After reading Eric's new thread about his DME, I think he is trying to get someone here to cry.

Okay - now we're getting somewhere. It's about the machine not being able to take punishment from when you turn over and whip the machine off the nightstand. You're suggesting that S8 could take more punishment. I can believe that. The housing of the S8 does seem more durable than that of the S9. I think we both know that moving the machine 6 inches won't be enough to dislodge the humidifier unless you've been in the habit of whipping it across the night stand a couple times by the hose when you turn over in your sleep. We're not here to judge you about that. It can easily happen, and you wouldn't be the first to have that problem on this board. I can vouch that more than a few of us would love to consciously whip our machines out the window from time to time, regardless of manufacture.

Three things to consider:
1. Use a longer regular hose: 8 to 10 feet. Get a hose cover to prevent rainout, if you don't have one. It will also help protect the hose against damage when you whip it around in your sleep. Stop using the climate-line or slim line hose. They're too delicate.

2. Add a hoseminder to the wall and velcro one part of the hose so that if you jerk the hose hard when you turn over at night, it stops at the wall and doesn't wing the machine off your nightstand.

3. As a last resort, consider building a sort of holding cage that you can clamp to your nightstand that will keep your machine sturdily on the nightstand. Buy more hoses. It's easier to replace a hose than an flow generator.

Never was an issue with the S8 though, tight fit no probs. S9 is like a little toy or something.

Obviously, the S8 was over designed for 99.999% of the market. What a waste of natural resources that was!!!

Velcro goes a long way to help prevent night time mishaps. I have limited room on my nightstand and my S9 just fits with the hose protruding from the rear. Why the H5i heated hose doesn't have an elbow option is beyind me because I have a hose hanger. The first place to go is right at the connecter. Anyhow. I use velcro straps to hold my machine in place. I also looked and there is room for doublesided velcro between the two sides. This should keep the two from coming apart. You can also use it on the bottom of the machine to hold it down or keep the parts from coming undone. You can buy any size you need everywhere.

I had almost the same problem with you. The humidifier is very easy to seperate with S9. I called resmed. They told me to send the machine and humidifier to them to check. Then they changed a new humidifier for me. Now it works very well.
I'm not sure if cpap.com will do the same. But since I purchased from resmed finland. The price is much cheaper than cpap.com and the service is perfect.
Hope you can get rid of it somehow.

The trick is to seperate the units and place back together several times. The latch isn't worn in enough to properly latch.
