It is a shame that there isn't a way to put the trouble makers in time out. If there was a fair minded level headed person that could hit the timeout button after a certain number of hateful comments for a certain amount of days. I guess that would be a moderator of sorts so that won't work.

I truly had hoped that people would look at their behavior when they realized they had driven Pugsy, probably the best person active on this forum, away. I was stupid for believing that people would do that.

Hopefully Carolyn will lock this soon and life can continue, in whatever fashion, on this forum.

And therein lies the entire issue folks... why should a new person coming to this forum for help and support feel this way? What a stinking shame that a person should feel this way! After all, this is only a forum for people who have questions and need answers. Way to go!

It's the weekend; probably Carolyn will be back tomorrow. Yes, the thread needs to be locked or deleted, and I hope that behavior like this will end if we all report the offensive posts so that they will look into it before it continues.

Pugsy, if you're reading this, I'm with all the others with praise for your knowledge and the way you answer questions! We will truly miss you. It has been nearly 2 years since I came here for answers. I rarely come here anymore because I hate it to too, but fortunately, all of my questions have been answered, and problems solved. These days, my AHI usually numbers <3, usually ranges from 1.5 to 2.5. Farewell... for now, maybe you'll come back someday.

The owner has stated his position on moderation many times, as in the following example from 2007. And even though Johnny himself started the thread, people went on to discuss, argue, whine and suggest changes for 13 pages, much the same as contained in this and the other current threads on the subject. Yet nothing changed. Just as no changes resulted from the posting of numerous previous threads on the subject, no changes will result from this one either.

People come, people go, and the forum rolls on.

My approach to moderating cpaptalk is well known. Here's the basic rational:

Beware the person who wishes to legislate the morality and the behavior of his neighbor. Respect the person who accepts as responsibility, duty and sacred privilege the task of successfully moderating his own behavior. People who can do this are rare beacons of light. It is easy to point the finger "elsewhere" and imagine a utopia will result. It is hard to do the work and take responsibility to make your first utopia internal. Paraphrasing Ghandi - be the change you wish to see in the world.

There are no rules, no distant moderator, no respected member of the community that can legislate or moderate away our own foul dispositions. If this were not true, one of the many forms of government our forefathers have tried would have worked. For another example of the rhetoric used by people who advocate such a position, read literature from those favoring prohibition before its enactment. These people believed sincerely in their cause, they had good intentions and were good people but their actions were doomed to failure from the start.

How does all of that lofty philosophy play out in real life? In the most basic terms,
I'm trading value for value. I provide the domain, the hosting, the software and the moderation of CPAPtalk in accordance with my set of beliefs regarding human nature and business. You may use it free of charge, you may find a better board or you may start your own.

There will be no additional moderators on CPAPtalk. The core values of this board will continue to govern it. Love your neighbor and be a neighbor others can love.

Pugsy has been extraordinarily informative, patient and helpful for me over the last several years. She pointed me in the right direction when I needed a new machine and didn't have much money to spend. She sent me stuff that I needed in the mail. Her demeanor on this forum has always been good-natured and beyond reproach. I could go on, but I'm tired after working all day.

Guys, there's a nasty edge to the regulars here who do a lot of posting. If Pugsy can't stand it, think of how many others who perhaps never post have likewise been driven away. The mission of this site is to help and inform. Too many here demean, brawl and condescend. Seriously, it's the worst tempered site that I frequent.
