I need to say that cpaptalk and any of the boards are welcome, even encouraged, to include a link to the ASAA website which gives a database listing of their AWAKE groups. If you find some missing, contact the ASAA to let them know. This information has been available on their website for awhile. Hopefully cpaptalk will hang on to this for others to use.
AWAKE groups may not even be necessary. But any local support group of any type for sleep apnea is desirable. Some have been combined with other sorts of support groups with a similar interest. Anything is possible so long as there are people willing to help.

If you use the ASAA for nothing more than information, that's great. As volunteers, Mike and I have made it our goal to help provide information to as many individuals, groups, online services, anyone with a need to improve the lives of sleep apneacs. That's not easy, and we're no experts, and it is all volunteer. So feel free to use the information. That's what it's all about.
Sincerely,
Linda

Linda,
But outised of providing a database on their site what new infromation or new insight is ASF going to provide that the current forums don't?
Instead, you are ceating a new resource, starting from the ground up. You have or will volunteer a lot of time to re-invent the wheel just so ASAA can have thier own forumn with a databse search for AWAKE meetings? they could have just shared that info and or asked for it to be linked even.
I guess I don't get it. Why should I go there too? I am starting to spend to much time here and at TAS.

All good questions. And I can certainly relate to spending too much time on the internet. I've sure done that.Anonymous wrote:Linda,

I feel we should not be taking up cpaptalk's space with our chatter. Feel free to stop by and post the questions again. Don't know if we can answer them all, but we will try. I think cpaptalk is a great forum. Don't think I would have survived the past six months or so without them. So whatever is comfortable for you is great. You are getting help and support, and that's what's important.
Linda
I personally commend Linda and Mike for getting out and doing something for others out of the goodness of their hearts. I think the criticism they have received is despicable.
I think it's great to have variety and choice. Just as one mask will not work for everyone, people may prefer one forum over another. As RestedGal would say, "Your milage may vary".
Looking at the new forum I see a absents of advertising, and it seems to have no commercial sponsorship. That may appeal to some people. Especially if they have information to share on product pricing or selling or trading mask or equipment. There is no risk of offending the site sponsor or fellow members. This thread demonstrates my point exactly. Yes I posted as "guest".......I wonder why.
Muck, I'm with IWannaSleep, thanks for announcing the new forum to everyone on Cpaptalk, otherwise we might never have found out about it.

Just checked out the new forum. Just looks to me like a forum started so Linda and Mike can be in charge! I agree with Muck, the meeting info could have been linked to any site already in use instead of creating another one. I guess some people just have power trips. If you really wanted to help people with sleep apnea, why move to another forum that people are not even aware of? Especially one that maybe supported by doctors and dmes.

Not the same at all
The thread you make mention was for the sale of equipment, something the owner of this forum does -- did you post on that sites' forum about this site, oh wait, they don't have a forum.HoseNose wrote:I personally commend Linda and Mike for getting out and doing something for others out of the goodness of their hearts. What I don't care for is someone coming here, doing all the research, having the fine people respond and then purchasing equipment else where (not supporting the owner of this forum) because of some perception of a better value (not even lower prices), it takes money to run these type of non-vendor sponsored sites. Hell, chances are you'd select the best mask for you based on responses you'll find here. Do I know the owners here, nope. Have I purchased from them, yes. Have I purchase else where, yes.
Say we both owned pizzerias, don't you think it would be disrespectful for one to post a flyer in the window of the other a promotional snippet, buy a pizza from me, you don't like it, I give you 10% of the next one?
At the end of the day, I try to support the people that support me.
As for the other site, its informational and I would think it may even help the grass root type movement this site would benefit from.
Now if that site were to offer special pricing via the sponsorship, cpap my be in for some tough times.
At the end of the day, I'm glad I live in a free country able to make my own decisions and speak my mind.
I have no gripe with anyone....

I'm happy to let people here know about the new forum. In the end it will stand or fall on it's own... no reason to keep it a secret.
My point in the matter is that more could be accomplished by joining forces rather that starting anew. Simple as that.
