Card Reader and Services.msc

Post by Bearcat42 » Thu Apr 23, 2009 10:57 pm

I think I am getting closer, maybe.....
I am now in "smart card resource manager" under services.msc and the service for the SC was already in Automatic but it is showing "stopped".
Every time I try to "start" it I get an error 1068:"The dependancy group or family failed to start". According to the information for this service the card reader will not work unless the service is "started". So the question is whether or not there is a workaround for this problem.
There is a ton of information in prior threads regarding services.msc and switching to automatic but I cannot find anything on this error code. Someone please help!!!!! Thanks...

Are you trying to get your detailed summary off the card? what program are you using to do the download?

He's using Encore Pro 1.8, with a DT-3500 card reader USB, running Vista Home 32 bit. Jim

go to http://www.encoreanywhere.com install the card reader software that's on the home page on the left, they way you describe it makes it sound like the card isnt assigned to anyone and you have to create an file with in the program for that card to upload to. and it just stores it in there. but i guess thats the step your trying to get around,

For XP, Anyway...

Is MSSQLSERVER$ENCOREPRO and SQLServerAgent$ENCOREPRO set to use the Local System account and NetLogon Service for "manual" start?

I havent done anything with the SQL Server, yet. I was under the assumption that you dont mess with that unless you are running a 64 bit OS.

I have been using Vista Home Prem with Encore Pro without any problems. But I don't have the "smart card resource manager" under services.msc either. What is the server set to?

I am wondering if you have or had another application that used or uses an SQL database?

Have you tried this new USB reader on your XP machine?

Jules,
I have a home computer with XP and I tried to load Encore Pro on it but I get an error that it cant open from failsafe. Now, my drive bay isnt operating right now so I tried loading EP from a thumbdrive. I dont know if you can do that or not but I would much rather have had loaded it with the disk. I cant seem to win for losing.

Yo Den!

Did you get BearCat42's driver straightened out?

I didn't. I have absolutely NO experience with Vista (and don't want any), so I haven't been a whole lot of help. I finally suggested he seek some help from some of the board members that are running Vista with EP installed. I know the Vista drivers are on the 1.8 CD in the "Smart Card Readers" directory, but when it comes to the "Control Panel" settings (if that's where the problem is), it's my understanding that there are significant differences between XP and Vista.
I can't seem to "visualize" what his problem is and I ran out of suggestions.

OK, cause no matter how much I screwed up the related services, I couldn't generate a 1068 Error, but I've got XP too, as well as the correct (functional) driver. I saw where Vista had issues loading PnP devices, but one should still be able to simply manually change the driver as you had detailed in past threads.

Hey BearCat, can you look at the Smart Card and see what driver is in there now?
GumbyCT wrote:But I don't have the "smart card resource manager" under services.msc either.
SCRM is simply called "Smart Card" and refers to SCardSrv in system32. That's gone in Vista?

I did a Google search on "error 1068" and found lots of links......most of them appear to be to things like print spoolers and other services. There was a link at the bottom of the page that narrowed the search to Vista and this is that link.

Hopefully there's something in there that will help.

Yes, I have been having trouble finding the SCardSvr file anywhere. The driver is the Mako 2.0.0.7
I think if I could get the smart card service to "start" then it might actually work. There has got to be a way.
