Swift Nap

Post by roztom » Sun Mar 19, 2006 4:58 pm

I decided today to try another round with my Swift.

So far the Swift is 5 me 1.

I took an afternoon nap about 1hr 40 min with the SWift and surprise, suprise - I fell asleep. I also used a Sleep Mask because I'm sensitive to light. I was out for the count.

I popped in a seperate smart card so I could just monitor my Swift nap.

Here's what I got:

AHI: 2.4
OSA: 0
Hypop: 2.4
FLI: 0
Snore: 14.1
Avg Leak: 27

I think the leak was ok. MAybe you other Swift users can verify that.

However the Snore seems high to me - I wasn't snoring - hmmm.

Usually with a Nasal mask I've been running SI: 5.7

The leak is close to my Nasal mask. 26 avg.

SO Swift users. Does your data show much difference between Swift Nasal Pillows and a regular mask? Was you Snore higher? AHI ?

Also: Those of you who are experienced nappers: I felt really out of it after my nap. Taking me over an hour to shake off the "I'm out of it feeling."

Is there a timeframe where a nap typically is refreshing before you get into a place where you need recovery time to get back up to speed?

Thanks,

Tom

You must have really been deep in REM to get that wet noodle feeling. What's been happening to me lately (I also use the Swift) is that I don't get into that really deep sleep until about 1 hour before I have to wake up. I wake up feeling wobbly and it can take me until noon ish to shake it off. So not ideal if you're at work. I'm happy to have the REM sleep, but I wish I could do it in the middle of the night like regular people.

Sometimes too much sleep can make me tired. Ain't that weird?

Regards.

roztom, 1 hour and 40 minutes of data tells you, well, nothing really. You need to examine your numbers over the course of several weeks to retrieve any statistically significant data. Micro-managing is an easy trap to fall in to when you begin to evaluate your figures. Do yourself a favor and don't look at it for a week between downloads. Then you'll start to have something to sink your teeth into.

Maybe my post wasn't clear.

This was about a short nap and the numbers it generated with a specific mask.

Thanks,

Tom

Since you asked, Tom. (LOL)

Here is what I see comparing the Swift with the Ultra Mirage nasal mask. I started using Swift on February 28. Everything prior that date was Ultra Mirage nasal mask. February 28th and after was the Swift.

AHI - no real difference
Image

Time in apnea - no real difference
Image

Variable Breathing - no real difference
Image

Snores - no real difference
Image

Leaks - The Swift is leakier (Disregard the big spikes during Ultra Mirage period)

Remember, you asked. .

Bill
