Re: SD card size
SD card compatibility is sometimes iffy. Combinations that "should" work may not. Combinations that "shouldn't" work sometimes will.
I believe S9 machines store all the data in a "datalog" file stored in the main folder of the SD card. You can copy the datalog directory to your PC and keep a copy. Create a "CPAP" folder on your PC. When you want to save your data, create a new folder in this folder. Name the new folder with today's date. I would name it 111221 (mmyydd) because then they sort correctly by date. Copy the datalog folder from your SD card into the 111221 directory.
It sounds more complicated than it is. Be sure to COPY the folder, not MOVE.
Unfortunately, resscan won't work with this file, but your data will be there. You can play some games to put it back into an SD card, but you have to format the data on your S9 machine.
Fortunately, if you use the free SleepyHead program, it doesn't play silly games with the format of the card or directory structure, so you can read the data from old sessions directly from your PC. If you ever have to reload Resscan or move to a new PC, you may have trouble reading the old data from your machine.

Re: SD card size
I downloaded again this morning and got a more detailed report so you were right about it being erased. It only shows details for the one night. Now I am about to study videos to see what the report means. I am blown away by the information you people have on hand and are willing to share. Thank you +++

Not unless the data file itself has been damaged.... and in any case the exact same applies to Sleepyhead.archangle wrote:If you ever have to reload Resscan or move to a new PC, you may have trouble reading the old data from your machine.
Re: SD card size
You can backup the SD card data folder periodically to a file on your PC and keep a backup. SleepyHead will read this backup any time in the future. I don't believe that Resscan will read this saved data folder from your hard disk. I could be wrong, but it's not documented in the Resscan manual.billbolton wrote:Not unless the data file itself has been damaged.... and in any case the exact same applies to Sleepyhead.archangle wrote:If you ever have to reload Resscan or move to a new PC, you may have trouble reading the old data from your machine.
The S9 CPAP machine itself will erase old waveform data from the SD card once it gets to be 7 days old.
If Resscan's data files on your computer get corrupted 8 days or more from now, you won't be able to look at your waveform data from today because the CPAP machine will have erased it. If you buy a new computer, there's no obvious way to move your old CPAP data to the new computer.
There's probably some way to backup the internal data files that Resscan uses so that you can save all your data in case Resscan or your PC crashes and loses your data or you get a new PC. Then you'd also have to figure out how to make Rescan accept the data you backed up. There's nothing in the Resscan manual about making backups of detailed data, other than exporting summary files.
I suppose you can also save the data folder from the SD card to your hard disk as a backup and then you can copy it back to an SD card and read it with Resscan. I know the CPAP machine itself is picky about anything but Resmed software writing to the card. I don't know if Resscan plays any such games with being willing to read data if the data wasn't written by the computer instead of the CPAP machine.

Arch, I don't know why you are so rabid about this topic. Maybe you're just jealous because you don't have an S9.
All you have to do with the S9 is backup your patient file and transfer it anywhere you want. So please stop spreading false information about ResScan and stick to Sleepyhead.

Re: SD card size
I just sort of tested this last night. Copied the ResMed SD card to a folder on the PC then copied that same data to another SD card. ResScan did read the second card. The S9, however insisted on reformatting the second card. So there is a way to back up the data from the card and read it later with software.archangle wrote:You can backup the SD card data folder periodically to a file on your PC and keep a backup. Re: SD card size
The S9 cares how the data is written, ResScan doesn't.

Glad to hear you can backup and restore the patient file. Thanks for the info.Lizistired wrote:Arch, I don't know why you are so rabid about this topic. Maybe you're just jealous because you don't have an S9.

Where is the patient file stored and what extension does it use?
Does ResScan keep all the old waveform data in the patient data files, or does it delete old data like the machine does?
I'm not jealous at all. My PRS1 machine never decides to delete my therapy data, or gets snotty and demand to reformat the SD card.
Thanks for the experiment.Randyp1234 wrote: I just sort of tested this last night. Copied the ResMed SD card to a folder on the PC then copied that same data to another SD card. I think someone said that there was one particular file on the SD card that the machine was really picky about, and that you could sometimes get away with fooling with the other files. I think you also had to setup the card on the S9 and then you might be able to tinker with the other files. I've also heard that if you put it in a Mac, the Mac will write an index file or something onto the card an it won't work any more, unless you remove that file.
You might try formatting at card in the CPAP machine and seeing if you can copy data to it.
It does require the data to be on the SD card, not the hard drive, right?Lizistired wrote:The S9 cares how the data is written, ResScan doesn't.

Re: SD card size
Resscan does check the .crc files though, so those have to be on the card along with the .edf files. No crc, or incorrect crc, file and Resscan won't read in the edf file.Lizistired wrote:The S9 cares how the data is written, ResScan doesn't.

Not sure for Vista and 7 but in XP the patient folder is in the program file folder for Resscan.archangle wrote:Where is the patient file stored and what extension does it use?

If you select "overwrite" during the data download process then Resscan will delete the older data. That's one reason to always select "discard" during download.
To download into Resscan the data has to be on an SD card.

I haven't had that experience but I have only selected overwrite when I have already downloaded data once for that day. Message= Duplicate data for the current day, not the standard message about summary data for the first day. Re: SD card size
I'm thinking I did some months ago. I think I also did a test using a dummy patient file and saw the old stuff disappear. I could be wrong, but that's why I never select overwrite. Maybe later today I'll do a test with a copy of my patient file. All I have to do is create a new patient and then copy all the rlk files from my folder to the new folder. That way I don't risk my real data!Lizistired wrote:I haven't had that experience but I have only selected overwrite when I have already downloaded data once for that day.
