P.S,
Amigo's memory was all wrong about me moderating any forum.

What you do for this forum is MUCH more valuable than moderating any forum, anyway.

I am pretty much new here my self, I have heard some newbies say "why fix what isn't broken" I tend to agree with them. I came here looking for help with my OS and had no troubles finding it. this is not the first sleep apnea site i joined BUT it is the one I like and one of the main reasons is because of the OT's they are fun and don't make this site seem so stuffy. I belong to a Diabetes site that although i like in there is no OT's (at least none that i saw) and it seems clinical so I don't visit it much.

This is a great place with great people and topics, I would hate to see it change.

Thank you all for your congrats. I am a happy grandma today.

jnk, remember a couple of years ago on another long thread you asked me, "Do you feel the love?" I did then and I do now. I have to admit when I got that Blackberry message last night with "8 pounds. Healthy", the first thing I thought was "I have to tell DoriC", and I did. Then I emailed or called the rest of my family.

About your dad.... does he like babies and traveling to other continents?

Bev, you did me a great honor and I will always treasure your message! I don't really "know" any of you but by sharing some of our lives with each other, I feel a strong connection to so many of you. It makes the serious side of this forum and the real reason we're here a little easier to navigate. Now what's this about Jeff's Dad??

Wasn't Jeff trying to set Bev up with his father? Don't ask me about anything related to match making--I've retired. In fact, no more OT threads for me. I'm just going to repeatedly post the link to the study where apnea was induced by occluding the nose, but not the mouth. There is nothing more on topic than that (and great for insomniacs to read in bed):

I respectfully say:

I can understand that you are very proud of a new grandson. What I cannot understand is this. How many people on this website do you _personally_ know? Not someone whose username you're familiar with, but who you know personally. Why would someone who, as some even do, live on a different continent want to know?

Actually, I do know Bev personally. Turns out we basically live in the same city (and we've met face-to-face). And many times folks on forums get close enough that they do want to share things like this. Sometimes good friends are made on forums and they may, or may not, meet at some point. But does that really make a difference? Can someone only be a friend if they've met face-to-face or live close to each other?

And I really like hearing and sharing in the good news from other peoples' lives, whether that be online or in person. It's a great joy to me when good things happen in someone's life whether they live next door or across the ocean.

Bev, congratulations! Where are the fireworks---I didn't see any! Pictures, I want to see pictures!!

Pam

Split the forum when you log in.

Some IDs log into a moderated, categorized forum; others go into one big pot.

No peeking allowed.

Betcha the moderated, categorized forum drowns before it swims.

Actually, not so much. But I say we ignore that fact and discuss it further just to irritate xyz.

Perhaps there are those who have so little interaction with others in their life that this forum represents "their life". It shouldn't be that way.

The fundamental issue here is _purpose_. Arguments to change this incredibly helpful medical-related site to "social networking' are, at best, misguided. At worse, they're an attempt by the clinically overbearing to dominate the conversation by

There are other sites specifically designed for social networking. But where else can you go to get such excellent SA advice?
The apparent lack of tolerance displayed in that post annoyed the heck out of me. I was not planning to vote or attempt to add anything meaningful to this topic. But I just can't seem to let this go. That post swayed me in favor of voting to leave well enough alone.

Some of us here are still sleep deprived and/or never had the skills necessary to" get medical information, knowledge, and advice" without making the conversation "about them". Fortunately this forum is not so clinical that it scares off people like me who may have trouble trying to figure out how to ask for the help they need.
