Oh, he admitted that too. He said that he was here to see if CPAP.com is using You Tube to get people to CPAPTALK.com and in turn to CPAP.com to drive up business. Or some crap like that.

Yep -- I cannot argue with that. And I know the best thing to have done would have been to ignore, ignore, ignore.DHC wrote:Maddie,Madalot wrote:[This explains why this AmyHarper called me out by name, calling me a troll. He picks on you so much because you let him 'get to you.' He is a cretin. He is here to evoke a reaction. When you react, you feed his need. Strong reactions, especially, are what he seeks. You provided that. You, and others.
For some reason that I can't explain and don't myself understand, Calist's insistence that the ventilator does not have AVAPS really irritated me, partly because I would hate for a new person to come here, find themselves in a similar situation needing more advanced equipment, and believe Calist about the AVAPS.
A little birdie told me he was talking about me today in chat, claiming to have contacted Respironics and was told what he believes. That may have been what he was told (I doubt it) but it's really aggravating to be told that your equipment isn't running the mode that you're running it in. If it were some run of the mill person just trying to be a jerk, that would be one thing, but his claiming to be a sleep tech AND saying that -- I don't know. It got under my skin. As you say -- that's what he wnated and I fed him.
But -- he's outed himself and anybody that knows me AND knows the equipment knows that he's lying and I'm not.
That's all the really matters.

Definition of a troll: "an internet user who sends inflammatory or provocative messages designed to elicit negative responses."
Who is really a troll? Sure Calist was-he was nothing but inflammatory. But the OP has often sent inflammatory responses to any 'professionals' that dare post here, even when the posts are obviously not meant to troll. Anyone who comes here, registers, and clicks on the "New Users" icon can understand that according to the admins of this site, professionals are welcome. It does not say that they are only welcomed as 'patients' but are invited to 'share everything about CPAP.' It is rediculous to think that a professional is not going to offer advice when they feel that they can help others. This post 'welcoming professionals but not as advisors' is just another example of a provocative message, a troll-like post-one that is not in agreement with the written wishes of the admins/founders of this site. And when there is more than one professional commenting on a thread, of course to the OP that means that the member has signed up for multiple accounts and is the same person for the purpose of posting threads in support of himself. The truth is that many professionals share the same opinions. But just to be inflammatory and discredit the posters the OP claims they are the same person. Sounds like a troll to me!

Hey Brown Eyes, good to see you back, and sorry to hear you’ve been thru so much since last here. Thanks for sharing your perspective on how it felt to be in your position and the responses you got. I think that insight will be helpful to some of us in future interactions on the board.
To any for-real professionals who are here with honest motives, while I have sought to become an informed patient, I have not and never will be exposed to the medical and technical information one learns in their education and their experience in their field. I am indebted to those who have been willing to share their professional insights (NOT medical advice, before anyone jumps). I came here with a single purpose – to figure out how to use my cpap so I could feel better. I was fortunate to get that help from educated experienced cpap users, from other struggling newbies, and from those trained in these matters. I think it would be a shame for any facet of support to go missing from here.
On the topic of this thread, sorry, but I have no desire for any give-and-take with Calist. Don’t care to invest myself in a discourse knowing he has no regard for any words from those he has deemed stupid. Calist has boasted openly in chat about his(?) multiplicity of identities and ability to fool us stupid patients, so forgive me if I’m not present at any makeup campfire, holding hands and singing. And I’m ok with that. Not gonna get all worked up about it, because.. well, I just don’t care that much. Not gonna try to fix things, cause this is beyond me. Not gonna try to prove my point, cause I just need to make sense to me. Not gonna try to win anyone’s approval, just don’t need it. Just … gonna … walk … away. Keep walking, Kathy. Keep walking.

I am the OP - and that was not the original intent of the original post. All I did was say that it is dangerous to take these professionals at face value. They may not be professionals at all - and certainly may not even be competent.
So this thread went from that to a condemnation of my feelings that professionals are best to relate to us as patients. Well, I caught hell for that. Lo and behold, it turned out Calist reared his ugly head from another alias and proved my point! We don't really know what the credentials are of anyone we talk to here. Calist has shown that we can be fooled in ways we probably have yet to figure out.
Well all that got lost with Calist rambling on in his usual fashion. My point is, and always will be that you can't be sure who you are really talking to on the Internet. If we want to take "experts" at their word and let them blabber away and influence someone who may not be able to see the difference, we are being irresponsible. It really is that simple and certainly not for purposes of lively discourse with a self-professed professional.

So what you are saying is that we need to take a moment to get to know people before considering the implications of their statements....jonquiljo wrote: My point is, and always will be that you can't be sure who you are really talking to on the Internet. Amen!rested gal wrote: I have absolutely no problem with professionals coming on here whether they are "patients" or not. I have absolutely no problem with their offering professional advice if they want to step out on that limb, whether they are "patients" or not. Actually, more often what they are offering is their opinion. Which, of course, is colored by their experiences as professionals.
A "professional" may offer an opinion (or "advice") I disagree with, but I have absolutely no problem seeing them voice what they think on this forum. I welcome that.
I tend to discount what is said by anyone more quickly if I regard the way it's expressed as condescending or rude, but I still have no problem with the fact that anyone -- professional or not, "patient" or not -- expressed an opinion that might be very different from my own opinion, or offered advice that I was not going to follow.
I learned a lot over the years here from both professionals and from other users of CPAP. It will be a shame if new posters going forward don't get that same chance to learn because half the views have been censored.
Re: Why we get so excited about things??!!
True, but as long as the users like Calist (or The Pope posting just prior to you) continue to mock everything that is supposedly professional, then they make it a joke.MidnightOwl wrote: Amen!

Then let me revise my statement a bit - if a professional wants to come on with their credentials showing - then that makes sense. It would be good to hear from them. But to hear from these anonymous people who pretend to be just anyone professional - what can you really believe?
How is that not fair? If they tell us who and what they really are - then we are not censoring them, we are validating them.
Or do you want the Pope (Calist) coming around and pretending to be just about anyone and leading all of us along the garden path? The funny thing is that most of the people who want professional input can tell the wheat from the chaff - i.e. - Calist from the real thing. But do you think it's good to expose people who are not capable of making that determination just yet?The Pope wrote: So what you are saying is that we need to take a moment to get to know people before considering the implications of their statements....

I give up! Calist, you win. No one seems to want to stop you or others like you. All I'm advocating is outing the phonies and freaks, but apparently people prefer your approach to my approach. Good job! Just don't come on as some other professional who gets some unsuspecting person in a dangerous position.
