So I want to thank all the self righteous people who were there and attacked me as soon as I showed up. You really showed me how much better you are than me. Thanks for showing your true colors while hiding behind fake names, guess you aren't so different than me after all...
Oh, that's so sad and humilitating, I am sorry to hear about your experience, I have often thought about entering the caht room off and on since I joined this forum but changed my mind and i'm glad I did, they should of just told you to please change your avatar! It dosen't really sound like Jules was the one that started the trouble, it was JOE & ROCKY but I do feel sorry for you and I wish people could just be friendly and most all the people on this forum are just that so just "shine JOE & ROCKY on"! Who are they anyway, i've never heard of them!!!

There have been a few people hurt my feelings and attack me in the past, as a matter of fact, I felt like leaving the forum but I hung in there and shined it on and i'm soooo glad I did or I would have stopped using my machine as I didn't know squat about apnea or therapy!!! There are always going to be a few bad apples but the rest of them make this place "shine"!!!

Take it easy and hang in there!

From my point of view the chat room has a big flaw. It allows anybody to login with whichever identity they choose and several people use that "feature" to fake identities and say whatever they want... you know how that works... the identity of the cowards!!.

The owners of this forum had a great idea giving to the users that tool, but they should improve it to:
- Limit is usage only to registered forum users after they establish a history and solid identity (#'s post maybe) in the forum.
- Not allow to any user to use other identity than the one in the forum, in this way the bullies and stupid people can be easily identified.

just my 0.2 cents... your mileage can be different.

Browser, sorry you had such a time of it. I've only been in the chat room once, and actually had a pretty good time, just have not had a chance to go back since. I've been on the 'net long enough, and was on bulletin boards before then (anyone remember FidoNet?), so I truly understand the "flame wars". I just don't let 'em get to me anymore, figuring they need a rolaid or something. Give it another shot sometime, heck some of us truly "strange" folks might be there and be able to give you a laught or two.

The people in chat are generally some of the same as here on the board. Same cross section of personalities. There's only so much that can be said about cpap, so it's often small talk until someone comes in with a need to discuss things cpap. What happens in there from time to time is the person with a new diagnosis looking for help, which they generally find from the old regulars and the newly regular.

Can't say what happened last night. I stopped thru there for a bit but decided to leave when it was apparent I had walked into some strange stuff going on. There were multiple nonfamiliar names with a tone not often present in this chat - almost like baiting. Since I missed what kicked everything off, I just figured the conversation wasn't for me.

As when on this message board, it's a shame when things deteriorate and highlight the worst in our interactions when there is so much good to spotlight. I for one was helped tremendously by those who regularly frequented the chat room in back in 2006. Sure hope everyone can get past their differences and remember why we are even here.

I can't believe that people are being "ignored" and attacked on a CPAPtalk message board! That's insane! Of course, I've only visited about 10 times. I am definitely not a long timer. Maybe that's a good thing. Shocked that that kind of thing occurs...

Oh well, must be the elementary school teacher in me taking over! Cliques are NOT allowed in my classroom! I'll let the upper grade teachers deal with that crap!

2nd I happen to know it didn't just happen - "So I drop into chat last night and was attacked" quite this way. In fact, you came in on the offensive and were asked to stop. If you didn't know - why did you direct it to Jules?

I think you used 3 or 4 different chat names last nite alone and countless different names posting here on this forum, each ending in the same discourse. I was also in chat the night you came in masquerading as Snoredog when you were badgering him in your postings. Anyone starting to see a pattern?

I wonder what makes people continuously agitate everyone they come in contact with, even people they have never met. I do know to properly diagnose this behavior is beyond the scope of any training I have. I also know that in order to seek treatment, one must first acknowledge there is a problem.

Do you have any idea what you are talking about? I came in and said Hi Jules(swirling emoticon)... That was it. Then the rest is exactly what I said. Little do you know that I admired Snoredog more than anyone else on this board and didn't Badger him as you say. I don't even think your name was listed last night. I am far from a perfect or innocent person on this forum as I have posted a couple of offensive posts directed towards a couple of people but you self righteous types never fail to amaze me. Don't make up stuff here. It was what it was.

Let me put this out there once again, I posted an insulting post aimed at stillanotherguest and in the past I didn't care for Jules holier than thou tone and said as much and she and her clique of friends along with SAGs little clique of friends just don't want to let it go. Let me make it clear here so all can know that I was originally MTH712 then after I made an ass out of myself insulting the beloved stillanotherguest I changed my name to blowfish then when that didn't work I left for a while and came back as Browser for which Jules quickly figured out and PM'd all her little imaginary web buddies to rat on me. I am not going to change again. I don't really care for stillanotherguest because he comes across as an elitist jerk and I don't care for Jules because she is a hateful phoney self righteous person. I don't really have an issue with anyone else. So now you know. If you are a cheerleader for these two people fine but do it in another thread.

BUT - I went into chat not looking for any trouble but just to see what was being discussed. I said Hi to Jules because I recognized the name and that was the only name I recognized and I was just trying to be friendly even though I don't really care for her.

I don't really believe that tiny little swirly emoticon could hurt anyone and if it did I am sorry.
Edit: After reading that post referred to by Gumby I now know that those little things can bother some people-who knew-I didn't... I am changing my latest forum avatar to one that moves a little slower...

BTW I do remember seeing Mikosiko and Mike G. as well as I think Jeepers and JOE and Rocky the person that responded to me saying Hi Jules was a tnmm or something like that. I didn't know what they were talking about and I only posted the swirly the one time. Can Mikosiko or anyone back me up on this? I also left real quick, maybe 5 minutes. There was 8 people in there and I named 7 above and GumbyCT wasn't one of them.

gumby was there not as gumby and I was there as jules and no one else even though later on I was accused of being 4 people there.

As I have said in the past on madipy's thread, if someone puts on a "smiley" or avatar in chat, or pms me in a font color that I can't handle, I walk away and don't always say why. I have a few seconds to get that image out of my mind before I get one - it isn't instantaneous but it is fast enough. If the person had pmed me and it still around when I return then I put them on ignore.

I had bumped madipy's thread after another incident in chat just over a week ago. She did stop chatting here, but we do have people who are that sensitive around besides me. They may not be aware that there is a movement to keep chat safe for all by many of us.

On Monday nights when we had had Newbie chat (and a few other times) I clear the screen with posts of numbers usually to get that offensive material off the screen. I explain why then.

Last night (as it is still before midnight Sunday night where I am), I see that icon, I walk away from the chat but don't close it out. Did you see me say anything for a long time? I don't think so.

Eventually I pmed the person that had mentioned such icons can provoke grand mal seizures , reminding him that I only get headaches and he said he recalled that.

However, if your greeting was really a friendly one, the room participants over reacted. Now who was really attacked as you say you were? They felt I was first as they know that will make me (and others) sick.

However, I wasn't around to see it but read it later. I do recall you mentioning who had you on ignore and my name was not included; my experience and recollection is that ignore will block pms not main chat. This is different than what JOE had said so rudely in all caps.

Chat is to be a positive experience where newbies and even more experienced xpapers can come in, get support by experienced xpapers as well as other newbies, and get help with mask and other problems. We can't answer everyone's questions always, but we can find posts on the forum many times for ideas. We get people in chat sometimes who want our permission to quit using xpap and we don't give it to them.

Some people just use the chat as a social network too. We accept all whether the person is a registered member of the forum or not. We try to take people for what they are as we see all kinds of people and problems. We can't tell a person what mask to use but we can give them ideas on what to ask their doctor, or what machines to consider. We have had problems a few self-righteous techs at times dominating the room and running people out who really could have used the support.

Someone last night in chat after Browser left decided to troll me first as Julesheadchatbitch then later as lookingbotv1.0 or something close to that. Some found it amusing. I can only assume, as Gumby did, that it was Browser returning to do it. The second of these came "fishing" according to them and after I left I heard that they had caught the fish. In other words they probably had come to run me out; sorry but I was crashing out (flash movie error) so left, and didn't return for a while. kteague mentioned coming in and leaving; she wasn't the only one.

There were other names used last night in chat. Snore Pup was one and it didn't appear to be snoredog's daughter.

Do you know that I was diagnosed with OSA with an AHI of 71 in Aug 2001 but was not given CPAP until Nov 2005 after I complained about fatigue, had heart problems returning, and had my O2 levels at night checked again. My doc back in 2001 was a prof at a medical school (not a resident but the full fledged prof) and he screwed it up on this and a few other things. Yes I am chemically sensitive and I could not have gone on cpap immediately as everything needed to be "outgassed" but it was never pursued and it only took about a month to outgas a mask and hose and less for the machine before I could use it. I self titrated with help from my sleep doc on procedure and going over the results from the Encore reports with him.

CPAP has made a big difference in my life. However I got 4 extra years of damage out there that shouldn't have been there (and yes there was damage). You feel I have a holier than thou attitude Browser. I believe in the benefits of cpap and will preach that and if you don't like it, well ---------- you know where you can put it.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Browser, you need help, but it isn't just with cpap. Many of us have more complicated medical problems than just "garden variety OSA". This forum isn't equipped for that. You can find others that share other symptoms or diagnoses but they might not be able to help out except for peer support; they can't replace medical help.

People here can help with the plain ordinary OSA issues by the looking over the encore reports, looking over the sleep study reports, but their expertise is limited and none of them will know your other medical issues as well as your own doctor.

If I recall you have a sleep doctor appointment coming up in the next week or so. Good luck on that and take a long list of concerns to them and ask them for referrals to other specialists that might be helpful.

What I gleaned after the fact was that your avatar or whatever you call it, was a "spinner" or a red color that severely bothers some of our members, causing seizures in one member and severe headaches in another. That SHOULD have been POLITELY explained to you if it wasn't so that you could GRACIOUSLY eliminate the offending avatar or color and all should have then gone smoothly.
The avatar is standard with the chat room software. When I was chewed out for using it I mentioned here that perhaps the spinning avatars should be disabled since it's such a problem. I was told by someone I thought was a moderator (I have no idea who it was anymore) that they'd heard offhand about this problem but it wasn't important enough to deal with. This was in the old Newbie Chat thread, which has since been deleted, so I don't know if there's any way you can even see the post I'm referring to anymore.

The first time I went to chat was during a Newbie Chat, where someone seemed pretty upset that I was there. I'd never even seen them before so I have NO idea what the problem was. I was jumped on immediately. This person first asked why I was there, then told me I had to have a question to ask or I should leave. I explained I was there for Newbie Chat, and this person told me there was no such thing as Newbie Chat. It all seemed like they were trying to get me to log off. Then finally this person chewed me out about the icon. I chose the yin yang spinning icon and was told to disable it immediately, which I did, but the problem wasn't just that it spun. I was also told the yin yang symbol was sexual and offensive. Then more newbies showed up for Newbie Chat and more "regulars" in the chat room started to complain, asking why so many people were there, and grousing about being "forced" to stay "on topic". At that point I just left.

Of course, this has nothing to do with Browser. I have no idea what happened when Browser was in chat, I wasn't there. Maybe he did start a fight, but what he says happened is similar to what I experienced, so I figured now was a good time to mention the issue I had as well.

Maybe someone should try to disable those icons. Seriously, it's a safety and health issue, why is it being ignored?

No thread gets deleted. Stacia comments, and the responses can be found here:

I put the following string (without the quote marks) "newbie chat on monday stac* " in the advanced search, and it found it easily.

Forum search is working very well since the software upgrade.

Hmmmm

Browser, do you see a pattern emerging here - similar to several other threads you started ?

What has this theme to do with cpap & how is it going to help other forum members with their
interest in and use of cpap & masks etc:

Have a deep think about who is getting what from the topics being posted. Think about how
useful what you are saying is to others.

This forum is generally a very welcoming and forgiving place - what are you doing to
help keep it that way ? - please take time to reflect on this idea. A new year starts in a couple of days.

Cheers
