My Resmed S9 sucks

Post by EricinNC » Sun Mar 20, 2011 10:05 am

Yesterday morning and this morning I woke up with my Resmed S9 APAP blower and humidifier partially SEPARATED. Can you believe that? This has happened four or five times since Ive had the Resmed S9. LOL

<shaking head>

I never experienced anything like that in years of using a Resmed S8 APAP, not a single time did my humidifer and PAP blower separate. I had them move on me a few times, but they'd move as a unit and not cause a leak.

That is bad engineering, bad design, dangerous even.

I wonder how many more years Resmed will be in business because I can tell a big difference and drop in quality between their S8 series (excellent) and their new S9 series (poor in my experience so far). There are obviously things going on at Resmed. They are putting out subpar gear to patients now, they wont let patients legally resell their gear if the patient wants, they are really tight with their software...they do make good masks and always have. But their machines and business policies SUCK.

I would like to resell my Resmed S9 APAP and replace it with an S8 APAP or another Phillips Respironics APAP. But its illegal for me to do that. Hence I am stuck with a shoddy machine.

You can sell it privately without any issues. You might want to contact/call http://www.secondwindcpap.com and discuss your problem. They always have S8's for sale and might do an exchange of some sort with you if you ask or barter. They are a wonderful company and have great customer service. Their gently used machines are serviced, sanitized and carry a warranty. Worth a shot.....

So where is it written that it is ILLEGAL to sell a Resmed machine? Just because Resmed has flexed their muscles and not allowed SOME places to re-sell...YOU can sell it.. try secondwind, craigs list, ebay, newspaper ads...I'm sure there are many others
Started cpap in 2010.. still at it with great results.

Oh its not actually illegal? I did not know that. If its not illegal well hell then, I will sell it and replace it with either an S8 APAP or more likely a new Phillips Respironics APAP. Except for their masks, I am about done with Resmed. Their S8 machines were really good, but when I wake up and my humidifier and PAP are SEPARATED and I get a leak rate, LOL um no way that will work.

I have a Respironics M Series APAP with CFlex with the humidifier and smart card. I would be happy to trade with you. Probably around 700 hours on it, I would have to check to make sure on hours. Brand new when I bought it. It is now my back up machine and used only when I travel.

I have never tried a ResMed machine and often thought I would like to try one. I would have no problem selling it should I not like it. While it may be illegal for a DME to sell the machine without a prescription that restriction does not apply to individuals and last I heard there were no cpap police going from door to door arresting people who sell without RX like on craigslist.

My Resmed S8 APAP never separated once in all the years I used it. This is ridiculous and poor design and engineering. Resmed obviously has developed a bad case of the "make money first" and quality control comes down there as a third or fourth priority if its a priority at all.

Yeah? I might keep you in mind then. I have a Phillips Respironics APAP with A flex as my backup machine. It has barely any hours on it. It is made more like the old school APAPs are made.

I am going to try putting a strong rubber band around it or maybe electrical tape to keep the units together and see how that goes first though. This is ridiculous what I have experienced.

Dunno how far away you are from this attractive deal:

Boy, too bad you've had such rotten luck with that machine. I said it earlier and I'll say it again... Darn!

I am leary of buying anything off of Craigslist. It does look like a good deal though and in the best area of Charlotte too...if its legit.

Where did you purchase it? Can it be replaced? This may have been a one-time occurrence and may not ever happen again. Darn, I think it deserves another chance, don't you?

I haven't had any trouble with mine. Are you sure that it was fully seated? There's a solid "click" when it's correctly seated. I would have to use a crowbar to separate mine - unless, of course, I press the release tab on the back.

If it is seating correctly and can pull apart easily, something is defective with your equipment (not the design). I would have the DME swap it out since it has a 2-yr warranty.

No. Bought it from CPAP.com. Its not their problem its the way the machine is designed. My DAd is an industrial designer. The fit is loose and totally different than the older machines. I like the old school style machines better.

It was "clicked into place" properly. Ive had it do this four or five times. Its the way its designed, not a DME issue. Its a Resmed issue.
