Lithuanian Bakery.
They have 2 stores in Omaha, and a Web presence.
Absolutely no comparison to the Hostess dreck.
It's 'to die for'--and what a way to go!

Let's hear it for good-quality junk food!

Oh, wait. That sounds odd. Never mind.

...maybe....maybe....an "off shore" company will pick up the ball.

......maybe the Big C. They will have a new, yummy, lead cream filling......
that will have totally acceptable levels....according to the FDA.
It's all good.

I'm thinking maybe a zero-calorie polyester twinkie (I figure I'll go lowercase with the T--they're too busy to protect their brand right now) with a styrofoam (so sue me) filling. I just need to drum up a little cash first.

I cannot believe that Hostess was not "to big to fail"! Hostess has been in bankruptcy court since Jan. of this year. This was their second time in bankruptcy. They were asking the union workers to take some concessions to help the company survive, and they decided that losing a few bucks out of their check each week, was worse than not having a job! There goes that unemployment number back up! And right before Christmas (oops! Winter holiday) too! What a shame!

Yes I have to walk into an artisanat bakery every week and NOT buy the wonderful, delicious, all natural pastries they make. Hostess stuff leaves me cold, real Black forest cake, almond tarts, cream puffs on the other hand....

All among my favorites! I don't know how you walk outta there without buying something! I doubt I could.

Hasn't Hostess already gone bankrupt/liquidated/reformed a few times already?

I truly don't eat stuff with flour and sugar any more (18 months, 55 lbs lost and more to go), but part of the reason I'm fat is that every once in a great while (a few times a year, NOT a regular occurrence) I just had to have two chocolate creme filled Hostess cupcakes with a HUGE glass of ice cold milk. I'd eat this in place of a meal, and be good for months and months. Now, something like that would kill me from sugar shock, since I don't eat ANYTHING like that any more! And since this is not a "diet" per se, but a way of life, there's no plan to one day "be able" to eat them again (I know that I will never be able to eat any differently than I do now--when I get to my goal weight, it won't change how I eat at all). But I will still be sad knowing they're not "out there" any more, "just in case".

My dad quit smoking in his 60's. He always said when he turned 80 he'd start smoking again because he missed it, and by that age he would no longer care if it killed him or not. Sadly, he died at 67 from colon cancer, so he never got that last smoke. Looks like I'll have to die without my last chococlate, cream filled cupcake.

Double chocolate chip brownie (ghirardelli mix from Sam's club), with warm ganache poured over; and loads of real whipped cream.
I'll be thinking of that when I eat my sugar-free Jell-o tonight.

Hey ChunkyF... don't do that to yourself. You could end up having a heart attack just thinking about that chocolate chip brownie... might as well just eat and enjoy every moment!

P.S. Don't tell anyone, but my family calls me the, "great enabler". You never would have guessed... right?

That is a lot of weight to lose. That's really wonderful and I'm sure you feel better too.

BUT, why does it have to be all or nothing? What is so terrible about allowing yourself a treat every few months? Or, even once a year?

...whispers... I did say I was the great enabler.

Unions killed it? I don't think so.

http://thinkprogress.org/economy/2012/1 ... ?mobile=nc
But while headlines have been quick to blame unions for the downfall of the company there’s actually more to the story: While the company was filing for bankruptcy, for the second time, earlier this year, it actually tripled its CEO’s pay, and increased other executives’ compensation by as much as 80 percent.
