So I drop into chat last night and was attacked

Post by MrSandman » Sun Dec 28, 2008 12:50 pm

I drop into chat last night to see what it is like and boy did I find out. I saw that Jules was in there and said Hi Jules and got no answer but instead was attacked by a JOE and ROCKY who told everyone to put me on ignore and how to do it.

So I want to thank all the self righteous people who were there and attacked me as soon as I showed up. You really showed me how much better you are than me. Thanks for showing your true colors while hiding behind fake names, guess you aren't so different than me after all...

Unfortunately, cliques are as much a fact of life here on the web as they are in real life. Simply ignore the losers and life will go on just fine without them.

Browser, I came in "after the fact", so I wasn't privvy to what occurred. I'm sorry that the situation was handled so badly. What I gleaned after the fact was that your avatar or whatever you call it, was a "spinner" or a red color that severely bothers some of our members, causing seizures in one member and severe headaches in another. That SHOULD have been POLITELY explained to you if it wasn't so that you could GRACIOUSLY eliminate the offending avatar or color and all should have then gone smoothly. Perhaps neither side handled the situation well or gracefully??? Perhaps "the other side" mistook you for someone else?

Like any place on the net, you have to have a thick skin -- Slinky may be absolutely correct -- there are some avatars and colors that cause issues for some people, but generally it's explained reasonably and you are asked nicely to change it for the comfort of others. (I've seen this done on numerous occasions on the chat -- and people generally comply without argument)

Don't let one experience color your opinion of a function. If it were me, I'd keep going back, participate and essentially ignore the negativity -- negative energy can be soooooooo draining -- I just refuse to acknowledge it.....for the most part (I will defend myself - but normally I consider the source, and don't waste my time!!!)

It could be an opinion you've expressed in a post - heaven knows, I don't expect everyone to agree with my opinions -- but one must always keep in mind that they are opinions and generally worth what you paid for them........If I'm attacked in a post (and it has happened), I read it and if it warrants a response I'll respond, but generally it's not, so I just shine it on, and move along....

Don't let a few sour your participation......

take care
cheers

Hi - I didn't have an avatar but I was looking for something cute to put next to when I wrote Hi Jules and I picked a swirling emoticon. I didn't know that was the issue-wow. I guess I screw up even when I try to be nice. I should have picked a smiley face. Who knew. I only said hi to Jules cause I knew the name. I would say the other side didn't take it well and was quick to attack without explanation. I don't plan to go back in there. I think the poster was right about cliques...

Edit to respond to goose - I figured it was due to some things I said in the recent past. I am not totally innocent but have been trying to change since I came back with a new name. I couldn't believe I typed one thing and was attacked especially by a "JOE". I guess if the tiny swirl emoticon bothers someone so bad maybe they are in a lot of danger and shouldn't be on the internet. As soon as I typed Hi Jules with the swirl someone said something to the effect of now I was asking for it or something-I didn't understand that comment. All because of a tiny swirl emoticon?

I didn't handle it at all since I was attacked and then "JOE" told everyone to block me and I would just go away. I signed in as Browser so perhaps "the other side" just doesn't care for me which is fine.

Emoticon, avatar, what do I know which is which and what is what? Don't sweat the small stuff. You can't be too thin-skinned and last long in a forum or chat room. And there can't be any flame wars if one ignores the "flamer" and refuses to become the "flamee". I don't know Joe or Rocky and couldn't speak for them if I did but I am sorry your introduction to Chat went so badly.

IT REALLY DOESN'T SURPRISE ME. JULES VIEWS ALL THE PEOPLE IN THE ROOM AS "TROLLS" A BELITTLING NAME USED BY HER AND GUMBY.
I THINK THEY FEEL AS THOUGH THEY SIT IN IVORY TOWERS LOOKING DOWN ON THE PEASANTS. SO LETS SEE ANOTHER GOOD CHAT ROOM GO BAD BY THE EGOS.

Ha....Yeah - like I say, consider the source (even if you don't know them) and just shine 'em on.....Life's too short to deal with those kinds of folks.....
But again, don't let that one incident chase you away......Put on your "thick skin", smile and wade back in.....

It could be that the swirly icon is what prompted the "attack" because whomever it was just assumed that everyone on the planet knows about the issues with some people.....Someone who is new to the chat can't be expected to know that and it should be nicely explained (I didn't and noted the explanation when I was in chat, but don't tend to use icons so I didn't offend prior to seeing the explanation)....I'm sure you would have refrained had you known the issue.....it's just common courtesy, but so is explaining....

I go to chat once in a blue moon, but that's not one of the things I do on a regular basis -- there are others that are there every night helping out -- I've also found that the chat is a more "social" arena so there isn't as much "help" being talked about.....but that's only been my own experience (I generally go for the social aspect anyway -- not the OSA info).....

Hang in there Browser.....

take care
cheers

Mike,

If it's any consolation, I've only been in the Chat Room once.....and that was sometime back in 2005. Just went in to look around and found out I didn't have anything to talk about.

Oh, well......

Don't let 'em get you down.

Do you really want to bring the drama into the forum. What goes on in chat should stay in chat. Deal with those people privately is my take. Let's keep the forum to useful info about cpap rather than personal chat squabbles.

Well, now you know not to use that particular emoticon or others like it. Its over, its done, fergeddit. Life's too short.

Jules and Gumby like to pick on me at times, but its all in good fun. They're good people.

Maybe the folks that hurt your feelings thought they were in the ccrap chat instead of the cpap chat, don't let them color your opnion red or any other color, the folks here are great! So come here for good advice should you need some.
Life is not about the amount of breaths you take;
It's about the moments that take your breath away.

Actually, I think it's good to hear about some of the things that happen in the Chat room. I've heard stories similar to this before and am disappointed to hear that it does happen.
