Help please with card reader for Encore Pro

Post by Dale92 » Sat Nov 12, 2011 3:47 pm

I am hoping someone can help me get my card reader to work with my new computer. I have not been able to read my data for quite awhile. I had to upgrade my computer late last year and I purchased a Windows 7 64bit system with Virtual XP. I cannot for the life of me get the infineer DT3500 card reader to be recognized by my computer. I have searched this forum for suggestions, trying the ones that applied to my system but nothing has worked. I emailed cpap.com hoping I would be able to purchase something that would work with this new system but they only suggested I buy a card reader which happens to be the same one I have now the DT3500.

I have Encore Pro version 1.5.82 running on my Virtual XP drive so no problems there. I need the Encore Pro software to read my Remstar Auto's data from the Smart Card. As far as I know the only card reader which works with this setup is the Infineer DT3500. When I plug in my reader the computer gives me a message that a "USB device is not recognized" when I examine the USB connection it says there is an unrecognized device and when I look it shows no drivers have been installed.

Does anyone know of any work around to get this to work with my new system? Is there a reader for my smart card which will work in Windows 7 64 bit systems or in the Virtual XP? Will the Green Bay Packers go undefeated with a second straight superbowl? Sorry big Packer fan here!

I hope someone has suggestions I have been searching and trying different things off and on this year and have had no luck.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Dale

I have a computer running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, and successfully use the Infineer Mako DT-3500 card reader with Encore Pro 2.4.12.2. I don't remember if I had to install drivers from an included CD-ROM or if Windows installed them automatically, but I didn't have any trouble installing the reader. So, unless there is some other reason you like your present version of Encore Pro, I would forget about the XP emulation and install the Windows 7 version.

Thanks for the reply.
I did try installing directly into Windows 7 and was unable to get the computer to regonize the card reader. I tried installing the 32bit drivers for the card before I remembered I had a 64 bit system. I have cleared drivers out of the system and reinstalled the correct drivers in Windows 7 and I tried installing drivers in the XP virtual drive with no success.

Can you tell me how you installed your drivers? When I initially bought the Encore Pro software, card reader and drivers I was instructed by members here that the installation had to go in a certain order. I was also told not to use the drivers that came with the software but use the drivers that were supplied by a member here, the link for which is not defunct. I was able to get the drivers from another site, the original ones and the newer Windows 7 64 bit ones. Like I said I have tried everything I can think of with no joy.

My windows 7 64 bit laptop recognised the reader and installed a useable driver from it's resident drivers. No problem. Try opening the hardware manager and request a driver update on the card reader.

Actually when I tried to request a driver update it told me I had the most recent driver. Then when I look at the list of drivers installed for this device it shows no drivers installed. So I don't know why Windows is telling me I have the correct driver for a device it does not recognize and shows no drivers installed all even though each installation of the correct drivers states the installation was successful.

Dale,
Sorry man, out of ideas. I'm no nerd...to be sure. I've read that certain cpap software is very sensitive to the OS. If you don't have SP1 installed...do so. May help.
Good luck,
J

On my Win 7 64 bit system, the driver file for the DT3500 reader is given as 2800.sys, ver. 2.0.0.10, by Mako Technologies, Inc.

Thanks for the replys moresleep and Mr. Bill I just logged on quickly to check and see if I had any new responses. I have to shower, shave and head out for a couple of hours but when I come back I will take a look at both of these. Mr. Bill I took a quick look at your response and link for your work around, I assume you are using the same smart card reader the Infineer DT3500 for your Encore Viewer? As I said I have the virtual XP setup on my Windows 7 but I went and downloaded the VMware Player and will install it when I return but I was just thinking I don't have a Windows XP copy to install on the VMware Player because my XP came as a direct download from MS in the Virtual XP download. At least as far as I can recall, I will look and see if they allowed me to download and save a copy, but I highly doublt it. If I can get XP I will try this workaround to see if I can get my card reader to finally be regonized.

I will let you know how it goes hopefully before noon today I may (I am not holding my breath) be able to see my data again.

Well I guess I will not get to try Mr Bill's suggestion since I do not have a copy of Windows XP so the VMware Player will not have to be installed. I can't purchase a copy of XP just to run Encore Pro after I upgraded my Windows 7 to the Professional so I could get the Virtual XP - themoney just isn't there to feed Microsoft indefinitely. I thought for sure after I got Encore Pro installed in my new computer it would only be a matter of a couple of days of research to get the Infineer DT3500 card reader to work on my system but after 6 months of trying off and on I am getting truly frustrated.

Hopefully someone here can think of a way for my computer to finally see my card reader. Help!

Dale
