Card Reader and Services.msc
Re: Card Reader and Services.msc
Try a Stop/Start of SCardSvr from cmd prompt as adminstrator, in this order:
net stop SCardSvr
net start SCardSvr
Muffy
net stop SCardSvr
net start SCardSvr

Re: Card Reader and Services.msc
okay Muffy. I tried going through command prompt but it is denying me access. I dont understand that because it is my laptop and I should be the administrator. How do I change that?
BTW...
Type cmd in the Vista Start Run box and use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + Shift + Enter instead of just pressing Enter. This will open the Command Prompt in Administrator mode. There's a right click something or other too...
BTW, are these set correctly?
MSSQLSERVER$ENCOREPRO and SQLServerAgent$ENCOREPRO set to use the Local System account and NetLogon Service for "manual" start.
And Smart Card to Local Service?
Muffy

Re: Card Reader and Services.msc
Okay, did that and it now says, "The service process could not connect to the service controller".
Re: Card Reader and Services.msc
There is no SCardSvr.exe file in Win32. I believe there should be. Everything seems to be running from that executable file as far as "automatic or manual" goes. It has got to be in there somewhere.
I am wondering if perhaps it might be an SQL issue, kind of like the problems encountered with a 64-bit system.

Re: Card Reader and Services.msc
In XP that file is actually in System32. In "Smart Card Properties" "General" what does "Path to Executable" say? Or just search the c:.
MSSQLSERVER$ENCOREPRO and SQLServerAgent$ENCOREPRO set to Local System
NetLogon Service for "manual" start.
Smart Card to Local Service (specifically NT Authority)
Any pertinent information in "Event Viewer" (still making the assumption that Vista has similarity to XP in these functions).

We're not "messing", we're "looking". "Messing" comes later.Bearcat42 wrote:I havent messed with SQL.

Hi,
I have Encore Pro V1.8 and a Mako DT3500 card reader running without issue under Windows Visa 32 bit. The only start up issue was with the card reader and Forum member 5aces resolved that one for me see this post:

Yes, it is in Automatic, but it does not want to start. I cant find any information here about how to resolve thae problem of the Smart Card resource manager not starting.
Re: Card Reader and Services.msc
OK, try this. Put this command into the cmd line you had before. This should find the file:
sc qc scardsvr
My thought is that scardsvr or registry entries related to the driver install are awry, perhaps due some persistent incompatible driver issues. Looking at event viewer might isolate this, or maybe comparing your scardsvr registry with somebody's who's working OK could discover the cause.
Or, safer idea, can you do a Registry Restore to some point prior to SmartCard installation, then see if scardsvr will work? Or get rid of the Mako driver? You don't need a Smart Card Reader to start the scardsvr.
If that fails, perhaps the next step should be reinstall scardsvr.

Re: Card Reader and Services.msc
okay muffy, this is what I got:
Type-10 Win32_Own_Process
Start Type- 2 Auto_Start
Error Control-0 Ignore
Binary Path Name- c:\Windows\Win32\SCardSvr.exe NOTE: I cannot find this file under win32.
Load Order Group- Smart Card Services
Tag-0
Dependancies- +Smart Card Reader
Service Start Name- Local System
I tried to uninstall the Mako driver, turn off my internet so it couldnt automatically search for it online, then load the original driver, but with no luck. It still shows the Mako driver.
I thought about a system restore.

Re: Card Reader and Services.msc
Maybe you can't see scardsvr because you don't have the Files Viewer set to "View Hidden Files". If it's gone, tho, that's gonna be a problem.

OK, forget the hidden thing, it's not a hidden file, at least in XP.
