Which ASV is best? Overall
Which ASV is best? Overall
I have been struggling these past few months with little sleep. My doctor pulmonologist has never even heard of complex sleep apnea. I am starting to give up on him and will go my own route which I think is best.
I have bought a APAP machine for 1100$(as prescribed by my doctor) and it is worthless because it increases my central apneas. My doctor recommends me to use it for one more month and he will see what goes on from there. Well how can he proceed from there if he has never even heard of central sleep apnea? I took my chance and searched online for a ASV that will help my needs and found secondwindcpap and I may be able to buy from there. I have work and go to school, and my life is a real struggle as of now. I only make 12$ an hour so with the bit of money I have left I want to make the best choice for me. I am starting to hallucinate due to my lack of sleep
Respironics BIPAP Auto/SV Advanced with BIFLEX with heated humidifier
ResMed S9 Adapt SV
ResMed Adapt SV (Enhanced) with Heated Humidifier
System One BIPAP Auto SV Advanced Machine with Heated Humidifier \/ \/
If I had to one out of the four, which one is the best. I know some might be better then others in certain areas, but I would like to know which one performs best overall

Re: Which ASV is best? Overall
Sleepinow,
Other than the significant personal preference issues between the two main brands, there are newer and older models.
More experienced ASV users will chime in before long; meanwhile, I will point out that the resmed S9 VPAP ADAPT is very new technology and gets many +++'s. Respironics System One has recently introduced an ASV which somebody will likely comment on -I have an S9 ADAPT for almost 4 months now.
OLDER models of either brand are not going to be the most advanced treatment, and the older models are more difficult to get data off for analyzing with software.
Some links you might look at: www.cpaptalk.com/viewtopic/t66801/ASV-- ... -WORK.htmlviewtopic/t74777/Respironics-vs-Resmed-ASV.html
You should also look at site SecondWindCpap.com as they sell new and used PAP's at very decent prices. I bought a BiPAP there and was pleased. It just didn't treat my centrals.
Another thread is our everything ASV users: viewtopic.php?t=65791&start=435
PS I should add that if you'll include your equipment info in TEXT mode, and the pressures you're using, we can help you if you need to adjust your present therapy. This is an extremely helpful and knowledgable bunch of folks. Welcome to the forum.

Thanks
The Bipap that did not treat your centrals, is that the S9 Adapt or was that a previous machine that you no longer use
Yes, the secondwindcpap was the place where I found these four machines all of which are over 1000$ I have no insurance so this choice is very important to me

Thank you very much for the pm. I am trying to find a new/lightly used machine and want the best one available at a price around 1000 - 2500 dollars.
I really want the System One 60 series ASV but there are none for sale on secondwindcpap which is kind of disappointing for me

That model is very, very new to the market. It's going to be extra hard to find used anywhere.sleepinow wrote:I really want the System One 60 series ASV but there are none for sale on secondwindcpap which is kind of disappointing for me

Too bad, I had my hopes up for nothing
Would you know if it is a significant difference over the 50 series model?

Re: Which ASV is best? Overall
60 series has the heated hose option..nice but not a deal breaker.sleepinow wrote:Would you know if it is a significant difference over the 50 series model?
That's pretty much the main difference.
Heated hoses aren't always needed and if they are needed there are ways to reduce the need and/or just get a stand alone heated hose.
For the difference in money ..if you could even find the 960 over the 950...you can buy a bunch of stand alone heated hoses.
Since $ is a factor..concentrate on the 950 if that is where your thoughts are leaning. I can help with the software so that isn't an issue.

Re: Which ASV is best? Overall
Okay that is good to hear
Only problem is is that I do not know which machine to get. From the four choices above, I still do not know which one would be a better choice.
As for money I am willing to pay more for a better machine. I want to live a better life so if I need to dump a few extra bucks, I am willing to do so
P.S I want to have my final decision and purchase before I go to bed tonight. It will be VERY VERY relieving for me to know that a machine is in transit

Re: Which ASV is best? Overall
The Model 60 ASV includes the ability to optionally support a heated hose. Otherwise, as I understand it there is little other difference. (The DC power connector is different, so you would need a different .. slightly more expensive ... DC power cable).
Here's the Model 60:
https://www.cpap.com/productpage/pr-60- ... anced.html
Where it notes:
https://www.cpap.com/productpage/PR-Sys ... anced.html
Whichever one you get you will want to be certain it includes a humidifier. That can make things much easier, especially during the winter or if you live in a very dry climate. Personally, I live in an area of the country where it is humid enough that I don't use a humidifier until the middle of winter. But then, I've been using a xPAP device for almost one half of my life at this point. So, I'm used to the dryer mouth feeling from higher pressure.
By the way, since you deal with complex sleep apnea, I would tend to recommend the PR System One ASV unit (either the Model 50 or 60). This would allow you to use the automatic BiLevel feature. It allows you to sleep with the lowest possible pressure and allow it to clear the obstruction, but then lower the pressure when you stop obstructing. However, if the higher pressure triggers a central apnea it would then switch toward ventilator mode to help sustain your respiration during the central apnea ... which helps break the undershoot/overshoot cycle of central apneas.
By way of explanation, the Resmed unit does not have an automatic BiLevel feature. That is, it will not adjust the EPAP pressure per your needs.
Hope that helps.

Great thanks for the reply John, it really means a lot to me
You just made my decision closer to being final, but I just hope that this is really the best one out of the four. (I have a weird thing where I need the absolutely best machine or any given item for a certain range of price, which I guess is a good thing)
