extraordinarily expensive but this blend is very close. Both EOs have historically been used to blend with real rose EO because the smells are so close. It's not very intense but is persistent.
Comfort (sweet marjoram & lavender) - if there were ever a blend that I personally consider to be therapeutic, this is it. Wow. Real sweet marjoram is very expensive and in folklore, has a longstanding reputation of being helpful in sleep. Many "aromatherapy" sites claim it as a cure for snoring. Of course there's no real science backing up any of this for marjoram, but it has a pleasant smell and blends well with lavender, which does enjoy some scientific backing for helping sleep. Anyway, whenever I feel like I need 8 hours of flat-out sleep and want to wake up bounding out of bed, I use Comfort. It works for me, every time.
Paradise - Now this is the Crown Jewel. Few people have ever smelled authentic First Distillation Ylang Ylang. For most people, it's simply divine. It resembles vanilla but has a sweeter, more flower-like aroma. It's also extremely expensive. It's rather intense and persistent and does well in cpap.
Can you tell how much fun I've been having putting all of this together? I fondly call the nine oils my Sleeping Friends (pause as my wife rolls her eyes). I have a lot of fun deciding which one I'm going to use on any given night--it's very nice to have so many choices.
I think I've talked myself into Paradise tonight, maybe with a drop of Creme . . . .
