Bob, I still get the feeling Amazon doesn't want you to contact them by phone as I found it hidden on the website. Because I keep forgetting to put in Outlook, I keep googling it.

EMS, I did get a response. Essentially stating thank you for letting us know you shopped with Barnes and Noble. Rep gave you correct information that telephone orders couldn't be placed. Amazon is looking into allowing telephone orders.

I do agree that in other areas, their customer service is good. But in my opinion, not being able to order items by telephone isn't good service. Obviously, that is not an issue for everyone.

Nate, you make some good points about telephone orders but I have never had a problems placing one. Maybe I have been lucky?

And if the person emails the order within 30 minutes, you actually do have proof.

Since there are many valid reasons why someone might not be able to use a computer, I just think being allowed to order by telephone should be standard procedure.

Just order from someone besides Amazon and shut up your damn whining.

NateS: I think it is foolish to order items verbally.
You got it right.

Why don't YOU shut up?! What a nasty thing to say to someone!! How would you like it if you had a gripe and someone told you to, "shut up your damn whining"?

Wow Granny, what ever happened to treating other posters with respect? I have never done anything to you to deserve that type of comment.

I've had nothing but good experiences with Amazon. But I don't worry about the "Not able to order over phone part". They have promptly communicated with me /vendor upon any return requests when a problem rarely would arise with a given product. I like the search-ability of the site and the range of products available along with the generally good pricing and "free shipping over $25" offers.

I guess just like a given person using E-bay or not, it's an individual thing but I wouldn't bash Amazon. They are what they are. A strictly online retailer setup the way they are for their own efficiency I'm sure. And it works for many including myself.

i totally agree. amazon is the first place i check for prices and i do not like using the phone.

here's an actual product i bought just this month from amazon. my avatar doggie needs a product to keep his eye gunk from staining the hair around his eyes. if you're not familiar with the little dustmop dogs its called tear staining. the manufacturer sells 240 grams of the product for $132. my local pet store sells 120 grams of the product for $120. i bought a 240 gram bottle for amazon, not a partner, shipped from amazon, for $56.61. best price, 3 yr exp date and i didn't have to pick up the phone or mail a check.

I order from Anazon all the time and so far have had no problems at all. Recently I ordered some drill bits for glass etching . ( One can never have enough as they wear out ) and I ordered some books and a KumiLoom and started some Japanese braiding. All three items were delivered before the actual estimated delivery dates. Good luck with them. Have a great day, Huggies, Fay Oh yes,, I forgot that last year I did have an experience with a wall clock that I ordered. They said it was a 31 day key wind and Westminster chime, Which turned out to be a 15 day key wind and a bim bam. Had no problems sending it back. I wrote the Co and explained the problem and they had UPS come in the snow of all things and picked it up. Thier service was hassle free.

I can't say enough great things about Amazon. In my experience over the past several years, they have incredibly great customer service, and of course, great prices.
I have Amazon Prime membership and never have to pay for 2 day shipping and I even get free movie streaming included with my membership. I have never had a problem that they wouldn't cheerfully resolve.
In many ways they are like our host, CPAP.com, in providing great prices with great customer service!

Times are changing. We recently had the "Fresh and Easy" grocery store chain open stores in Arizona. They don't accept checks as a form a payment. You should see how upset the older people get.

I've had nothing but good experiences with Amazon, i find on line shopping very convenient. Amazon have taken my word for it that a package was not delivered by UPS when its marked as delivered on their web site on more than one occasion. I shop on Amazon too much, i'm a prime member and watch their video on demand over the internet. My wife calls me an Amazon junkie.

I generally find making phone calls slightly annoying as I have a British accent. Half the time people can't understand and i have to repeat stuff. The other half of the time i get the "Oh where are you from, Australia (or South Africa)" and we have to go into that conversation.

Last night i placed an Amazon order for a radar/lazer detector at 8pm, I got en email it had shipped at 4am, and it arrived at my house by 11am.

The only downside with shopping Amazon is trying to keep track of the sales tax i should enter of my state tax return

Amazon is the first place I think of when I want to buy something from the internet and my whole family uses them regularly. It is a great company.

I would not want to place an order by phone and I feel a little reassured to know I am dealing with a company that does not have a huge call center for receiving orders - would only complicate their business and make things more risky and expensive for all of us.

BTW, we do keep careful records and pay all the state sales tax we are supposed to. I am high income and take advantage of every legal tax loophole there is (you would be surprised at how little income tax I pay.) I am sure the auditors would love to catch me at something so we are extra careful to pay the sales tax.

Let me add also that I support The Fair Tax, http://www.fairtax.org/, even though it would mean I would pay more taxes. Everyone should look into it and support candidates who support The Fair Tax. It would be great for our country.

I've had very few issues with Amazon over a long time of dealing with them for a wide raneg of products, and those few issues were quickly sorted out via email

If you don't like the business model, shop elsewhere

I like Amazon and buy quite a lot from them. I have no desire to ever contact them or almost anyone else, by phone. Like others said email is preferred in my view- a record of everything and no questions about what is stated. I do have a pet peeve about businesses that invite email then apparently never read them.
The only thing I find odd is Amazon built a huge distribution center in Columbia, SC just 20 minutes from my home. Oddly 98% of my orders ship from Kentucky...almost nothing ever comes from the local one!
I have noticed they are a little like Sam's Club, generally great prices but not always, it is easy to get lulled into not checking elsewhere and paying too much.
