John, I really love this painting. What really caught my eye was how you captured the knot hole in the wood! Amazing!.

Oh, one more thing, IS WHAT'S HIS NAME KIDDING!! I'm going to need a trip to the dentist because my teeth are starting to hurt real bad!! I've always known John was a real gentleman but wonder when he'll reach his limit!

John, this water color:

Reminds me of this photo by my Internist who gave me a referral to Dr Paul C Peterson of Duke:

That's a pretty spectacular shot of an Iris. It can be pretty hard to capture the subtle shading of an iris.

Hope you found Dr. Peterson helpful. Not everyone does find his manner to their liking. He's pretty direct (doesn't pull any punches). But he's very knowledgeable and usually able to help folks sort out their sleep issues.

avi, put a sock in it, or more properly, unplug your keyboard!

JB can damn well paint anything he wants, and it is not your place, nor mine, nor anyone else, to tell, suggest, or even insinuate, what he ought to do.

I'm glad too. It's my understanding that if someone puts you on his Foe List he can't see your comments. I've addressed him directly and not so politely several times in the past and since he never responds to me I'm sure I'm on his list and he doesn't see my posts. He doesn't know what he's missing!

Life's too short to let something like his remarks bother me. And I'm having a grand time, so I don't worry if someone thinks I should head in another direction. I am learning. I am happy doing so. What more can anyone ask??

Reply,
John, there was a misunderstanding with Dr P. He took the referral from my Internist to carry out an OSA evaluation on me as being a first appointment for me with a Sleep Doc and Dr P spent almost an hour with me. But Medicare paid only half his claim. So I am sort of embarrassed to contact him again. Besides, I read somewhere that they are reducing staff over there. Yes, I have found him very knowledgeable. After I told him that I think that I got the OSA 3 years ago together the Peripheral Neuropathy he asked me if anyone around checked the reasons for it. I said that I was told by other neurologists that the reasons could be idiopathic. He sort of did not agree with it and said that there must be reasons. Well, I found it interesting.

BTW, I asked you about your opinion on the last two paintings, above, b/c they belonged to my wife and my collection which we decided to sell them in a recent auction. Well, we were surprised at the much higher hammer prices of these two compared to other conventional paintings. I mention it in spite of knowing that we are not talking about prices in this thread. Just enjoying spending a good time sketching and painting.

I think AVI means well. He is a little different than most of us but I see him as intelligent and well meaning most of the time. I think he just marches to a different drummer.

Exactly. I used to work with a lot of engineers, who - if you did not understand their personality - were often very difficult to work with. But if you understood that as an engineer they see things rather differently (often in more black and white than real life allows), you soon understand their passion for the best solution is often mistaken for inflexibility. That's how AVI impresses me. He's passionate about things. That sometimes leads others to mistake is posts as provocative. (Oh, there's some of that, but I don't mind it personally. As I noted, I'm having fun doing what I'm doing.)

Congratulations to her. That's a big step forward. I'm not planning on selling any of my pictures in the near future. Some will become presents. And that's a good enough use for these paintings. After all as you note, I'm having a blast doing the sketching and painting.

It's time to add a new skill set ... Urban Sketching ... Capturing life as it is, where we live it. This takes the concept of landscape painting and moves it into the urban setting. As my skill with sketching and painting increases, I will try to replicate the style of sketching that I see with Urban Sketchers. It's a wonderful blend of pen & ink with watercolor. Here's hoping you enjoy.
