Did we really need another forum???

"Our approach was made out of consideration of a number of factors, and we found setting up this new board was a quick means of accomplishing some of the ASAA's goals. "
Outside of creating a resource for people to learn about sleep apnea, what other factors are there? Why doesn't ASAA link to Cpaptalk directly and or to TAS? If you or ASAA thinks they are good and or valuable resource? What factors could there be or maybe we don;t understand what ASAA's goals are by creating this forumn?

Need to preface this post with the comment - " It's Friday night and anyone reading my Friday posts in the past know how whimsical and really goofy I can be. So Please do not send out the hit men"
Hi ambitious politicians. do gooders, turf protectors, innocent bystanders, and especially Wader!
Wader, thank you very much for starting this thread! I personally appreciate it very much as it demonstrates the freedom we have as individuals to choose and express ourselves.
On your first post I checked out the link and found a pretty good site that was somewhat structured and could help Newbies find answers in a hurry. Overall it seemed kind of neat and would be a good welcome mat for someone looking for information on the Apnea subject. At first we were all frantically seeking answers, so - another source.
That is the concern I have -another source - as well as the the freedom to express myself in my own manner and not feel lost in the crowd.
Any site of this nature is only as good as it's participants. Yes, it's good to have technical definitions and some degree of explanation of them but this is textbook stuff we should have received from our diligent doctors and evil DME's.
The politicians in the crowd will be most anxious to attract knowledgeable posters to their site. Enough sites and the good guys are spread too thin and important information will be delayed or even missed altogether.
I am dismayed that SWS has chosen to withdraw, we need as many experts as we can get. Derek has been a godsend for his unique effort on the Encore interpretation in addition to his insightful observations in general. Rested Gal gives so much down to earth, common sense advice, she should indeed be awarded an honourary medical degree or at least a non-evil DME designation from Crisp. Any old timers still remember Liam? I dream about R&R duking it out with Wader to see who gets the last post in (was that a bad pun?).
These activa participants, and many others, especially those with nose on knowledge in the trenches or first timers with questions, make this forum alive and a joy to follow.
So what's in it for me and what do I do? (Follow my nose of course, yuck!) I am pretty much computer illiterate and am not an active internet surfer. A stay at home kind of guy. Don't have a lot of time to spend on multiple sites of the same topic so have no desire to check out the other greener pastures. I'm from a frozen wasteland and there are no pastures - all the mad cows died of starvation. (See it's Friday night).
And that again is part of my point. If my wife knew what I have been posting she would have throttled me. Nobody has given me a hard time here and I feel free to say what I want
So that's my point. Any forum is only as good as it's participants. Spread them too thin and we lose valuable input. In the long run this may be a restrictive narrow minded attitude. For now, I like to keep all of you where I can see you conveniently. I am just too damn lazy to go looking for you!
Thank you all!

R&R is giving Wader tips on purchasing furniture ....I'm currently doing battle with the EVIL or at least comfused DME and you are STILL waiting for the snow to clear so you can watch the grass grow.

This kinda reminds me of the fella that owns a car dealership, the only one within miles. Then someone opens up another one close by. He just can't understand it. He has the products, service and the knowledge. Why is there a need for another dealership. There can't be a demand as far as HE can see. Why is he so upset? Anyone got a clue?

Hey unclebob,
For a Canadian you're an alright guy! ....and that is given with the utmost respect for your excellent comments on this thread.
You and I occupy the same brain on this subject.
Yours is a very practical point of view on the topic. Everyone should keep in mind that regardless of who has the right to do what, in the end reality will win out, rights or not.

It reminds me more of the two brothers that instead of working together to take over the family grocery store they both opened their own stores. While they both fought to attract the same customers a Wal-mart moved in and put them both out of business.

Hi loonlvr,
My Edsel works just fine cause ol Joe who sold it to me knows how to service it right. Soon as that new guy trains his young whippersnappers - or he steals some of Joe's experts - I may do a cost benefit analyses, if I have the time and inclination.
Joe, that old devil, I know him well!

Alrighty then!!!!
Well said!
So, are we done now? Everyone who decided to jump into the the fracas has done so. There is no 'right' or 'wrong' way to think about this subject. It is a matter of opinion. It is painfully clear to all who have been watching this thread pop back up to the top of the board every 2 seconds, that the original post was met with rather uncharacteristically defensive replies.
What started it all?

Anyway, I'm going to bed. I pray to God when I get up tomorrow morning this topic is buried towards the bottom of the page. Then again, it will be interesting to see who the diehard, got-to-have-the-last-word, poster will be.

Boy, call me crazy, but that seems pretty innocuous to me. A question was posed as to the logic behind the decision. It seems perfectly reasonable to wonder why they didn't join forces to create a larger community to share the same information in one area, if just to avoid repetition. Why was that query greeted with such animosity? Am I missing something? Yet as a result of raising this question, suddenly we're talking communism? Kind of a big leap, wouldn't you say?Rather than cooperate by making an effort to help connect their offline support groups with our online support group, the ASAA has decided to create their own forum. Was this a good use of their resources as an organization supporting all apnea sufferers or and effort to protect their existing turf?

The comment keeps getting made, "why doesn't the ASAA just link to X" The assumption is made that there is no linking.
http://www.sleepapnea.org/resources/lin ... roups.html
The multiple forums and resources available have been linked and will continue to be linked. This is not an effort to dilute information, it is an effort to disseminate information! There is good info on *EACH* of those forums listed. And by not providing links is a disservice to those with sleep apnea, the very people the ASAA is trying to help.
And I agree, lets not keep rehashing this here, and do our part to help others that haven't been diagnosed, or need our help getting therapy to work.

Neversleeps,
Why are you so concerned about this thread continuing on? I think unclebobs recent comments on the topic are some of the best made so far. You must have missed the "Angry" thread a while back that went on for something like 700 posts!! (no, I did not start that one) This is a great discussion. I am enjoying reading everyone's thoughts and I hope to see many more.

"Rehashing?" that's what we do here! You had to know that this move was going to create some reaction on the other forums. Your cohort is even referring to herself as "Ms Controversy" on the cpaptalk CHAT. This thread will die down when nobody has anything further to say on the subject. That's the way all the threads work... it's the nature of these forums. The one's that aren't heavily moderated, that is.
