Awesome what the curious mind can do. Sleep labs will NOT be happy.

Yea. I'm all for getting rid of the sensors. IMO That's why most people hate the sleep tests. I'd be especially cool if they could set up the imaging device in your bedroom, then one could eliminate the whole sleep lab experience.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

But ... will it measure brain waves to know if your asleep or not? What stage?
Still seems like it would need to attached toy your head, so the patient could move around, turn over ...

Just put on something like a Melon EEG headband. Why not?

Cool idea, nice patient-oriented paradigm shift. I like it, there's a lot of money in sleep studies that can drive research like this.
Maybe they can figure out a less intrusive way to keep one's airway open than CPAP at some point, too.

That would be nice. Trying a "million" masks to find the right one is really getting old.RogerSC wrote:Cool idea, nice patient-oriented paradigm shift. I like it, there's a lot of money in sleep studies that can drive research like this.

The cynical sleep deprived part of me wonders if there will be incentive for this type of research since sleep centers are currently very profitable.

Re: OT: a-better-way-to-test-for-sleep-apnea
Since often only C4-A2 and C3-A1 are used (and some others in the area) I have often thought a head band could be designed looking something like my bluetooth head phones (Go Grove Airband) which would contain and place the pads and have wireless communication back to data gathering unit. The user could be taught to use the band himself during a "sleep testing" class.Sir NoddinOff wrote:I hope they make a better 'go of it' than Zeo didTodzo wrote:http://www.neurovigil.com/ibrain/123.Shawn T.W. wrote:But ... will it measure brain waves to know if your asleep or not? There are many many ways to get the information we currently know about to find out what is happening in our sleep. There are many technologies that would add nicely to what we currently have.
However it seems that those who call themselves "medical professionals" have lost their professional demeanor, imagination, and ability to see beyond the dollar signs to get the job done.

Well if it's necessary to get a 6000 Series FLIR, with the price now $120,000, won't be today either.Muffy wrote:In response to your question in re: when sleep labs will move to this technique, since the thermal camera costs $60,000, I would say "Not today".

You're right!Turdzo wrote:... have lost their...ability to see beyond the dollar signs to get the job done...
As a matter of fact, I just found a Sleep Center that's using this technology, employing Army surplus equipment (and personnel):

However, they claim their Sleep Efficiency has dropped somewhat.
