....socialism, here we come
Ok pam...be a good socialist and give me one of your cows.
Political Philosophies are explained using two cows
Socialism: You have two cows. You keep one, but must
give the other to your neighbour.
Communism: You have two cows. The government takes
both and provides you with milk.
Fascism: You have two cows. The government takes
both and sells you the milk.
Bureaucracy: You have two cows. The government
takes them, shoots one, milks the other, pays you
for the milk, and then pours it down the drain.
Dictatorship: You have two cows. The government
takes both, then shoots you.
Capitalism: You have two cows. You sell one and buy
a bull.
Democracy: You have two cows. The government taxes
you to the point that you must sell them both to
support a man in a foreign country who has only one
cow, which was a gift from your own government.
Corporation: You have two cows. You lay one off,
force the other to produce the milk of four cows, then
act surprised when it drops dead.
California: You have two cows. The state tells you how
to milk your cows, when to milk your cows, how much to
milk your cows and the most that you can charge for the
milk. You go broke and sell the cows. The state calls you
greedy and blames you for the current milk shortage.

We'd be much better off saving for everything (except the house). But then, we'd have to get over the "me want it NOW" syndrome in order to do that.

What clean water; what clean air? Social Security should be privatized anyway. Public education is a joke. National Defense is already going downhill. Don't get me started on welfare!!

Actually, sorry, I can't. I had 3 cows, but the government already made me give 1-1/2 cows to my neighbor so we'd be even.

Go to a third world country or even china and check out the water and air purity...or visit some strip mining areas of the country prior to the government controlling toxic waste. Public education may be a joke now to you but cut all government funds to education and see how what happens. National defense....that's what happens when you start a war for no good reason. Medicare....you want a revolt on your hands...take away the seniors health care.

I've been wondering when all of those countries we sent "foreign aid" to over the decades are going to send some back.....now that we need it.
They could probably set up some military bases here or rent some of ours.....after all, we have some scattered around the world in other countries. That way they could keep US safe from our enemies for a change and we wouldn't have to spend so much for OUR military.
Fair is fair.....right?

Oh, Track! Did I mention those crimson king maples the township planted directly under the power lines at the township cemetery that the power company "tops off" every few years??? Yeah, well, my red oak goes so do those crimson king maples.

Here you go Rooster. Twenty five people to blame for the current financial crisis...there are more but this is a nice list to start with. Notice who ranks as the top vote getter...none other than the consumer. Mr Government doesn't appear on the list...there are some that work or have worked in government on the list...but no "government".

click at the top and you can read what role each of the 25 played in creating the mess.

What a silly article and poll. I hope you don't consider Time magazine serious reading.
What would I expect from Time magazine? I am well aware of the politicals leanings of their staff- both the 96% Democrat and 4% Republican. There is not a one of them that has any regard for our Constitution (except one part of the first amendment of course).
No doubt that individual citizens (let's not label and dehumanize them by calling them consumers) often make poor decisions. I don't touch that because I believe it is their right to make decisions for themselves - good or bad. I like to help by example and, when asked, with counsel and education but ultimately they should make their own decisions. Unfortunately governments, including ours, often don't take this position. Governments often make decisions for individuals and that is the rub.
BTW, I find something very strange in this post of yours:

Do you think I "accused" you of being a "liberal". If you check my posts you will see this word was not used. Do you have some type of guilt that causes a knee-jerk reaction?
I use the word "liberal" very sparingly and on the rare occasion I do use it, it is a compliment. Unfortunately there is a large group of people referring to themselves as "liberals" but acting nothing like liberal - they want to use government force to implement their personal agenda.
Start reading some things besides Time magazine.
Governments are responsible for the slaughter of 300 million humans in the last century. Governments are responsible for the current recession.

Get rid of that left-leaning, touchy-feely, collective guilt
Words like "touch-feely" and "collective guilt" are catch phrases used by many to refer to liberals particularly the Rush Limbaugh types and left leaning and liberal are usually synonmous with most people. Perhaps you are different.
Do you think I "accused" you of being a "liberal". If you check my posts you will see this word was not used. Do you have some type of guilt that causes a knee-jerk reaction?
I already addressed the liberal part. No need to make it personal by questioning whether or not I have "some type of guilt that causes a knee jerk reaction."
I try to keep it friendly. You attack Time..which is ok by me... and then question my choice of reading material as if Time is the only thing I read.
Start reading some things besides Time magazine.
I think it's time to end my participation in this thread. It's obviously gone beyond discussing just the subject when you start attacking the messenger....as often happen in political threads as I stated early on. Have a nice day.

Heads they win ... tails we lose.

President-pretender, J. Biden, said "the DNC has built the largest voter fraud organization in US history". Too bad they didn’t build the smartest voter fraud organization and got caught.

Track, You are a good guy. Sorry I offended. You and I should probably confine our discussions to "Brethren of CPAP with Backpack" topics.

No problems Rooster my friend...we are cool as far as I am concerned. That was nothing to what I experience in the futility folder on the golf forum...but then I can't stand many of those aholes the way they carry on so I don't say much anymore there. I just want to make sure we keep it civil as I need your cpap expertise. This is life and death stuff..golf is for grins.

How many people who complain about government here are suckling the teet of government by taking "early retirement" aka disability due to their "condition".
How long can we keep things going when so many people today want to sit at home and collect a check off the backs of all the people that continue to work and deal with their "condition".
People like the lady that just had the 8 babies come to mind. More babies = more money.
Disability was meant for the truley DISABLED person not for everyone that makes enough trips to the Dr. for their poor bad back or feet or stress or whatever.
This is the type of thinking that is killing this country.
If you are collecting than you are a socialist.

I am not "collecting", but I will challenge this statement. Social Security Disability is a government insurance program. You pay
premiums for years and if you become truly totally disabled you can receive
benefits. Having insurance and receiving benefits does not make you a socialist.
The problem with SS Disability (and SS and Medicare) is that it is a gigantic Ponzi scheme run by our government. Eventually it will crash "Madoff style". Madoff will look like a flea beside this elephant.
How about Supplemental Security Income? My buddy was just bitterly complaining about this. One of his employees is a recent immigrant. She brought her elderly mother with her. She asked for a few hours off to take her mother to the SS office to sign up for a benefit check. People who have never worked one minute in our country can get retirement benefits under SSI.
