FORUM CATEGORIES - (Just hear me out…)

Re: FORUM CATEGORIES - (Just hear me out…)
Am I misinterpreting the "tone" of posts on here, or do some of you really despise me that much? (that was rhetorical BTW)

You must be misinterpreting. I haven't read even one post that even hints at despising you. IMO, it is worth bringing up the whole category thing once in a while to see how people feel, just like -SWS said. I may bring it all up again one day, myself.tattooyu wrote:Am I misinterpreting the "tone" of posts on here, or do some of you really despise me that much? (that was rhetorical BTW)
Keep posting. Keep rocking.
(I don't believe in rhetorical. )

NOOO! No despising here! Who could despise the father of such a beautiful baby! What a sweet picture you have posted. I'm a sucker for beautiful baby pictures.

1) The ability to easily put footnotes in posts.
2) Greek font.
3) Umlauts and accent egues.
Accent egues alone would allow a thousand Gallic flowers to bloom.

No people are expressing their opinions on a concept not on YOU. You are not your post!tattooyu wrote:Am I misinterpreting the "tone" of posts on here, or do some of you really despise me that much? (that was rhetorical BTW)
Been working on that too - what with job interviews and such. (They are not rejecting me I just don't fit the position - repeat until I start to believe it or throw up.)

BlackSpinner is right. The discussion has been about the idea you posed -- not a criticism of you for asking what people think of an idea. Same applies to the voting. It's a vote about an idea -- not a vote for or against you personally. For example I voted against categories, but I wuv YOUuuuuu, tattoooooooo! You know that!BlackSpinner wrote:people are expressing their opinions on a concept not on YOU. Here's something I wrote way back in an older "should we have categories" thread -- it's still how I feel:
Then I put links to several old "categories" discussions in that post. Just like I did on page 1 of this interesting, entertaining thread.I wrote:My reply then is what I'd still say now: No need to apologize, Mtnviewer. That's a perfectly reasonable suggestion.Mtnviewer wrote:Right now it's a bit complex to follow threads or to quickly find info via Search when threads are all over the place in topics and time.
If this has been thought of before and discounted for some good reason, my aplogies.
Quite a few people would like categories. Quite a few wouldn't.
It never hurts to ask. I kind of like the forum as it is, but then I'm pretty used to it. I can well understand how it is for people who have recently come here and are trying to find something specific.
There've been some good pro/con discussions about "categories":

I forgot who even started this thread but it sure is a good one. It always seems to be an interesting topic judging from all the responses whenever it's brought up.

Even more fascinating to me is how the responses have wandered all over the face of the subject map.DoriC wrote:I forgot who even started this thread but it sure is a good one. It always seems to be an interesting topic judging from all the responses whenever it's brought up.
I'm just wondering how the pro-category people propose to handle threads that start on one category, and then wander over into some topic that should be in a different forum. Split the thread and move it each time it wanders to a new place?
I also just have to point out that once you start saying that certain topics don't belong in certain forums, there is a loss of freedom. That sort of contradicts the whole reason most of us like this place to begin with. I'm not real strong on the issue of having different forums either way, but I hate to see the rule-makers move in, and that's what this will lead to.
Some people will feel free, as has been pointed out, to post whatever they want in whichever forum they choose. Then you have to decide, do we need somebody to force the rules? I don't think Johnny wants to do that. Will you really be happy if some other member on your level gets to decide who gets to post what in which forum?
I recall when, over at TOB, the MOST obnoxious member over there was made an administrator!! I could not believe it. That's about the time I left.

Re: FORUM CATEGORIES - (Just hear me out…)
The way some of the threads here get jacked, why the hell bother to catagorize them. I belong to alot of forums that are catagorized and must say that I enjoy this one the way it is. Sure it would make it easier for a newbie to navigate but then again that may be a form of spoon feeding. The search function is your friend, learn to use it. I get regimented daily by my job, government and all else life throws at us. Its nice once and a while to be able to let your hair down and run wild. My two tenths.

Re: FORUM CATEGORIES - (Just hear me out…)
aw, tattoyou, you brought up a very reasonable subject. I am amazed at all the chatter that has followed. But, this it typical of this forum.
In other subject forums, I like the categories, but, for some reason, this just seems to be the way that cpap.talk should be. It's like the comfortable old shoe.
Your posts are most welcome, here. Kiss the baby for me!

Well, for a few snickers and giggles, we could start a poll to nominate "the MOST obnoxious member" here to be the Administrator of Categories.LoQ wrote:...Will you really be happy if some other member on your level gets to decide who gets to post what in which forum?

My vote, however, is to bury the horse.
