Good idea on the new controller...and you're right..you can never have enough ports!

Thanks again biggziff.
I did as you suggested, and XP did all the "Found New Hardware" stuff for my controller, keyboard and mouse. But when I plug in the DT3500 there is no FNH notice. I suppose my next attempt will just be randomly changing USB ports around for the devices attached and rebooting endlessly...faint hope.
I loaded everything up on my XP computer at work and had no problems at all, so I know the reader is OK. I still suspect some sorta USB conflict. When I plug the reader in the mouse is very unresponsive. Just have no idea how to resolve it.
Maybe the dual core chip is a problem ?

How about trying a PS2 mouse and KB ??

USB is supposed to share it's resources really well..but...well..it *is* a computer after all!!

You did say that there are no BIOS updates, right?? No Mobo system updates??

Mako DT3500 problems

Post by dhornvictim » Mon Oct 24, 2005 9:57 pm

I had the exact same problem, and I installed and uninstalled 50 times and in safe mode, etc. Then here is what I did that worked for me...

1) had the mako reader attached to USB

2) uninstalled mako drivers in add/remove programs in control panel
(have to do this first because uninstaller won't run if encore isn't installed)

3) uninstalled Encore Pro software in add/remove programs.

4) went into hardware/device manager and made sure the smartcard reader was uninstalled.

5) unplugged the reader from USB

6) Reboot XP

7) Installed Encore Pro from the original CD

When I Installed Mako drivers (FROM THE DIRECTORY "smartcard" on the Encore pro CD - do not use drivers that came from mako), BE SURE TO PICK DRIVERS FOR BOTH PCMCIA and USB!

9) Plug mako reader into USB port

10) enter encore pro and select preferences - Make sure USB is selected.

11) click on smartcard utilities and pick preview.

12) a blank preview screen should pop up.

Note: If this doesn't work, the last thing I would try if I were you, is to uninstall the drivers for all your USB devices and then ports in device manager, reboot, so the USB ports, hub, and devices are all reinstalled.

GOOD LUCK!
