embarrement with CPAP

Well, I guess I'm one of the lucky ones that have a partner that also needs a cPap. So we both look like 'aliens' from another planet when we're sleeping, but I'll tell you this much. Our house is A LOT more quiet at night! We would both saw through the miles of rainforrest before our cPaps. The only thing I'm embarrassed about now is the fact that I am suffering from the worse bought of aerophagia, so when I wake up in the morning, I'm have bad stomach pain and I have to 'pass gas'

For me - I just don't care what others think. I don't live my life to please others. Sounds cold but it's true damit.

For me - CPAP just extends my alimoney payments. For that I am grateful. Isn't that why they invented CPAP? To take my Extra Money?

GumbyCT I fully support that!! I do not give a flying flip what another person thinks. For years I endured the looks from men and the snarky smirks. I have always been less than attractive. I tended to stay home a lot. One day I realized that I was never going to do anything or see anything if I did not just get up and go! I am overweight and I do not care what others think of me in a bathing suit. I wear one apropriate to my age. Not like these 60 year olds that wear bikinis! After I booked my first cruise that was the beginning. I have no problem going out in public now. If you don't like what you see, then look elsewhere.
Life is intended to be lived and I plan to do lots of it. I even packed my car with my clothes and my kitty and moved alone to Florida from NH. I call that "Laura's Excellent Adventure" Love me or hate me. Like me or not I am who I am and I love what I've got ......Unknown

Years ago my wife and I lived in a small box (420sqft house ) My wife got up one night and went out in the back yard with our dog. She said that I was snoring so loud she could hear me outside the house. The bedroom was in the front of the house. So I guess I could wake the dead even back then.

Yes, the "air" has to be the most embarrassing part of this whole thing.

The fact that it's a CPAP, and the general thought of them is about fat people is the biggest reason I am so panicked about them saying I have sleep apnea. The CPAP mask is a whole different panic. But, I'm not overweight, but now I feel like a fat slob that is having to be tourchered every day. It may be wrong but I feel disgusted to have been told I have apnea. And I can't make that better. I've never been depressed but I feel depressed now, just because of a diagnosis.

Snapchic, you should fear the consequences of NOT using the cpap much more.
It is a minor fuss, only done for sleep, usually at night, when no one sees you.
If you have a bedmate, it can be used after intimacy, and both of you can giggle over your "bondage" outfit.

If you are feeling self pity for being prescribed CPAP (like I did 3 1/2 years ago), this may bring you around.

3 weeks ago, my husband suffered a major stroke. He is now in acute rehab and still can't move his leg at all. He can turn his head a little and can partially use his hand. I am hoping that he can regain some mobility before he eventually comes home because I can't take care of an invalid by myself. He can't even sit up alone, not to mention toilet himself.

In the ER I witnessed classic apnea events. I could see his SpO2 plummet as soon as he fell asleep, snoring that would stop when his breathing stopped, and snorting for air afterwards. Since I sleep in a different bed, I hadn't any idea of what was going on. We will fix the SA, but the stroke has done its damage.

My message to anyone who feels negative about being on CPAP is "consider the alternatives". We're lucky to have been diagnosed before something dreadful happened.

An old old thread but some basic issues touched on. I'm sorry to hear about your husband's stroke, M'ohms. Well said - this is a good cautionary tale for those who despise and fear CPAP... some stuff (like a stroke or heart attack) can be a LOT worse!

I think that boils down my issues. I would rather have a stroke than wear the CPAP. I cannot stand the thought of the things touching my face that much. I would rather gamble that I will die before having a stroke than be tortured every night. I don't see a way past my thinking. No part of CPAP equipment is okay for me. I just don't see how to get past it :/

After reading your other thread and now reading this post, I have to wonder........Why are you here?
Are you interested in making this therapy work or are you looking for people to agree with you that it's OK to not use it?
If it's the latter, you came to the wrong place. We TRY to help people with their therapy........PERIOD!!!

I am here to see if there are any other options. I obviously have issues with a CPAP, but I'm looking for options. I am simply here for help. I do not know where else to go. I have never been on any kind of forum or anything in my life. The most I've ever done is read reviews before buying things on Amazon. I Googled for hours before I posted because I cannot find any answers to my anxiety. I cannot find where else to go

if you want alternatives to cpap, you'll find more options over on apneaboard.com.
