Adjusting For Weight Loss

Post by owleyes » Thu May 13, 2021 12:09 pm

I've been on cpap for almost 6 years. My weight was in the mid 170s, which is about 25 more that normal. I'm now 25 pounds lighter (not a huge difference, I know). But I'm wondering if my cpap needs may have changed. My machine is set to 15lbs, which I think is the max. I'm hoping a lower setting might be called for now. Can the Sleepyhead report show anything? I looked and didn't see anything, but frankly, I really don't know what to look for.

Thanks!

Most of us have quit using Sleepyhead and have switched over to OSCAR. The Sleepyhead developer has quit making any updates to it, but the OSCAR team continues to update OSCAR. The only way you can tell if you need less pressure is to lower your pressure and see how many events you have. Other than that you can try to request another titration study to determine your pressure needs.

Thanks for the info. I'll try Oscar.

I was going to try that last night, but I forgot there were two numbers (7 and 15). Does it make sense to change both at once, or just the higher or lower? I was thinking of trying 5 and 12. Does that seem reasonable?

And will the stats show if there's improvement, or do I have to determine that by my eyelids :| ?

Congratulations on the weight loss! I would suggest that once you're up and running with Oscar, you spend at least one night at your current settings and post the daily chart so we can take a look. From there it'll be trial and error, as Okie bipap has said.
Oscar software is available at https://www.sleepfiles.com/OSCAR/

no. we want the daily view.

sorta like this-

we'll want to see how your pressure is doing currently with it's battle against your events.

good luck!

Oh, and FYI - it's cm (of water), not lbs.

15 centimeters of water cannot blow up a balloon.
15 psi (pounds per square inch) will inflate a car tire.

Can you get rid of the snore and resp. rate graphs which aren't needed and shrink the others?

See above for examples of which graphs to include.

If you want to see if you could get by with less pressure by evaluating what the cpap machine does..
Change your minimum pressure to 10 cm and leave the max and 20 and see what happens. Normally we would suggest an even lower minimum but your current minimum is 15 and if you go a lot lower you may have trouble in terms of comfort with breathing at a lower setting. You may feel a bit stifled or suffocated. If you do at 10 cm...try 12 cm or whatever is less than 15 that is comfortable for you.

I'd like to re-post my chart, but I can't see what's missing.

There is no Flow Limit in my list.
