Resmed Press Release

Post by capers » Mon Sep 20, 2010 12:51 am

A business press release in Australia from Resmed says:-

"ResMed Inc. (RMD)

RMD announced the results of a clinical study confirming that patients' compliance with sleep therapy increases when using ResMed's new CPAP device. The clinical study of 50 patients suffering from sleep apnea showed an improvement of 30 minutes in average daily usage, from a mean of 6 hours 35 minutes on the patient's usual CPAP device, to 7 hours 5 minutes, when using the new S9 Series".

What features were associated with this improvement?

If Resmed funded the study, I wouldn't expect to hear much of anything different.

Since they've "proved" that, I guess they'll be eliminating all their non data cpap machines from their line. I mean, why intentionally give patients an inferior treatment, right?

Or.... maybe it could be a faulty clock in the Resmed CPAP !

Or.... maybe the user is especially motivated to make it work after spending all the EXTRA money on a Resmed CPAP
I'm workin' on it.

Let's see:
... when using ResMed's new CPAP device.

Which of the many s9 devices was that?
The clinical study of 50 patients suffering from sleep apnea
How were they selected? Pressure?
on the patient's usual CPAP device,
Which device is that? An S8? An antedeluvIan one? At which pressure?

It was a test with a RESMED machine...............I don't care if it was tested as the number one machine in the universe...I will not buy resmed no matter what they say. Are they trying to clean up their tarnished image with a bunch of useless information? BOYCOTT RESMED!!!!!!!
Cheers

That's not going to increase their market share. Having a competitive price will.

I am new to this too and also have a ResMed Vpap St machine. That is just great, I don't like hearing all these bad things about this company. What machine is the best and what would you recommend that can track data at home?

Cindy
Don't panic.....It's not Resmeds equipment that has tarnished their image, its their bullying tactics ...they actually have very good equipment, if you would look at everyones profile you would see that the majority have something resmed, be it a machine or mask. Just read the threads that have appeared in the last few weeks concerning resmed and cpapauction.

Oh good...thanks nan! I'm so new to all of this and just got this machine last week. It was just brought to me....I wasn't given any choice of machines and if I would have been, I wouldn't have had a clue anyway. I do want a machine that I can read my data and am still trying to figure out if I can do it with this machine. Does anyone know? I know i can copy the data off for the doctor, but I want to be able to read it MYSELF! I'm going to give the company that brought it to me a call today. I think I wan to try another mask. I have a tendency to breathe though my mouth, so am thinking the nose pillow isn't going to work for me. I really won't know until I try a larger one to see.
So, I'm going to ask them to bring me another one and I'll ask about reading the data on this machine too. They have to come back this week anyway to bring me something to test my oxygen overnight...so I'll see if they'll bring me another mask to try.
Good to know that resmed is a good machine. I feel better now! I've only been reading the forum for a few days, so I have a lot to catch up on and didn't know anything about resmed reputation. I'll have to check out the posts you're referring to. This forum will be a godsend to me. There's nothing like talking with people who have "been there/done that" and understand what you're talking about! Thanks so much to everyone!

I researched machines before getting mine and was very impressed with Resmed. I asked my doctor to prescribe the Resmed S9 Elite (which he did). I've been VERY happy with it.

It's buried in the fine print of eligibility criteria, but the description of the study from http://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT01013207 shows that the people selected for the study had to already be using a ResMed machine. Therefore, what the study really suggests, if accurate, is that the S9 beats the S8. It doesn't have anything to say about the superiority of the S9 over machines from other companies.
