Has anybody tried this lately?

I didn't have an initial SQL instance to delete, so I just installed the 2005 version in the original post.

Finished the install according to the steps in this thread. EP starts up and says "Unable to connect to the specified database."

I noticed a comment about a database name during the EP install, so I created a second DB called "ENCOREPROEX". I also have one called SQLEXPRESS.

EP can't connect to either one.

Any thoughts?

I was unable to get it to install on my machine. My machine is fairly new as I just built it this past spring. I tried installing it and following what everyone had say and had no luck. Someone else had posted something a little different and that didn't work. I figured since I don't store data on this machine that I would just reinstall the OS starting fresh then try the different directions for installing EP. No go, I finally upgraded to WIndowns 7 ultimate and installed windows virtual machine and xp virtual and then installed EP and got it running. Had a couple minor hiccups with the card reader but nothing big and it runs fine now.

You don´t have to use virtual machine at all. Encore works fine under Windows 7 64bit.

Hi,

I've had Encore Pro running on Windows Vista 64 bit for the better part of a year now.

For those who are having difficulty, please note that you have to follow Gregor's directions exactly, re-read his posts in this thread. If thing go wrong (and it's fairly easy for things to go wrong--like oops I skipped a step) then you have to completely uninstall everything (again follow Gregor's advice and start again). I know that I had to try it a few times before I got it to run correctly.

The thing that helped me get my computer up and running Encore Pro under Vista 64bit was to copy everything off of the original EP install cd and into a directory on my computer (plus remember to download and rename the files as instructed by Gregor and put them into that same directory (which overwrites some files)) then do the install EP from that new directory. I actually copied everything to the hard drive, downloaded and renamed the files and then saved a copy back to a CD (that way I didn't have to recreate everything if something went wrong.)

After I got the program up and running I ran into the issue with getting the Mako Card Reader to work (more then once) and I found that the 5aces post (sited earlier in the thread) resolved the issue.

So, be patient, it took me about four tries to get it right. Carefully re-read all of Gregor's posts in this thread.

With any luck, Gregor will make a Wiki entry on this. He really seems to know what he is doing. I would never have gotten it running without his help.

Thanks Gregor.

DING

The light just came on. builta managed to reword the process just enough to finally make it sink into my head.

I'll give this a try when I get home.

I'm a Technical Writer by day, so I don't mind writing the Wiki entry once I get this working.

Thanks!!!!

Gregor, using your instructions (with one modification so I could do a "Typical Installation"), I just installed EncorePro 1.8 (program + database) on my new Vista 64-bit PC (an early Christmas present). I also used your device driver link and installed the Vista 64-bit driver for my Mako card reader. EP, the card reader, plus the MyCPAP card utility are all working great. I need to look at the EncorePro Analyzer as I had a Login problem.

Without your "workaround" for getting EncorePro to run under Vista 64-bit, I would be stuck with keeping a Windows XP PC around just to run EncorePro. Thanks for sharing - you made my Day!

Gregor rocks!!!!

I did the install per his instructions using Encore Pro, the Mako DT 3500 card reader (and appropriate driver) and it works fine on my Windows Vista 64 bit computer.

Thanks Gregor.

If you have SQL previously installed, remove it.Reboot PC to ensure is gone.

copy all directories and files from CD to disk drive.
go to directory called /files/SQL 2005
delete SQLEXPR32.exe

go to : http://www.microsoft.com/DOWNLOADS/deta ... laylang=en scroll down and download file SQLEXPR.EXE with size 55.4 MB (both version in this file 32 and 64 bits.
Copy downloaded file into /files/SQL 2005 and change name to SQLEXPR32.exe

Run installation.

Choose under installation advanced.
You have tick two boxes, database and program.

You are redy to go.
I tick both boxes and the program is still looking for a database name or location???

Gregor,

Welcome back! Haven't seen you post in a long time.

It's good to know that EP works fine under Windows 7 64 bit ... I'll be upgrading to Windows 7 64 bit in the near term.

Jan

Encore 1.8 may work in 64 bit vista/windows7 but can you figure a way to use Encore Pro 2 without a virtual machine?

I actually think Gregor is working on that. I know he likes the challenge of figuring out how to get programs to play nice with 64 bit. Havnt heard from him in a little while though. Wonder how its coming along...

I have been able to get Encore Pro 1.8.49 to run under both Windows 7 Ultimate 64, and Windows Starter. No virtual XP machine is needed ...

The real trick is to get Encore Pro 2.2 working on a 64 bit OS. seems to be impossible for now...

Hi blakepro,

Believe me ... I am the furthest you can get from being computer savvy ... but ...

I believe that v1.8.69 was written for 64 bit ... why wouldn't v2.2 also be 64 bit capable?

By the way, congrats on scoring a copy of 2.2!

Jan
