I had my appointment with the respiratory therapist from my DME. I think I did quite well. I have read most of the posts on this board and was ready with questions and had my mind set on what machines I DIDN'T want. (I wasn't quite sure which one I didn want though. )I knew that I didn't want the Remstar Lite S7 and guess what????? That's what she had brought for me. I showed her the print out from cpap.com of the Remstar Plus c-flex with heated humidifier. She was astounded that I knew about this machine. I told her about this forum and about how much I had learned from all of you folks. She was quite impressed. She explained to me that they always start with the S7 because it is the least expensive and works pretty well. She did say that she can get me the one that I requested. She called her office & had them put one aside for me. I will get it on Monday. She contracts to several dme's so she doesn't try to push one over another. She spent over an hour with me just answering my questions and helping me find a mask that was comfortable.
I'm not sure if I made the right decision on the mask. I ended up with the Mirage Swift Nasal Pillows system. It felt the most comfortable of any that I tried on. She said she doesn't usually suggest that one for a first time cpap user, but if I felt comfortable with it I would probably be able to keep it on better. She said that I can exchange a mask 3 times without an additional charge, so if this doesn't work I'll try another. The other 4 or 5 that we tried on either pinched my cheeks or hurt the bridge of my nose
Did I make the right decision on the machine? She said that they automatically order a heated humidifier because almost everyone that has a humidifier ends up needed the heater. Thanks Everyone,
Kathy
